the video quality on these discs should be amazing. Lowry did Sunset Boulevard, and those who own it know how amazing it looks and how well it was restored. i can't wait to see these films in all their DVD glory.

Great news. Looking forward to finally owning this one on DVD.
A few points:
* I'm glad they're putting these in what looks to be four keepcases in an outer wrapper. Keepcase = class.
* The $49.95 price is probably what the set will sell for - it's not the MSRP, but the suggested list price - you may see it dip into the 40s if stores want to loss-lead this title(s), but there probably won't be much deep competition - it'll sell huge at the full SRP.
* Wasn't DTS not yet invented when ROTLA came out? I know they're re-mixing to Dolby Digital 5.1, but it was probably mastered in DD Stereo Surround (if not just 2.0 Stereo)
* The re-naming of the first Indy movie is only for the box art, and it keeps all three films together alphabetically in listings (even if the order of the films alphabetically is 3 1 2)
* Nice looking cover. The Trilogy Title is actually bigger than the studio logo - is that a first?
* The bonus features are supposed to be "produced especially for this DVD collection." So don't expect the same making-of features you've seen before.
* "Each of the three films in THE ADVENTURES OF INDIANA JONES – THE COMPLETE DVD MOVIE COLLECTION was painstakingly restored by Lowry Digital Images – the film industry’s most noted preservationists – whose work has included such classics as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Sunset Boulevard. "
They do REALLY nice work.
It all looks very classy. I hope people don't complain too much about whatever is wanted and missing. I'll be happy to have the digitally remastered 16:9 picture and 5.1 surround sound.
Anything else is gravy.

It doesn't really matter to me. I have little interest in watching 100 year old Harrison Ford running around with a whip. A fourth film is just a bad idea.....

For some reason, I see Indy 4 it like a Once Upon A Time In America type movie. Old Indy walking around the old hangouts, meeting up with old firends ("Hey, is that you Short Round?....Captain Katanga! Boy am I surprised to see you!....)

But there's a lot of possibilities for an old Prof. Jones who's "getting too old for this s***" to have one last adventure. They could even play up his age for some humour. Have his back hurt him while he tries to recover his hat. Stuff like that.

Can't wait, naturally. Funny though - just the other day I saw a Beta copy of ROTLA in a junk store and thought "Gee, they didn't waste any time getting this on Beta, what's the wait on DVD?"

This from TheDigitalBits.com today:
So maybe there *will* be DTS and commentaries. I noticed the press release was light on details about the special features.
I'm happy to know the street date. That's the week before LOTR: TTT: EE, right?
Dang, November's going to be a great DVD month again.
I must say that given the extras and treatment of Lord of the Rings (6+ hours of extra features PER FILM of the trilogy, not including commentaries) I would've expected a little more from Indy. Like maybe 3 hours of features PER FILM. Not just all together like that.
But hey, who am I to complain? It only took them six years to produce the thing. That's only 18 months of production time per hour of extra features.

Well... an interesting thing's happened this afternoon. We've just gotten off the phone with Lucasfilm. They've told us that the initial announcement made today is only the beginning in terms of details on the special features to be included on the bonus disc. There are, apparently, significant extras yet to be revealed in the weeks and months ahead. In fact, they're apparently still working to finalize everything to Spielberg and Lucas' satisfaction in terms of the extras. So there is yet hope that The Adventures of Indiana Jones: The Complete DVD Movie Collection will prove an impressive special edition release. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

they could do an "exclusive" bonus disc of the vintage documentaries previously mentioned in this thread several times.
remember the "R2-D2 Beneath the Dome" doc. disc offered at Best Buy, Mediaplay, Suncoast, etc. when Ep. II came out on DVD? they could put out a disc with all the old making-of TV specials from the 80's, charge $10 for it, and everyone would be happy...
are you listening Lucasfilm & Paramount?

I don't think I've ever even seen Raiders or Temple of Doom in widescreen. I saw The Last Crusade in the theater, but not the others. I've purposely stayed away from the Scif-Fi channel widescreen broadcasts because I knew these were coming soon. This will be great!

I have to agree with darqleo; if the updated specs thedigitalbits spoke of aren't much more to speak of, then you really have to wonder what they're smoking down at the ranch. There are numerous documentaries and making-of's for both trilogies. They could have released sets like these for IJ and SW years ago, and then gave us the super-uber sets in a few years.
Anyways, keeping my fingers crossed the additional goodies are really impressive. I picked up the WS VHS set a few years back, and I don't think I've ever watched the whole set. This set is definetely on my maybe list as it stands.

Fans will have to be patient before Lucas' first three Star Wars episodes reach DVD. "We're not sure when exactly, but it will be coming out someday."

A ray of hope for SW Trilogy fans anyway.
It must be especially encouraging to the many nay-sayers who have claimed that Mr. Lucas will NEVER put the OT on DVD.

I loved Raiders, thought Doom was good, but hated Last Crusade.
I wish they would let people have a choice when it comes to trilogies.
I would love to own Godfather and Godfather 2, but I hate the third movie and cannot bring myself to buy a high priced set.
I love Star Wars, absolutely love Empire(original releases), Jedi, on the other hand ,is way down on my movie **** list so if Lucas releases the trilogy I'm ****ed. I just cannot justify buying a set when I know one or two of the movies are worthless.
Especially if the set is selling at an exorbinant price( aka, Godfather trilogy).
Is it too much to ask for trilogies to be released individually so that fans can buy the ones they like instead of having to buy a set and have to include movies in their collection that they loathe?
Maybe sometime in the near future Raiders Of The Lost Ark will be released on its own.
I can only hope.

I agree that it's a disappointment that they are force-bundling the whole trilogy. Personally, I'm only interested in the first movie so I guess I'll be taking a pass...

November's getting expensive: Indy, DS9 Season 6, and and X-Files Season 8 on the 4th, Two Towers EE on the 18th, and B5 Season 3 should be around here somewhere Didn't this happen last year, there was some date in November where everything came out at once? I'm happy even if my wallet will be begging for mercy.

This sucks. I hate Temple of Doom and Last Crusade is an okay movie so this is terrible news. I've waited all this time for a Raiders of the Lost Ark DVD and now who knows if I will ever own this movie.

Buy it. Sell Temple of Doom and Last Crusade separately on eBay for about $10 each. You now have Raiders and a disc of bonus materials for less than $10 out of pocket. Done.
