I like movies and I feel that renting is a waste of money.
If the DVD I bought sucks badly, I can always sell it to someone

I collect DVDs because I love movies. &nbsp It's really that simple.

A few reasons:

1. I like having a selection of DVD's for visitors. Different family members spend an average of one week per month at our house, and I like the fact that there's a wide selection of movies they can watch on our home theater.
2. I like to know that whenever I'm in the mood to watch a certain movie, I can go grab it.
3. I think it's a good value.
4. For some reason, I just like owning them.

I do, however, very rarely buy a movie I haven't seen. We rent 1-2 movies per week, and once i see one I like, I add it to my wishlist.
I also buy about 1 hardcover book per week ( I have almost 700 in my library now), but this is a collection i'm considering getting rid of.

I love watching movies and it's great to have a few TV shows that I love at my fingertips...to watch any ep at any time.

I travel all the time, so I'm constantly killing time in airports and hotels in the middle of nowhere. Having a stack of movies and TV shows on DVD means I always have something fun and entertaining to watch and pass the time.

I want to be able to pull any DVD off the shelf and settle an argument over who has the correct movie lines.

I like movies and so do my friends. Plus there is a little competition between my friend and I on who will have the most. Right now he's a few hundred ahead of me.

My shelf of carefully chosen DVDs is a chick magnet. In NYC, you use your tastes to get laid.

I love movies. And piling up a bunch of DVD in my closet is a lot better than piling up a sack of money.

You're not, by chance, related to the "man hanging from windshield / hidden in garage" lady, are you?

$50/month used to go to rental fees and late fees. That's $600 a year. I told myself, "Ok, time to keep that money in the family!"

I like movies, and I like OAR. DVD movies look nice. Not worried about them become obsolete. I don't plan on buying them again.

For me its about having my greatest films of all time, which lets face it at their best are works of art - in their best presentation with extra features, so that my family and I can enjoy them for a lifetime.

Some people get pleasure out of collecting art others stamps whatever the reasons as long as enjoyment is attained and its harmless there is no need to feel weird or guilty about doing it.

Thanks for the input guys...I have nothing against collecting them, I was just wondering why you do while taking into account some reasons why some people I know DON'T collect...they'll tell me "why do you need to watch it more then once"...those are the same people just watching movies on a 25" tv with sound coming thru the TV's speakers.

I bought my 65" Widescreen for DVD watching vs. TV watching. I'd say its 75% dvd vs. 25% TV viewing. I was sick of seeing those black bars on my 4:3 tv...plus I love hearing the reaction when people come into my home and see my behemouth RPTV...I sometimes wish I got the 72" Mitsu cuz mine is already looking small to me.

I will continue to buy movies to add to my collection, I just have to figure out a new way to store them...my two skinny shelves that hold about 90-100 dvd's each is almost full.

It's simple - the acquisition. Besides, I have to have something to offset my CD addiction

Hey, Vice86, check out http://www.can-am.ca. This is what I use for my CD and DVD storage - they have a very commercial asthetic, but I find that they fit in well w/ my decor. They're secure, sturdy, and provide concealment. They work great for me.

I collected VHS tapes once, but they took up a lot of space. DVDs takes up less space. I have been collecting since 99... and I have a decent collection, IMHO. I also love film and I work with it whenever I get time as well.

I collect DVDs because I enjoy watching movies and want to have movies within reach when I'm in the mood for a particular movie.

nice storage units vincew...but I like to be able to see them so I'm trying to find a storage solution that still shows what I have.
