Re: Big Lots Part 5

Anything new in St. Louis area ? I've been to Granite City Big Lots! and they didn't have any sets at all. Not even the first wave of $6 sets.
I hope we will get those new sets soon. I really wanna get Tales from the crypt seasons.

I wonder if he knows that there are 7 seasons lol!
I'm sure an craigslist of ebay listing will pop up. Tales from the crypt ALL SIX SEASONS!
whatever!
This is typical of the greedy little bastards.

I may have been late to the store last weekend but this weekend will be different because I intend to hit all three of my local stores at the same time when they open with the help of friends and a little insider information and will stay as long as necessary to ensure I do not miss the restock when it happens.

I'll be damned if a reseller/hoarder/trader is going to screw me out of my goal again.

Re: Big Lots Part 5

And a good day to you all. I have visited three Big Lot stores in the southwest Florida area and have managed to find a number of titles that do not appear to be on any of the studio master lists on the Part 4 thread. They are:

Warner Brothers
Hallelujah! (1929, King Vidor)
Of Unknown Origin (1983, George P. Cosmatos)
Ride the High Country (1962, Sam Peckinpah)
A Stranger is Watching (1982, Sean Cunningham)
Where Eagles Dare (1968, Brain Hutton)

20th Century Fox
Forty Guns (1957, Samuel Fuller)

The best part about those Warner titles is that none of the UPC's were slashed. And I apologize if these titles have been mentioned before. Other than that, I am still waiting for the Tales from the Crypt, Flintstones, and Looney Toons sets to show up down here. However, there are a ton of Night Court S1, Pinky and the Brain Volume 2, Joey S1, OC S2, Dukes of Hazzard S5, and a whole bunch of the NFL Films collections, except for the Super Bowl mega collection.

Has anyone here watched the first season of Night Court? I wasn't sure of how well it would hold up after all of these years, but I was happy to find that it is still quite hilarious. The second season is only twelve dollars at Amazon since its part of their current TV / box set sale.

Nothing new here... That or some scumbag reseller jacked it all.

If form holds from last week, the new sets will be available here Tuesday evening of next week. The Big Lots! ad starts on Wednesday, not Sunday... To all those expecting them to be available this weekend... That's a BIG YMMV.

Had I known that the HB sets were going to be this popular then I would have grabbed one of each to trade last week. All I want is Tales From The Crypt.

I'll check again Thursday but if I come up empty again I'm not going to bother until next Tuesday. Unless, of course, someone posts here that they found stock in Lexington. Then I'm out the door...

sure. why are we getting TV series for $3-6 at Big Lots? the economy is quite bad. people are cutting back on non essential purchases. the stores like Best Buy couldn't sell these for $30+ so tons went unsold and ended up in the buy out store.

i buy my groceries at Krogers because they have tons of generic Kroger brands for 1/2 the price of name brands. household supplies are bought at places like WalMart & KMart. again mostly generic brands. i buy most clothes at Target. they have some nice Target brands that are similar to the name brands but a lot cheaper. the discount type stores & fast food restaurants do well in a poor economy. the full price stores & 'yuppie' type restaurants suffer.

Not positive where the store was, I am visiting St Augustine but we where driving around. It may have been south of St Augustine. It's my GF's families territory around here. I'm a south Florida guy.

Ya know what's funny. Is if there was a "hoarder" stereotype this guy would fit it 100%. Did anyone see that flick starring Jarred Leto as the guy who shot John Lennon? Looked like that guy...

Re: Big Lots Part 5

I visited the Colonie, NY store today, first time in a few weeks, they had most of the Hanna Barbara sets for $3 and lots of $6 sets left. The only Flintstones seasons I didn't find are 4th & 6th.

All The Flintstones sets but S3 are not shrinkwrapped, which sucks because it's almost impossible to get the price tag off w/o tearing the cover (except maybe season 1 due to it having a plastic slipcover).

Also picked up The Pebbles and Bamm-bamm show Complete Series, The Best of The New Scooby-Doo Movies, and Full House S5-S6.

No $10 sets found.

I'll probably return later this week to see what's new.

Just curious, has anyone around the Orange County(CA) area seen any of the $10 sets? I feel like everyone but the West Coast is getting those sets.

Re: Big Lots Part 5

Does that huge Super Bowl set count as a $10 set? I saw one of those at the last Big Lots I went to on Sunday but didn't pick it up.

