To be honest, I find Laurent Bouzereau's recent "documentaries" to be mostly useless fluff.

He had so much promise early on, with the Hitchcock discs, &c. Now, like on "Minority Report" - just promotional-type fluff.

I mean, I've already *bought* the movie on DVD, guys. You don't need to sell me on it.

Being John Malkovich

The "bonus" material wasn't bad, per se, but very odd. Probably the strangest "SE" I own, though it fits with the film. Still would've liked a little more creative insight, however.

I like HELLRAISER 3: Special Edition that is out there in some crappy form. Its an SE with the special feature: FULL SCREEN only!
This past Sunday, I saw this at a local record store in the used bin and I thought to myself WTF? I almost bought it until I saw that.

Office Space is my personal pick.

The two whopping features are theatrical trailers and the widescreen format.

Mulholland Drive not having scene selection also drove me nuts.

I bet studios might make more money just making a "Special Edition Bare-bones" release for every disc. I'm sure you'd fake out more than one person.

What about the featurette on "Seabiscuit" that really is just a Buick commercial disguised as a featurette?

I hate when they have "reccomended picks" as a special feature. An advertisement is NEVER a bonus. Also, any type of "game" they include is always awful (see The Grinch).

American Pie 2 had some of the worst special features, where you could watch only the parts of the movie where a song was playing (WTF?) and the Finch-only commentary track (really, were 4 separate commentaries needed for that movie?)

Along those lines, the special features on the 2nd disc of the American Pie: Ultimate Edition are just a subset of the ones on the 1st disc. WTF?

Not neccessarily bad, but hard to use, are the special features for Memento . . .

I agree the buick commercial is pretty bad on Seabiscuit, perhaps a new low. The commentary's on Family Guy are pretty bad, too, IMHO.

I liked most of them. McFarlane added lots of great info, especially about stuff the censors made them cut. (like the Diamond commercial).
The rest of the gang was pretty wild. Much like a Kevin Smith commentary.
The only bad part was the guy that does the babies voice. Its funny to hear him swear like a sailor, while doing the babies voice for the first commentary, but not for all of them.

Anyway, more useless stuff:
Bibliographies-
WHo really reads them? It seems like an obvious attempt to fill space.

Do you mean biographies? Filmographies? Because most actors and directors don't write many books.

In any case, the "special features" on the Being John Malkovich disc were parodies of dvd special features.

Its not on DVD, but my favorite is on the Criterion Collection CAV Laserdisc of the unrated Robocop.

The set was originally planned as a 3-disc set, packed with extras. Trouble seemed to go on with the Studio, and the set was cut back to 2 discs, with not a huge amount of extras.

With the extra space, we were treated to "Robocop in 5 minutes" - the screen filled with about 12 small screens, each playing a chunk of the film in fast forward. Together these small clips played the whole film. What was it for? God only knows.
hahaha

Glengarry Glen Ross.

Love the movie but the extras are horrible. Did we NEED a DTS track??? lol. This movie is almost completely mono. I'm not necessarily complaining about the DTS...it's the other extras that are horrible. Edited short commentaries when a full length for Lemmon and the director exist. A completely UNfunny easter egg that is like a bad SNL skit. A Tribute to Jack Lemmon that deserves its own DVD, not just the one that happens to come out close to his death. And barely any interviews or anything from the original cast. Such a waste of an extra disc. It should have just been one disc and been done with it. Just leave it barebones. The extras belong in the $4.99 bin at K-mart. Yuck.

The Jeep commercial in the Band of Brothers set. It was quiet & understated and completed shameless, all at the same time. Ugh...

The guy that does the baby's voice is in fact Seth MacFarlane. Personally I thought the commentaries would've been better had Fox not edited the commentaries. If you recall, Seth and the gang had commentaries done for all 50 episodes, yet there's only commentary on 14 episodes.

I hated the extras on the Matrix Reloaded DVD, it was like watching a bunch of product promos.

Every "Extra" except for the modern interviews on both Cheers Season sets (1&2).

All it is is compiliations of lines from that season! Okay, I just saw all these scenes in the shows. Why are they replayed here in snippets?

Completely pointless estras, but still a great show.

That's one of my all-time favorite special features. Yeah, it's useless, but it's a perfect special feature for this movie.

You're hardcore, buddy.

My favourite Extra from the early days (1997-1999) were the "Recommendations" which pretty much just showed a still frame with box cover art of other films from that studio, sometimes in the same genre as the film you're watching, sometimes not. And sometimes, if they were really special, they'd go for more than one page!

Storyboards. I hate storyboards, does anyone ever watch them?

Worst violator of this: the Disney Miyazaki 2 discs. Granted I would have probably paid heaps of gold to get these discs anyway, but having Disney tack on some storyboards to justify an expensive 2 disc set is insulting. These discs should be $15 one disc versions, not $25 2 discs.

Let me re-explain. I LOVE all extras, and watch every single one on every disc I own. The worst set of Extras I have seen on a single disc is the Cheers Season Sets. I am referring to CHeers only. My working in my last post cuased some confusion. Sorry about that.

The only good extras on the Cheers sets are the modern interviews. All the other extras are just retreads of the included series.

Believe me, I am an extras freak, and seek out discs with the most extras as humanly possible.

This is one of the few commentaries I listened to all the way through, I actually thought it was pretty funny at times.

Generally I do not watch alot of extras and would prefer less extras and higher bit rates.

The worst "extra" in any dvd is forcing me to watch a commercial or trailer before getting to the main menu or movie. Damn Top Gun and Pepsi for starting that trend.
