Where's Man's Best Friend? That is the most violent and best episode of Ren and Stimpy ever. When I wrote John K a fan letter, he sent me a tape of uncensored cartoons, of which Man's Best Friend was one.
This is where George Liquor buys Ren and Stimpy at a pet store and teach them "discipline". Watching Ren go balistic on George Liquor is priceless (and a little disturbing).

That one has aired quite a few times on TNN/SPIKE. They were advertising it as the banned episode, and even had it in it's entirety during their SPIKE TV kickoff bash.

I've only watched one of the 3 DVDs so far. I sure hope the quality of the other two are better than the one I did watch.
I'm appalled at how bad the video quality is! It looks like they took a mediocre VHS copy and transferred it to DVD. I've seen commercial VHS copies that looked better.

The quality of the video transfers (for each short) varies from good vhs, to mediocre vhs. There's quite a bit of bleeding and compression problems - which is wierd because each disc is only about 75 minutes.
In some cases it looks like the animation cells have been dragged around on asphault before being transfered.
The stereo sound in decent and clear enough.

eww. wonder if they just transfered it off of VHS or Beta copies.
I have most of these that I copied off a VHS tape that was copied off of cable.
these can't be worse than those.

Jeez, that's too bad. It's been a long time since I've viewed the laserdisc (someone offered me an obscene amount of money for it a few years ago and I couldn't refuse)... but I recall that the quality of the LD was superb. I watched Space Madness on LD many, many times.

I watched the episode powder toast man today. I was a bit upset that they di an edit to this story. The Scene where powder toast man gets up to put paper in the fire place has been changed. the old papers that he thows in the fire place if memory serves me correct was the declaration of independence. It was changed to a blank sheet. any one elso notice this?

You know, I thought that the scene was different for the very same reason, but I figured that maybe I was just imagining things.
I have watched most of two discs; there are some definite issues with the video quality in a few of the episodes. However, since this is probably the only way that we will ever get Ren and Stimpy, I guess I would rather have grain and poor video in spots, rather than not have the series at all.

I watched a few episodes last night. Yes, they do look like shit. Very disappointing.
I agree that this is probably going to be the sole release, so I'll take what I can get. But it is inexcusable to just slap old masters onto a DVD like this.

A Best of Set, with sub-standard VHS quality video, AND it's edited...Sorry, I'll wait for the eventual release with the new TNN stuff (I dont like Adult Party, but you have to figure the shows comeback means more DVD releases)

This excellent review from DVD Times gives all the info on the cuts & quality issues from this set. They still recommend it overall.
Yeah, it's imperfect, but I doubt we'll see a better set anytime soon.

I ordered this set also and got a shipping notice more than two weeks ago (I used a coupon code for free shipping), but haven't received it yet - does it usually take this long for Time-Life orders to arrive? How long should I wait before contacting them?