If that's a $10 set then we do get them out here. Still have never seen Looney Tunes, though. Or Powerpuff Girls.

Re: Big Lots Part 5

Sir Brian T, our duel is postponed - No Looney Tunes, but gawd help me I left the gym and the automotive had taken me to BL once again.

Some more items had dribbled out of the back and I picked up:
Flintstones S3,4,5 (every copy of S5 wasn't shrinkwrapped, but had all the discs therein)
Wacky Races
Batman TAS v.4
Sam Kinnison Unleashed, though I felt odd paying $6 for it and not $3

What's sad is that I'm getting bits of sets and now foam at the mouth to fill in the gaps wanting Flintstone S1, Batman TAS 1-3, Lois and Clark S4, etc. Stuff I never had before, but at $3 I can't resist. I'm not an addict, twitch, twitch. I think I hear the siren call of BL and may actually go over at lunch tomorrow to see if more show up. Ah sweet music to my ears....

They did have Josey and the Pussycats and Pebbles and Bam Bam but I resisted their sweet music and left them in the bin. Can I resist them tomorrow? I must be strong, twitch, twitch.....

Re: Big Lots Part 5

Stopped at the one in NEPA. No Tales From The Crypt but they had a ton of sets I could not pass up for on the price:

Lakers Dynasty Boxset - $6
Superfriends Season One - $3
Dastardly & Muttley Complete Series - $3
Popeye The Sailor 1933-1938 - $3
Birdman And Galaxy Trio Complete Series - $3

Being a devout capitalist, I've been somewhat defending the hoarders but the story that ScissorPuppy relates gets my dander up. This hoarder fellow should've been hoisted on his own petard. At least ScissorPuppy told him to go and have sexual relations with himself .

I guess I have to go back. They had nothing when I went last week. How many displays did you see? I only saw one DVD display.

Re: Big Lots Part 5

Ok, So I did a check to see all the big lots in the area I am visiting tomorrow. Within 100 miles there are 7 Big Lots. I plan on hitting them all! I'm on vacation and we planned on driving around anyways, so these will just be stops on route to other stuff.

My goal is
Tales from the crypt S1-S7
The Ben Stiller show

If I don't get all of these, I will be offering a very generous trade in the traders forum.
Stay tuned...

I don't think we still have any confirmation that Crypt 7 have been found. Same with Animaniacs or Pinky and the Brain 3.

Yeah, I'm not a complainer as far as people trying to make a buck. But there comes a point where it's screwed up.

I understand that shopping for dvds at Big Lots is a luck of the draw situation. And there will never be enough of certain titles to go around to everyone, but ya know leave at least ONE of the 6 copies for someone else!

And even after I offered to double (roughly) his money, that wasn't enough!
I've got no problem with capitalism, but greed ruins it. The funny thing is, if he puts these on ebay, after charges I doubt he'll make the 30 bucks I offered him. Hell, if he said $45 I probably would have done it.

I don't have time to search, but I could have swore I read of a few people finding it, but that it was the rare one.

Anyways, I'd be happy with S1-S6

Re: Big Lots Part 5

As of Tuesday evening 7/21 this is what I have to report for these stores:

Durham on Hwy 55 - severely picked over; doesn't appear to have had any restock recently.

Raleigh, NC on New Bern - same as Durham; severely picked over; no signs of restock

Raleigh, NC on 64 Business - lots of stuff; tons of Popeye and Dukes of Hazard; nothing really exceptional, but lots of stuff; probably restocked since Sunday's sale.

Raleigh, NC on Western Blvd - severely picked over; lots of Wacky Races, but priced at $6. A new cardboard display had tons of the James Bond films...

Cary, NC - severely picked over; no new inventory...in fact, big table that had $3 DVD's is gone.

Do we have a volunteer who can check in on the Cary store either tomorrow or Thursday? My spidey-sense tells me they may be the one...

Peter

I checked Turfland last night and saw nothing. I guess no one likes "Life Goes On" Season 1. I'll keep checking there every other day, especially this weekend. Its like 2 minutes from my house (and no its no in a bad neighborhood.)

There is a lot of talk here on people complaining about the people working and shopping at Big Lots. Heck, I've considered getting a part time job there to get dibs on DVDs and the employee discount. Yes, I think I have a problem.
