Warner hasn't announced a box set for R1 (yet anyway) but they did announce they'd all be released individually in R1, the new "widescreen editions" will be released on April 6th, around $15 MSRP a piece (no doubt lower at your local Best Buy's and whatnot.) I plan to get all of them except the horrid Moscow entry.

And still, many of the works of the Marx Brothers, WC Fields, and Bill Hicks remain unreleased...

Police Academy is in its own genre and thus I can't wait for Police Academy 8: Space Odyssey! I'd also buy the 2 TV shows based on the movies.

Are they really doing 8? Why?

DavisDVD reports these for April 6th in R1! All $15 discs, minimal extras. No mention of a box but I'm pretty sure there'll be one... Exciting, and sooner than anticipated! Just hope all the deleted scenes make it and the original trailers/TV spots.

And no they're not doing an 8th; that was my ill-fated attempt at humor.

Be careful what you joke about! ;)

From this interview with Steve Guttenberg:

"There have been rumours of a Mahoney spin-off film for quite a while. I sure hope they do it. If the script’s right – I’m definitely in," says Guttenberg. "You never know, I may direct."

Guttenberg also says a new Police Academy film is almost certainly on the cards. "Definitely. It’s coming. I mean we have to. When it all comes down to it people will look down at the idea, but they're in the same business of making money too.

"And that’s what doing another one would all be about. I mean Godfather II and III were all about the money too - they were sequels. The Police Academy films gave me so much opportunity, and I’ve got nothing but a good attitude towards them. I’ll probably make it."

there was a PA TV show? sweet mother o christ!

If he has such a good attitude towards them, how come he didn't make appears in 5,6, and Moscow?

I might pick up the box set, even tho I only liked up to part 5.

jmj713 12-18-03 11:51 AM

Two of em.

Deleted Scenes + OAR = Definite Buy for me!!!

Heck, a trailer and OAR would be definite buys!!!

:D

purplechoe 12-19-03 07:08 PM

Liked them up to part 6. The Moscow one was pretty bad. Bring them on!

RobCA 12-23-03 11:18 PM

According to DVDTimes, the Police Academy Collection will have an SRP of $59.95

Not bad for a 7-disc set!

Sweet!

Doughboy 12-23-03 11:47 PM

With a price like that, it could be had for around 40 bucks. That makes it almost tempting since I didn't exactly hate 2, 3 and 4.

jayson1017 12-28-03 05:17 PM

Have you guys heard of quality dvds? Try getting horny over the release of the Bergman sets...

Can I come over to your house and take a shit on your living room floor?

These damn film snobs. I bet you guys are a lot of fun at parties. -rolleyes-

jmj713 12-28-03 10:56 PM

Hey I have Citizen Kane in my collection. I have The Godfather. I have probably around 40 Criterions. I'm gonna have the Police Academy boxset there as well, jayson1017. Let's hope they will be quality DVDs. I'm sure Warner will do them right. By the way, I've read a different date for the set. March 9, I think.

Michael Allred 01-06-04 03:44 PM

So according to Warner's press release, parts 4 & 5 will be full frame only.

jmj713 01-06-04 04:15 PM

What flabbergasting piece of ridiculiousness!! Count me out...

Weren't these starting to be Direct to Video at this point?

ferociousj2k3 01-06-04 04:53 PM

$59.95 for the set? That's really cheap. Can't wait until this comes out!!! Must Get.

jmj713 01-06-04 05:26 PM

None were direct-to-video, despite the rumors.

And ferociousj2k3, you do realize that two of the films will not be in their OAR in this set. It is definitely NOT a "must get" in this case.

PixyJunket 01-06-04 05:36 PM

MUST GET..

RobCA 01-06-04 05:52 PM

I was planning to get this, but if two of them are going to be fullscreen, I'll pass.

Way to go, Warner.

Rob

digitalfreaknyc 01-06-04 05:57 PM

No sale here either.

Looks like I'll be purchasing the first three.

It's disappointing enough that the deleted scenes won't be included. But Full frame????

Yech....
