You are about a month too late. Good luck trying to find it from anywhere other than Ebay at outrageous prices.

Well then, don't. There's also a standard release of just the DVDs themselves.

As Josh Z just said...there will be a 'no frills' 'no gimmicks' standard Japanese R2 release.

Incidentally...received my Japanese Zatoichi DVD today and included in the package from CDJapan was a whole load of marketing leaflets etc....of which the Kill Bill was predominantly featured.
It was interesting to see a kind of slipcase in the style of a yellow tracksuit complete with zip illustrated (??) and was wondering whether a limited number of the Standard releases would be released in this?

Of course, you need a region-free player for it.

Or a Region 3 player, of course.

I don't imagine you would get much joy playing the Japanese disc on a dedicated Region 3 player.....Japan is Region 2!

Ah, I was thinking of the Korean disc that has proper subtitles and such.

Why would anyone from the U.S. buy the Japanese release when there's a better version available in R3?

Some of us have seen the movie so many times, we already memorized the un-subbed dialogue!

jough,

Do you have a link to this "better" version from R3? I'm just wondering because I haven't heard anything about it. Are you just assuming that this version will be released or do you have real information?

There was mention of it in a thread about the R2 boxed set. I ordered it from a Korean DVD site - I'll have it in my hands in about two weeks, so I'll post a review in the proper forum then.

Quick review of Kill Bill v1 R1 DVD.

PQ = 4/5. Colors are natural, and there is a bit of intentional film grain throughout. Good PQ, but not reference (when compared to, for example, the Fifth Element SB).

DD5.1 SQ = 4/5. Excellent use of the surrounds, especially in the fight scene with Go-Go, where there is movement from the right rear to the left rear speakers. Definitely not as good as the soundtrack CD, which has better dynamic range and better left-right speaker separation. Could be better.

Extras include:
- Making of KB.
- 5,6,7,8's performance of 2 songs, "I walk like Jayne Mansfield", and "I'm Blue".
- Tarantino trailer.

I don't usually like DVD menus (I rather the movie starts immediately), but in this case, the menu is so neat that it starts the movie off nicely.

I hope they come out with a deluxe R1 version that has reference PQ, SQ, and the uncensored scenes.

how long is the making of KB? Seems the dvd is dissapointingly lite on extras. Is the making of on this R1 better than the R2?

It seems like the Japanese R2 disc will have a bit more behind the scenes stuff, including a "making of" featurette dealing with the anime sequence.

Oh yes, I can see how MORE extras than were previously announced would disappoint you enough to cancel your order.

I'm guessing "HOURS:MINUTES:SECONDS:HUNDREDTH OF SECONDS" because I seriously doubt "The Making of Kill Bill" runs 22 hours. (that would be cool though)

It's just that DVD players don't list hundredths of seconds on their counters - so I was wondering now what the source of those numbers is.
