These "October Horror Movie Challenge" threads are for the discussion of the films in the 31 FILM SUBSET list.

The plan is for everyone to watch this film on the October day in the thread title, and to start discussing it the morning of the following day.
You may start discussion early if you want, but the preferred plan is for this to be as much of a group exercise as possible, with all of us viewing it "together" and discussing after.

Of course, you are totally encouraged to participate in these threads even if you haven't watched the movie on the designated day.
Even if you haven't watched it in years, or are not participating in the Horror Challenge, please feel free to chime in.

Spoiler tags aren't always used in here, so if you have yet to see the film BEWARE OF POSSIBLE SPOILERS.

"To know death, Otto, you have to fuck life in the gall bladder." So true. How many times have we all said this line?

I've seen this movie a few times before. I remember seeing it for the first time when I was probably only like 20 years old. I found it painfully dull. I just didn't get it. At all. I saw it years later, and I got it a lot more. I appreciate the absurdity of it, and it's pretty much all absurd - the acting, dialogue, effects, the ending.

This is my second time watching it in 3D, and I think it's one of the more unconventional but effective films in that format. There are a lot of great pop-out effects, which are fun, and the surgery scenes are much more effective because of it. There's also great use of depth throughout. The film really is one of the best uses of the Blu-ray 3D format (not sure on the anaglyph version). It makes me wonder what it would have looked like had they filmed Blood for Dracula in 3D.

Overall, I think Blood for Dracula is a better - and funnier - movie, but Flesh for Frankenstein is still some good gory fun and with 3D that really adds a lot to the visual experience. I certainly get that it won't be for all tastes, though.

My first time watching this. Sure am glad I resisted the urge to buy the UHD. It’s alright. Udo is the only real saving grace. I’m expecting about the same from Blood For Dracula.

Absurd is a good description and though I have seen this film several times I still laughed when Udo Kier bothered to pick up his severed hand and tried holding to it to his wrist as if it would somehow reattach itself only to throw it in anger -- "It's all your fault!"

The final scene with the children looking upon Nicholas with menace made for a creepy unresolved ending.

Flesh for Frankenstein is a weird film with a strange mix of humor, pagentry, and gore. The acting is some of the worst especially 'the wife' which must have been intentional and fits with how homoerotic is seems (that the wife is just a set piece to gave upon her male companion). The organ special effects were great and some of the obvious 3D staging added a lot (especially the heart at the end). A lot about FFF felt like it might have gone over my head. I liked the implied circle of the sibling parents dying in tragedy for their children to pick again where they left off. FFF is a film that seems more interesting than good.

I’ll always remember this and it’s companion film as my introduction to collecting Criterions. Absurdly interesting, but not something I’ll likely watch for another decade or more.

I have seen portions of this over the years, but never the whole until today. This was a fun ride poking fun at the wealthy class in every way imaginable. Udo has chosen the perfect nasum. The specimen seals the deal in the doctor's mind by canoodling with 2 whores at the brothel. What a virile Serbian specimen! When it comes time to collect the head, they end up decapitating the prospective monk who has his eye firmly on the New Jersey farmer. Will Frankenstein's zombie ever procreate?

I had fun with this one. Started to listen to the commentary, but will save that for next time.
