Well, having seen the screen shot comparisons between the two editions, I would have to disagree. Although I'm a big fan of the UE and it's piles of extras, the picture quality has been significantly improved in this new release.

Well, I finally decided to open up my case and thought that I would be one of the lucky ones not to tear up the side. After talking the necessary precautions such as pinching the sides and praying. The damn thing ripped. Looks like I am gonna call artisan. That's what they get for hiring dumbass manufacturers.

I actually returned mine to Best Buy today for a replacement (I sorta said the disc was defective too *cough*). Anyway, I kept checking the ones in stock until I found one that moved in and out of the tin easily from within the plastic. I opened it up as soon as I was out of the store to find that it slipped out easily.

I'd love to search for this, but I can't search for "T2" using the search engine here. Grrrr....

Anyway, what was the final verdict on best B&M price for this puppy? I'm picking up one as a gift and, you know, if I can save a few bucks over Best Buy's $20 I'll be happy.

Got it out of the tin in one piece, but won't be putting it back in! Anchor Bay's Tins don't look so bad now huh?

So does that mean Artisan will send me another plastic case so I can just tear again? Or will they also send me a non-defective metal case?

So people bitch that the UE metal case doesn't hold the dvd at all, so they make one that does and people still bitch. Lose-Lose situation I guess. I had no problems taking the dvd out of the case.

Now having read the booklet, I'm wondering what the OAR enthusiasts are thinking about this version. To my recollection it said the only way to get the resolution for the HD version of the EE, was to use the full frame version of the film. Did I read that right?

I picked my copy up tonight. Being VERY well aware of this thread and the problems with the case, I was as careful as one could be --- sure enough, the plastic ripped on the binding was ripped. It seemed as if it happened when they put it in the case...my taking it out didn't appear to cause it.

I guess I've spent more money on this title than I'll likely spend on any other title (even old Star Wars trilogy) in my lifetime, having spent $100's of dollars on the two special multivolume laserdisc versions earlier, then having bought the two T2 releases on DVD too. I really wonder if it's worth getting the new one or not.

Was looking at a copy at the store today, and also noted that the newer higher resolution version doesn't sound like it plays in standard DVD players and needs Windows Media Player 9 to play at high res?

Anyone get the high res version to play on a Mac? If I can't get it to play on a Mac, I wonder really what I'd get from this over what I have in the Ultimate Edition already (which I still haven't gone through all of the fine detailed scripts, etc. that it has in it).

I could be wrong, but I was under the impressions that it's a 16x9 full frame version. This was accomplished by opening the mattes on the top and bottom. You aren't losing anything from the sides of the original 2:35:1 ratio, but just adding to the top and bottom.

As for the case, I was really carefull when I got mine out so no problems there. I did figure out what was causing everyone elses problems though. I just covered the sharp edges on the inside foldovers with scotch tape and now it doesn't catch on the edges of the clear plastic case. Works great!

There is no way this will play on anything without Windows Media 9. You also need a pretty hot system to play it properly.

What exactly does the insert say? I looked at it briefly and told myself that I'd read it later. But is the movie on disc 1 some other ratio other than 2.35:1?

Coolness, thanks for the tip. Mine should show up any day and I'll give it a shot.

The actual DVD version on disk 1 is the OAR of 2:35:1, the HD WMP99 version on disk 2 will be shown in an open matte 1:78:1, or 16x9. At least that's the way I understand it.

Nice service. Wish that would catch on rather than the "giant floating head syndrome."

Mine did include the cover insert. I did mention in my e-mail to them that it was also torn.

Picked up another of these and CUT the metal case off of it. The plastic case was all scratched up underneath.

It looks like the cases were scratched going IN.

Idiots.
