Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

Just came from Dollar Tree, nothing but public domain crap to be found. They also changed the price back to $1 a piece for them instead of 2 for a buck.

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

9-23-2010 at Lenoir City, TN Dollar Tree

Thunderbird 6 - WS

This was all they had with the exception of 20 copies of slimcased "The Bodyguard". No, it's not the Whitney Houston film. It's some old public domain movie.

Found "Darkman 2 and 3" today. Along with dozens of "Carla and Connie". Bar codes were slashed.

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

I spotted several copies of the Ahmet Ertegun & Barenaked Ladies discs here in NJ. Haven't spotted the one I want (The Pretenders) tho.

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

Except for that little flurry of decent DVDs last fall, Dollar Tree has had nothing to offer in almost a year. Anyway, I find the place depressing.

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

Stopped by mine last night and they had about 10 copies of "Atlantic Records: The House that Ahmet Built" mixed in with the crappy public domain stuff. No other good stuff. I bought one for myself and one for a friend, but I'll probably go back for another one because I remembered somebody else that will feel snubbed if they don't get one. It's a really good documentary for $1. I only wish they included the entire performances as DVD extras instead of just the clips.

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

The normal Dollar Tree near me and the huge super sized Dollar Tree near here never have any DVD's. I was lucky to get one. But it was a left over from last Christmas. They don't even except to get anymore until around Christmas. You guys are lucky to be spotting so many titles for $1.

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

Some of these seem to be a regional thing- I've been watching for the Barenaked Ladies DVD since I'd pay more for that (it's got real 5.1 mixes of the songs) but it hasn't come up around here. I did get a bunch of the movies last month though, it's just very hit-or-miss.

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

One of the local DT must have had a box or two of dvds in the back and just put them out so I grabbed 4 copies of the 'Pretenders: The Isle of View' even though I already have 2 copies i never even opened yet...

Other than that, same old stuff at DT...

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

Stopped at a Dollar Tree in Heath, Ohio and found lots of previously viewed DVD titles at $1 each. Most of the titles still have Hollywood Video and Movie Gallery stickers on them.
There were multiple copies of KILL ME AGAIN with Val Kilmer and THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM with Vincent Price. I'm watching PIT right now and it's in great shape. The disc itself has no scratches or blemishes on it. I was not familiar with some of the other films in the display but there may be something there that you're looking for.

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

Funny Dollar Tree is getting unsold Hollywood Video stuff- the last store I saw close had a Goodwill truck in front of it, so thought they'd be getting most of it. (Still can't bring myself to buy a used DVD, even for a buck.)

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

Found a few of the PV titles and picked up "Valdez Is Coming" and the Demme docu "Jimmy Carter: Man From Plaines" at the Brooklyn Center DT. (This store is in the same nearly-vacant strip mall as Big Lots, at Hwy 100 & John Martin Drive...just north of Brokedale.)

After years of rolling the dice on used VHS and getting burned many times, DVD's are a refreshing switch in my favor. Not that I like getting a scratched or scuffed disc but even worst case scenario, generally with a movie I really want, I can get it resurfaced and have it play just like new.

In the case of Dollar Tree, for a buck I can't even rent it for that cheap so if a movie is on my radar at all then I've got no problem taking a chance even though I don't like rental boxes and they usually don't have the artwork.

Of course, your collection is probably much more pristine than mine but I rarely sell what I've got so as long as it plays and is in reasonable condition I'm happy to take a chance on used.
