If I didn't collect them, my DVD player would become a $100 paperweight on my shelf!

What can I say, I love porn. And since I rewind and freeze so much, it's a better option to get the disc version rather than the tape version. Although DVD releases delay somewhat from the VHS version...

Why do you believe that George Lucas is the ultimate source on the matter of film vs digital video? Lucas shoots dv because his movies contain so many computer visuals its live actors inserted in an animated feature. It makes sense to shoot dv for him because he needs to put all of his footage in the computer to process anyway.

35mm film has a considerably higher resolution than current HD technology. Here is a quote on 35mm vs digital photography

Canon says its EOS-1Ds is the first digital camera to match 35mm photography. It's a professional camera with 11.1 megapixel resolution and state-of-the-art features. A snip at $16,499.
So, when you can run digital video at 11 megapixels, it will have a resolution similar to film. But film has a certain quality that a great number of people find appealing; dv will never be able to recreate this. There are studies that show that our brain processes film images differently than video images, and this affects how we feel while watching. Film causes brainwaves that are similar to those we experience while dreaming.

35mm isn't the best film has to offer either, theres 70mm, theres finer grain films, theres processes that run at 48 fps instead of 24. There are all kinds of ways to improve on film that exist already; all of them are better than current digital video picture quality.

But the Star Wars guy likes shooting in digital so by all means lets spend huge amounts of money to convert all theatres ASAP to an inferior format

The way i see it is this. Its going to cost me more to go out to a movie with my girlfriend when i can wait for it to come out on dvd and watch it at home without all of the people on cel phones and children making noise. I enjoy being comfortable and not destracted when i see movies. If i dont like the dvd i dont buy it or i sell it. It just seems better to me to collect them. I can watch them whenever i want and as much as i want. I dont have to worry about wanting to smash some guys/girls face in with a screaming child becasue the parents are too stupid to hire a baby sitter. Sorry had to rant. Its worth it to me to just stay in at the home theater.

I never liked movies that much until my first dvd player.

Now I consider myself a movie fan, and buy dvds to support my habit.

You usually support a live & let live attitude. This is almost a dig of sorts. It infers that your choices are obviously the correct ones, while others are purchasing/collecting.........junk.

I'm not attacking you for your comment. It was just a little dissapointing to read that last remark.

Mind if I ask to whom you refer?

Being able to watch movies in the comfort of your own home is where it's at for me!..No sticky floors, noisy kids or people yapping

I don't miss going to theatre at all..

sorry to be a rain cloud to someone on a sunny day. first of all....no...you may not know of whom I'm speaking of...but thanks for the concern. I admit....I usually keep my mouth shut on these boards and say nothing to harsh. when compared to many comments around here...I'm tame. after 12 or 14 hour, brutal work days running my company in constant physical hi-gear....I may feel a little wound up and something will leak out. so something leaked....no worries. the statement should raise no concern. even Barry Bonds strikes out. he's still a great hitter. am I a bit of a film snob? yeah...in my own littleworld. but then I'm a snob about some pretty bad films...so what the hell do I know?

just finished another 14 hour day...so I'll keep my mouth shut since I'm proned to say more stupid things while being totally wasted and out of it.

Why do I collect DVDs? The same important reason why some people climb mount Everest... because it's there!

What on Earth does this "head-to-head" smiley represent? Right-clicking it tells me it's the dreaded "pftroest" smiley variant. What's "pftroest"?

Is the lil' guy on the left rubbing the other's forehead....making it the "Poor lil' feller" smiley?

same as many. movies have become a hobbie of mine. i wish i had the time to watch at least one movie every night. i like to watch a movie and discuss it with my wife or whomever i watched with. i have three ways of viewing movies>
1. go to the theater when it is a must see! or just want to go out with my wife.

2. purchase all my favorite movies on dvd to have a collection that can always be watched.

3. netflix is reserved for all movies i wanted to see but werent a must see or other movies that i may end up buying later but want to check it out first.

i buy a movie because i find enjoyment in watching it!

Why do I collect DVDs?? Because collecting beautiful actresses take up too much room, and they eventually erode and deteriorate.

Well, maybe there isn't much difference then, is there?
