Re: Big Lots Part 5
I know. I was actually thinking about offering him a dollar for the Tales From the Crypt Seasons but kinda felt he wasn't in the mood to talk after just getting a big dose of reality. BTW, To the people that are complaining and think Big lots is unfair: Big Lots stuff is "priced to move" and if one person hoards and buys up everything, why should Big Lots care? "Boo Hoo, little Timmy can't sell his Looney Tunes set on eBay because some TOOL just bought all of em'". Hate to break it too you, life is one large rat race, you either get a piece of the cheese, or you get jack ****.

I am sure the guy learned a very valuable lesson in economics, that, to a lesser extent, could be applied to the housing market situation as well. You try to buy something low and sell high, but if everybody is doing it with the exact same thing, some people will be stuck sitting on their initial investment, or eventually taking a loss. Big Lots teaching economics? Who knew!!

Re: Big Lots Part 5
So today I stopped by F.Y.E. to use a 30% off coupon and just by happenstance I see a person I recognized from Big Lots (hoarded almost all the $3.00 seasons btw) the day before with the "20% additional credit brown bag" nearly busting full of DVD's in his hand. I pretend to peruse the cheap DVD bin so I can see how much he gets and watch as the guy unloads all the Big Lots usual suspects; 4 seasons of Lois and Clark, Flintstones seasons 1 and 2, Murphy Brown, Tales From the Crypt seasons 1 and 2, and Popeye. The guy asks the cashier if he can look around while she tallies everything up and she says it is OK. I then watch with the utmost amount of pleasure as nearly every single season scans at A WHOPPING 5 CENTS!! I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT!! The guy has no idea! I did the math in my head and realized with the "brown bag" increase added in he was getting 7.5 cents for nearly every season (I think one may have scanned at 8.00 or something so 12.00 for that one). When the guy shows back up for the total it is something like $12.75 for EVERYTHING!! The cashier tells him and he literally looked like a ghost. He starts arguing with the cashier about how that low of a trade in value is impossible. The cashier states that they must have an overabundant amount of those particular seasons so the guy takes all of his opened Big Lots merchandise and stomps out. This was my first great experience I have ever had at an F.Y.E.

Regardless of how it all plays out, I will get my favorite DVD titles at great prices because DVD is slowly being replaced by Blu-ray and with the economy the way it is, companies like MGM are dumping their excess DVD inventories by the truckload. It is only a matter of time.

What I don't understand is why it was all opened? To make it "look" used?
Are these people that naive? Do they think they go to the only Big Lots in the country? Surely if they catch wind of these deals online they have to know everyone else is doing the same thing.

I wonder how long it's going to take until we see fights breaking out at big lots like the black friday brawls....
Also, how many of you plan to break up the Looney Tunes set if you find it? I mean, I want the box, the pins, and Volume 4 & 5, but already have Volume 1-3, so I plan on trading them if I find it.

Re: Big Lots Part 5
Just wanted to see if anyone here is from south new mexico or west texas (el paso) as I am currently in the unfortunate habit of visiting 3-5 big lots daily. I could post my finds if anyone is interested. Otherwise I will just post when I find something I havent seen listed prior.

I will try to stop in the St. Peters store tomorrow afternoon. I am going to the Mayhem fest so I don't have a lot of time. I will post if I see anything.

Re: Big Lots Part 5
While I find it hilarious that the guy that went to FYE got his big dose of reality, the Big Lots sale is hardly the reason that most of his stuff was worth so little at FYE. Things like Lois and Clark, Tales of the Crypt, and the bulk of everything else that is at BL right now has been out for awhile, and the economy has been in the dumper for about two years. I'd bet those sets were worth nominal amounts, even before Big Lots started getting this avalanche DVD's.
I'm pretty sure that people that a lot of people that owned those sets realized that they were sitting on the shelves, unwatched or not, and a few bucks was better than nothing. As FYE's inventory increases, the relative worth of those sets decreases to the amounts they are at now. Compound that with the relatively high prices of FYE's used product and season sets like the ones previously mentioned accumulate pretty quickly.

I hope there is something on the shelf on Saturday afternoon, the next chance I get to visit my local BL. I wish I still lived in Grand Rapids, which has 3.

Re: Big Lots Part 5
Hi everyone. I've been reading the Big Lots threads for awhile now, and I've finally decided to post.
I'm wondering if there's anyone else here in the San Antonio area. I can't decide if I'm just always too late to get the good stuff, or if we just don't get it at all. I did see some Popeye sets today at one store, but that was it.
I ended up getting a few movies:
Austin Powers in Goldmember
Overnight Delivery
Good Night and Good Luck
Oh, I want that Looney Tunes set so bad. I think I should just give up now rather than drive all over town looking for it. I'll just keep telling myself, "It's not worth it!" Yeah, that'll work...

The only thing that would've really fetched money in trade-in would be the $10 sets.
You could've made a decent return on Amazon Marketplace or something with the other sets, but trade-in value is pretty low to begin with.

Re: Big Lots Part 5
I wonder if there will be a resurgence of a lot of these titles when the speculators don't get the profits they hoped for and return stock back to the store. That is, if they're still unopened.

Re: Big Lots Part 5
If anyone in Sacramento is looking for Flintstones Season 2, as of 3:45 on Tuesday the Stockton Blvd store had about 10 of them sealed- I left them all there since I already got one at another store 2 days ago. They also had one Season 3 of Six Feet Under, and a bunch of "New Scooby Doo Movies" which seem to have been there since this thing started- funny I thought those would go the fastest.
Would anyone in the area be kind enough to let me know where I might find Tales From The Crypt or Josie and the Pussycats? That's the last one I REALLY want that I haven't found yet- also trying to get Flintstones #1 or anything from 5 and after, but only if they're still sealed.
Haven't been to the flea markets in a while- I used to hit at least one weekly years ago when I was collecting CED videodiscs, but now that I've got all of them and have less money to blow I haven't been in a long time. I'll have to go back soon, and if I see anything that's obviously from Big Lots I'll offer 'em 3 bucks! I still think Big Lots wouldn't have any problem moving merchandise if they imposed a limit of one of each title per customer. If I run into anyone buying multiples to resell, it'll take everything I've got to not strangle them!
Glad to hear that FYE isn't paying anything for these titles at least- it seems like some stores that buy stuff from people don't know when deals like this come up.
And I gotta say- God help us if Big Lots ever gets porn DVDs!

I have heard unconfirmed reports of Magilla. I haven't seen it, though.
The only Tom & Jerry I have seen are two-pack bundles of recent direct-to-video Tom & Jerry movies (Magic Ring, Blast Off To Mars, Shiver Me Whiskers) or the "best of" single discs (Greatest Chases, Halloween Hijinks).
