Has anyone actually emailed CBS about this?
Chances are, they will never read this thread, but if they get enough request, I don't see any reason they wouldn't release all the seasons on DVD. A "Best Of" each season would be nice too.

Season set announced

Paramount Home Entertainment has let us in on a little secret... they will be releasing Survivor Season 1 this May! This is the season with Richard, Kelly, Rudy, Sean, Colleen, Greg and others...
It's something that we thought would never happen. They tried releasing The Greatest and Most Outrageous Moments for the season, but poor sales ended all hopes of a season set release. At the TV DVD Conference last October there was a consensus that game show based reality shows were unlikely to sell on DVD because the outcome was already known.
If you have an interest in seeing other seasons of the series released you should pick this set up. I'm sure there will be many companies watching the sales of this set.

I would definately buy all the seasons on DVD.
Just think of all the unaired footage that could be added in also.

Here's a thought: Each episode could have commentary by the survivor booted in that particular episode, along with Probst. Of course, the last show would feature commentary by the final four.

I really don't see any replay value in this show - or any reality-type show. I'd re-watch it once if they included some serious extras and uncensored footage, but I just don't think I'd say "Hey, let's watch episode 9 of season 1 again."

I like Survivor better, but I think The Amazing Race has more replay value.

TV drama with an ongoing narrative?
TV drama with an ongoing narrative?
I mean it is quite literally the same as owning the 1983 season of the Baltimore Orioles and watching one game out of it knowing they will win the world series. Does one single game matter? Well, if it was edited down to a 45 min episode it could seem more harrowing and dramatic, but drama? No.

OK, first of all, judging by your description of the show, it sounds like you're not a fan of the genre. I could be wrong, but what you've written doesn't sound particularly flattering. Which is fine; to each his and/or her own. But I hate when people put too much emphasis on the fact that the show is scripted. For me, a huge Survivor fan, I enjoy watching the interplay between the people on the show. It's scripted, yes, but it's not completely scripted. Or rather, it's openly scripted. A guy (Probst) walks out and tells everyone what's going to happen next. Each entire season of Survivor is one overall story. It's the story of these people put through these scripted events. In fact, the only real letdown of the show for me is that the end is almost always anticlimactic. I don't usually care who wins.
Secondly, I don't think it's accurate to compare each episode of Survivor to a baseball game. The only thing that matters during a game in the regular season is win/loss. In Survivor, getting to the end doesn't guarantee you the money. Now, if the World Series was just putting all of the players of the teams knocked out in the playoffs in a room and letting them vote on who should win, that'd be accurate. But it's not, becuase the actions taken by a player, or coach, or team, in any given game, don't effect what happens in any other game, except in that winning more games than anyone else will get you into the playoffs. In Survivor, you can win, and still lose, becuase in the end, the winner is judged by how they performed throughout the season.
Thirdly, it is somewhat accurate to compare to a baseball game, in that each game/episode contains its own drama, in addition to the impact they have on the World Series/Final Vote. Sports are drama. And Survivor is real drama.
Fourthly, baseball rarely celebrates incompetence. People will simply stop going to the games if their team sucks. But with Survivor, the more they fill the cast with boobs, the more people watch. I mean, nobody can even make fire? That's good TV.
