At 22, no one I know has more than me (around 330) - most of my friends don't get my obsession, but oh well.

I have about 225 and out of my friends or people I know only one who comes anywhere close. My best friends brother in law has almost 200.

At my apartment, the four of us together have about 900. I have about 300, one of the other guys has about 450, another about 100, and the other about 50. Not to mention my friend who lives down the street and has about 300 himself.

We've discuss several times of opening up a mini-Blockbuster. But 100 times better of course.

Not at all, only friend I have who collects dvds has a collection somewhere in the 30's, while my own collection is 431. On the other hand he has a pretty big cd collection so I guess that is where his money goes each week.

I have a friend who has more CDs than me (he's got around 2500, I've only got around 1700), but I beat him easily on DVDs (I'm at about 1300 now). I've got almost 2300 movies total in my collection. Nobody I know even comes close to that... but I do have a friend who has an unknown quantity of VHS and Beta tapes. He has been videotaping pretty much every episode of every prime-time network series for years. I've been in his place, you can barely walk through it. Tapes line all the walls from floor to ceiling, several rooms are simply full of tapes, and what we call "stalagtapes" rise from every floor. It's a sight to behold.

Nope. I have almost 1948 DVDs and I don't know anyone who even approaches that. I've even stopped telling people how many I have, because they don't believe me. The last person I bragged about my collection to was a guy I was talking to in Best Buy. We were comparing movies in our collection, and he asked how many I had. When I told him he looked at me and said "Why would you lie about how many DVDs you own. That's pathetic." I just laughed. The sad thing is at the time, I only had ~700.

I "know" people on here that have literally thousands more dvds than I have, but in my "real" life, no, I'm the king. My friends don't rent anymore, they come to my house.

Same here - sitting with over 1000 DVDs, and still have about 2000 movies on VHS that haven't shown up on DVD yet.

It's scary.

I recently stayed at a bed and breakfast in Maine and the guy there said he had 1100 VHS and 40 DVDs.. I believe him because there was VHS everywhere in his living room, kitchen, bedrooms, etc,... He also had a Bose system that he loved to show off to all the guests

I have a friend who has more DVDs than I do. He has around 500 whereas I'm at about 420. I was a bit jealous at first but then when he was telling me what kind of movies he had I calmed down. "No, I've never heard of Criterion"

I don't know anyone with more than me. I'm 23 and I have about 462 right now. My friends think I'm on crack, but they never seem to mind coming over to watch them. Plus I don't smoke or drink so this is my one vice.

More than my cousin Ginwen

Less than coworker Nosmo Rex

Less than Geoff Kleinman, I would wager.

I am hovering around 700 and have decided that when I fill my current storage medium, I will remove a DVD every time a new one comes in. This will probably mean that I won't have more than 800. I have several DVDs that I will never watch again, so they are just taking up space and need to find a new home.

This thread is somewhat of a catharsis.

I "only" have around 150 DVD's, and I don't know anyone else who has more than 20 or 30. Sometimes my collecting mentality feels like a full-blown addiction. I have to physically force myself sometimes to avoid Best Buy, Border's, etc. on the way home from work, much like I used to have to avoid 7-11's when I was trying to quit smoking. It's the same feeling.

Even when I'm at Target with my wife and kids buying stuff like shaving cream and diapers, I feel drawn to the DVD section, and I have to keep telling myself "move along, move along - you can get that stuff cheaper through DDD, etc."

Sad, really. And I've definitely been neglecting my music collection since I started in with the whole DVD thing. Oh, well... hopefully I'll regain my senses soon and learn to collect in moderation!

My friend and his brother have ~200 DVDs I think. I don't know personally any others who would have more DVDs than I have (and I only have ~70).

Sure know that feeling. My wife just doesn't understand it, though after 6 years of collecting and over 400 movies, she is starting to come around. She is starting to browse the dvd aisle at Target or Walmart whenever she's out shopping, I am physically and mentally unable to go to the store without doing this.

I don't know anyone in real life that has even close to the number I have. The closest is my mom who has about 60. I have 174 and feel like it is a modest collection compared to others on this board.

This board is its own little world that most people can't understand.

I have 74 which is at least three times as many as any of my friends/acquaintances. They all see my DVDs and gasp, which only makes me laugh.

One of my friends who lives in Hawaii visited recently, she hadn't been here for about a year and my collection had probably doubled from the last time she saw it. I could tell that she "didn't get it" when she made the comment, "Wow, it's really nice to have so many movies to pick from when people come over to visit you."

Like that's the only time I watch my movies? Hello!
