Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)
Seems to me like BigLots needs to get fresh batches of DVDs in their stores, the ones they have now (with the exception of their pitiful little Halloween displays) are the same ones they've had for about the last 2 or 3 weeks (and some of those they've had since I started looking several months ago). And they need to quit with the wrapping 2 and/or 3 DVDs together. The pairs they have wrapped should've been $5, not $6, to be any kind of a deal, and the triple wraps are crap. Starting to get tired of going to the 3 local BigLots that we have around here and leaving empty handed. -kd5-

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)
I was under the impression that BL really is not fully in control of their DVD inventory. That they get 'batches' dumped to their warehouse at unpredictable intervals. At least that is what one manager told me..
Regarding the double/triple wrapping - can't say if they come like that to BL or not.. I HAVE seen these 2 wrappings at other places (walmart, Kmart) so it may not be them that are doing these....

Regarding someone posting he got 20% off Buzz Club Rewards on top of the 20% off coupon, that's a big surprise because I had asked about this before and was told there is supposed to be a blackout period (i.e. supposedly nobody can use the 20% off Rewards on a 20% off coupon day).
I'd be interested in hearing more about how BL works, but one thing I'm almost 100% certain of is that BL doesn't call up distributors and ask for particular titles at a discount. Instead, I assume that distributors call BL and say they have a batch of DVDs they want to get rid of (provide them some sort of breakdown of titles and quantities included), and BL works out a price with the distributor for those. Then BL divvies the batch up between stores in the country according to some criteria. So, if that's true, then BL has no control over which movies they carry or when they get new ones. They basically carry what distributors don't want any more. This is why I probably only go to BL once a month... I get tired wasting 15 minutes (that's about how long it takes me to eyeball the top or spine of every DVD on all the shelves). It would be much faster if I didn't have to dig, but they always pile too much on top.
Which double/triple wrapping is that? You mean multi-packs which have an outer wrapping over the individual DVD wrapping? I'd consider that normal and preferable because you could then buy and separate out the DVDs and give someone a shrinkwrapped one. I strongly dislike the multi-packs unless they have a substantial discount (most don't have any discount). Then I found out that a few of the discounted ones (such as Blue Crush/Honey/Josie) contained stripped down versions (i.e. no extras) of 2 of the 3 movies because instead of double-siding them (i.e. DVD-18) they decided to repress them. I wonder if they did the same thing on Mystery Men/Reality Bites/... (forgot the 3rd title) pack?

I am also certain BigLots stores have no control over what DVDs they get, that more than likely deals are made at the corporate level and then, as you say, divvied up amongst the stores. As far as unpredictable intervals go, one manager would only say that trucks arrive on a specific day of each week and that they don't always get DVDs on each truck, so you're probably right about that.
Apparently Corporate hasn't been given any decent deals to jump on, so trickling down to us has been pretty much non-existent. Unless they're sitting on the next batch waiting for all the current sales to end. I could see that, if they really wanted to thin out the DVDs they've had sitting at their stores for several months (that apparently nobody wants). -kd5-

Pickings getting slim these days. Picked up Superman III just for a laugh. Haven't seen it in 20 years. Won't put it on the shelf with the others, it's a "blemish". Goes into the "box of shame".
These 2-packs are weird. Some odd combinations. Sure, you see a 2 pack of John Wayne, but then you see Elvis' "Girl Happy" paired with "Little Children"!

FYI to all, I noticed on the receipt for my Saturday purchase that all returns are valid until January now (the 11th, I believe) for the holiday season...

I brought up the "Brokeback Mountain"/"Cruising" two-pack a couple weeks ago. You have to wonder if some of these are someone's idea of a sick joke.

They also may be holding on to the next batches until the 20% off deal is over. They are likely really wanting to clear dead stock right now. The stores in Wa state seem to be sitting on a lot of mediocre titles.

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)
I found a new batch of 5.00 titles. I'm starting to get the feeling that Big Lots is raising the price to 5.00. Cause a lot of these titles were either 3.00 before, or they would have been 3.00 if they were in some of the older batches. For instance, they had The Trouble With Harry for 5.00. This would have been 3.00 before. Also I saw the New Karate Kid (the one with Hillary Swank) for 5.00. And a bunch of older full screen releases were mixed in too. They did have a bunch of Monty Python and the Holy Grail collectors versions for 5.00.
I ended up picking these up:
Best in Show
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
The Bridge on the River Kwai 2 Disc SE
Risky Business (newer release with extras)
Friday the 13th Part 8 newer release with extras
Friday the 13th Part 5 newer release with extras

Stopped at an out of town Big Lots today and finally found 2 more of the Busby Berkeley movies. Picked up Varsity Show and Hollywood Hotel packaged together for 6 bucks. Just 5 more of them to find to have both sets. sigh.
Also picked up the 60's james bond spoof casino royale for 3 bucks.

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)
my BL just got a HUGE new batch.. unfortunately, a lot of more copies of the same things, but I did see the complete season 1 of the Incredible Hulk, and Season 1 of Law and Order: criminal intent. These were $8 - but I got the L&O set - love that show.
a couple of new individual titles, but nothing from the 30's or 40's - which I was hoping for...
and still not It's Alive Trilogy.

I had bought All Mine to Give and Holiday Affair a month ago.
Has anyone seen It Happened on 5th Avenue and Blossoms in the Dust? These 2 will complete the Warner Brothers Classic Holiday Collection, Vol. 2.
I have all The Warner Brothers Classic Holiday Collection, Vol. 1. It has A Christmas Carol, Christmas in Connecticut, Boys Town and The Singing Nun.

I bought It Happened on 5th Avenue months ago too... with all these $5 movies now popping up, it looks like I will be buying a lot less than I was in the past
