Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Seriously...since Target, Walmart, Marshalls/Tj Maxx/AJ Wright and FiveBelow (one of those opened nearby, not impressed) and occasionally even BJ's all meet that price point, a lot of the novelty would be gone. It would definitely make me much more selective.

I've had to drop my daughter off at work the past three days and have literally hit the Big Lots down the road on a nightly basis.

My name is (fill in the blank) and I'm a BigLotsaholic.

Old barebones discs or the newer deluxe versions? Did they have holographic slipcovers?

I'm not sure, but I think at least two said "deluxe" on the cover... no slipcovers on the ones I saw... I was in a hurry, so I don't really remember....

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

I picked up some $3 titles I'd heard were around but had never seen and some I don't recall being mentioned including 3 that appear to be OOP (if Amazon is any indication):

Tilt/Playmakkers/???
Mike Hammer Double Feature
Lilith (Warren Beatty)

Possibly OOP:

Atlantic City
Will Penny (Charleton Heston western)
The Rose Tattoo

WOW...they now carry Charlie Brown titles too? At least they're improving their stock over there.

I picked up "It Happened on 5th Avenue" over 6 months ago. If they do some restock you might get lucky and find one. Those went fast here (I saw 6 copies - all gone in a couple of days).

So are the $5 DVDs on sale for $3 next week? The wording in next week's ad is a little confusing and they picture $3 titles.

Thanks. I didn't see any of them down here at any of the 10 BL. They must have gone quick.

I also want to find the Astaire and Rogers - Partners in Ryhthm bonus disc that came with the complete collection box set.

No. The ad is just alerting you to the fact they have both $3 and $5 DVDs with "new stock".

I suspect their pricing is based on their cost.

And their cost from the distributor is probably based on how recent the titles are and how popular they think they are. While I'd like to think they just price the whole batch, you never know if someone with a little DVD knowledge goes through the list trying to spot popular titles and make those ones $5 instead of $3 out of a normally $3 batch. Considering they use generic SKUs for most titles, they have no way of tracking how many of an individual movie they sell.

I've never seen Charlie Brown DVDs there, but seriously they should only be $3 or less considering most contain only 2 episodes @ roughly 20-something minutes each. That's like half a single layer DVD. Now if Paramount weren't greedy on their CB DVDs and put 4-8 episodes each, they'd be worth more. I won't pay $3 for 2 episodes and will wait and hope for a complete box set someday (where they actually put at least 8 episodes on a dual layer disc) so that it's complete, hopefully more reasonably priced, and doesn't waste so much shelf space. I'm a Peanuts fan, but I haven't bought any CB DVDs, even those on sale, precisely because of the way Paramount has handled this.

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

A new restock in the Big Lots at Trexlertown, PA. They have some titles that have been mentioned before. I bought:

The Ruins unrated edition (lots o copies of this)
Let's scare Jessica to death (only one copy)

Finding these titles made my day. I wanted to get The Ruins for a long time and LSJtD has been in my Blockbuster Queue for some time. I now have two more movies to watch for Halloween.

The fine print under the $3 DVD ad says "Compare to $5" - If that means anything.

Not very surprising, my closest store has LOTS of DVDs left from older batches but nothing I want to add to my collection even at $3.

Paramount no longer releases the Peanuts DVDs, Warner acquired the home video rights in 2008. In addition to the single-disc releases (usually containing 2 television specials, like what Paramount did), they have also released three 2-disc sets each with six TV specials in chronological order: "The Peanuts 1960's Collection" and "The Peanuts 1970's Collection" (Volume 1 and Volume 2). Well worth picking up when you see them go on sale (I have seen them occasionally drop to $10-14 each @ Amazon and Walmart). The Warner releases are also remastered and look MUCH better than the old Paramount discs did.

I might believe that if they didn't put 40% off. To be honest, I don't know, I guess we will find out soon enough.

Recent finds:
Monty Python and Holy Grail CE - $5 (has been $8 and $6 in the past)
Starter Wife mini-series - $5 (has been $8 in the past)

The ad says: "$3 Each Save 40% Compare To $5" which implies these are "regular priced elsewhere at $5". Under that it says "DVD Movies. $5"

The way it's layed out indicates nothing is reduced from the regular BL price(s) but that they have $3 & $5 movies of which the $3 titles would be $5 if purchased at another store such as WM.

I hope I'm wrong because there are a couple of $5 titles I'd get for $3 (yeah, odd that $2 makes the difference) but $5 is more than I feel they're worth.

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Went all the way up to the other Big Lots in Knoxville, TN. Looked and looked for any Friday The 13th DVD's and found no trace of them. T.T Saw a big stack of My Stepmother Is An Alien. Why won't they release the widescreen version of that one?

Oddly, I saw ...

Star Trek: Nemesis FS $3
Star Trek: Nemesis WS $5

So you have to pay two extras dollars for widescreen? Didn't Ross have the 2-Disc widescreen version for like $5.99?

I left empty handed.

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

^"Star Trek: Nemesis" FS has also been $5 in the past year. They just can't make up their mind on that one! I started to take a $3 FS and $5 WS to the register and try to talk them into giving me the WS for the FS price but my overall dislike of ST:TNG got the best of me and I didn't do it...

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Went to my local BigLots yesterday, with the exception of the Halloween DVD display they had, they haven't gotten a new batch of DVDs in for the last 3 weeks or so. This is the store that normally has the best selection, don't know what the deal is, all the good ones must be going to you guys because all they have here is the same old crap. Still no Rose Red either... -kd5-
