Is there any type of date listed on the disc that I could look for with a DVD ROM drive, like with Jurassic Park from a few years ago.?
I just got one from Columbia House too, where does it say V2? I think i got an old one but haven't tried it yet.

Mine says V2 on the disc label, right after "Made in USA" on the bottom part.

I just bought this from Columbia House and got the original bad disc. I called the Universal 800 number and was told I would receive a replacement by mid-November. That is ridiculous.

I believe this is mentioned earlier in this thread. The "mid-November" language is from their original statement from last fall meaning mid-November 2003 . It's amazing that the phone operators still blurt this out, but don't worry about it, you'll get it within weeks. I also got mine from CH in January and went through the replacement process. The CSR on the phone mentioned the "mid-November" line and I ended up with the replacement disc within a month IIRC.

Is there any way to tell if the replacement discs are in the packaging? I was at Wal-Mart today and they had this set in the $14.44 rack. There were two (slightly) different packages present : One had the Wal-Mart price sticker with a "Sept 03" on the top. This had the movie title in big, bold normal size lettering on the top UPC sticker/ seal thing. The other ones had a "Feb 04" on the WM price sticker (hense I'm hoping this is the corrected version) and had unusually small, faint lettering of the film title on that top sticker. This might be the "secret" way to tell the old version from the new one. I'll probably open my copy tomorrow (after I retun my unopened original one back to Costco). I'll repost then...

Decker...what's the verdict? Was the "small, faint lettering of the film title on that top sticker" indicative of the new version? I would like to pick this up with the least amount of hassle so any idea of how to differentiate between the defective one and the new one would be helpful. I can't believe Universal did not slap a simple sticker on all the new ones to avoid any further confusion. What a pain...anyway, any help out there to assist in knowing how to tell old version from new one without opening the disc...thanks...

Just got mine from CH - jittery as awfulness can describe.

Mucking about with my Malata, I put on the "camera" Video Mode in settings. It looked fine.

It only takes a couple of weeks to get the corrected one from Universal.

I just called and got the same standard drool about the replacement coming in November.

The lady who I talked to could hardly read the letter to me, and when she asked which store I bought it at, she could not understand what Best Buy was. She actually asked me to spell it for her! So, I did. B-E-S-T B-U-Y, which she responds with Dest Buy, D-E-S-T B-U-Y. I didn't care at this point, so I said "yeah that's it" !

Hope I get the return envelope soon.

How long does it take to receive the envelopes? I called for both BTTF & Meaning of Life last week and still haven't received the pre-paid envelopes.

I think it took about 3 1/2 weeks for me to get the replacement disc.

I just got my replacement and it's says V2 right on it, like BTTF did. It took less than 3 weeks to receive it once I mailed in the bad disc.

I mailed the return envelope on 5/8/04. The postmark on the replacement they sent was 5/21/04, so within 2 weeks of my mailing, they had already mailed back to me. I just got it yesterday, so all together, about 3 weeks to receive.

I can't remember when I got the return envelope, but it took about 2 weeks, so the whole process right now seems to take about 5 weeks.

Considering it's Universal, that's really a pretty good turn around.
