It's 10,000 (or rather 9,999 since I pre-ordered mine).

Why must Lustig perpetuate the marketing gimmicks that he pioneered at Anchor Bay?! You've heard of PC software marketed as "shareware"? Well, Lustig has introduced the concept of "scareware" to the DVD scene.

These arbitrary "limited editions" are nothing but attempts to scare consumers into buying ASAP...or risk "missing out".

I'm extremely interested in the mondo boxset, but I don't want to encourage BL to continue these stunts...so like the other AB "limited editions" I'll wait until they're discounted before picking it up.

it worked...I pissed my pants again Bill....damn you!

wont usually work on me like that. I buy the day of release....limited or not. if I want it....I buy it. now I'm going skydiving again on the 1st. I have to buy the Lee box day of release...just in case I end up a stain on the pavement. at least I went out watching something I wanted. my damn friends talked me into doing another low altitude pull. bastards.

lets see what limited discs are around a year from now...just for kicks.

I noticed "Toolbox Murders", "Prowler" and "Shock Waves" are all price dropping on 9/30. As luck would have it, I already own all of these, since I had pre-ordered all of them in the past (didn't want to miss out) . Anyone know of any other BU impending drops?

Today I recieved my Christopher Lee box set early... it looks amazing!

The only other BU disc I own is The Crazies, though a lot of them are on my wishlist- especially Two Evil Eyes. So far from what I've seen this company rocks.

Rumor has it that there'll be a price drop on the SPAGHETTI WESTERN box early next year. Hope so, as I'm a-waitin' fer it!

Basically, all of the titles which were initially released via BU's distribution deal with Image are going to get re-released through Rykodisk at a lower MSRP.

Why not I ask? He is in a business of selling product and obviously this one form of marketing to assist that.

Excellent point....but in a wider sense i think it may.
The fact that it is labelled as a 'limited edition' is going to entice collectors..and lets be honest there are those who pander to this.
Those same collectors (whilst many don't even watch them or open them, i appreciate) may not be too familiar of BU's other catalogue titles so if they get to see BU's product via the marketing gimmick of LE's it may help to further sales of other titles when people realise the quality of their releases.

Having said that...scratch everything i've just said...i may be dreaming or being overly optimistic

...or more likely, to try to ensure that the target audience doesn't walk by a DVD, think "wow, that's neat; I'll have to get that later", then forget about it. The 'limited edition' label is an attempt to add some immediacy to a purchase...to avoid having dozens of copies languishing on store shelves, collecting dust. I think it's kind of silly, personally, but I understand why they do it.

as a collector...I think I've mastered this problem. I treat every dvd like it's limited, BU or not. I jump on all of them the same, usually. many limited releases are just that.....and you have to learn to know just how limited. I Drink Your Blood was obvious....and look how many people lost out.

Looking forward to seeing Bill Lustig at the Chiller / Fango Con in January. He'll be previewing upcoming BU titles.

I just finished watching The Christopher Lee Collection. I loved every disc in the set. I had the Fu Manchu films on VHS, and they have never looked this good. This is a great buy.

As others have said: YES.

If you have a product that you estimate will sell 10,000 copies... why not release it in a 'limited edition' of 20,000? Doing so will usually result in more sales (from collectors, speculators, and people with a 'quick, gotta-get-it-now' mentality).

Look at Anchor Bay for some classic examples of this business model. I doubt SUPERGIRL would have sold 10% of what it did, without the numbered, limited edition aspect.

Yes....as i mentioned earlier....just can't bring myself to buy this set and being unfamiliar with the material besides 'reputation' etc...i suppose this is one release which you just can't justify as a good 'blind buy'.

some are saying the same about the Lee collection...but the price is a deal. I've saved up about $75 for Mondo and I'm going in totally blind....except for what research I've done...which is usually enough for me. lets hope I'm right.

Hope you don't mind being used as the 'guinea pig' but i for one would certainly like to hear of your general opinions once you get this.Particularly, judging by past posts of yours that i seem to have similar tastes to yourself.

On the subject of 'Mondo' although totally different don't forget that Mondo Macabro release- Living Corpse i mentioned to you a while back, released next week.

I just read their "Future Releases" section of their website and I was thrilled to see BU is planning to release one of my all time favorites "Fight for Your Life".

I can finally retire my old VHS copy, which was used when I bought it about 10 years ago. I originally saw it at a drive-in Titled "Bloodbath at 1313 Fury Road". I hope they get William Sanderson to do a commentary.

I will also be picking up the Mondo Collection. This is not a good blind buy for a casual DVD buyer. It is a great buy for collector's of obscure genre films.

I don't doubt that...i wouldn't class myself as a 'casual' DVD buyer but i'm no 'collector' either and for me they would have to have a degree of re-watchability which if i'm swayed by certain reviews/reports of the films contained in the set then this simply isn't an option.

no problem man...I'll report on it as I go along. it's a "big brown truck" order...so hope to have it no later than the release date. with any luck I'll get it a day or two before.

nope...have not forgot about The Living Corpse. I made note of that as soon as I read your post back then....gotta have it!!!!
