I hit both stores yesterday, too (7/16) around 10-11am. Swa pretty much all the same stuff you saw, except I got the only Wacky Races set that Turfland had. Also, they had Flintstones S1 and 3, but all their copies of S1 were unsealed (S3 not so). Buncha Popeyes and Tracy Takes On there. Found a Yucko the Clown: That Damn Show disc at Eastland (with Dukes S4 and those same Flintstones sets).

Asked the stock clerk at Turfland about the DVD sets. He said "got more in the back, but I'm 'not allowed' to put them out until they sell out. There's enough out there anyway, though, right?".

Also... Richmond, KY. Don't bother if you're seeking the newly reported sets. A new MGM display though... Nothing I wanted.

NO Tales From The Crypt... And so, my ER quest comes to a close and my TFTC quest begins. Argh.
Stopped at Richmond on the way to Lexington (around 9.30). Was still seriously picked over, but it was apparent they had done at least a little restocking, as I was able to find ER seasons 2 (saw three copies) and 7 (I got the only one). They had also gotten a season of Dallas, which I hadn't seen any of in Richmond before, as well as the Lakers set.

Called that store's manager today. She said they had more in the back, but weren't going to be putting them out until late next week (Thurs) to coincide with the new ad.

Oh, well. At least I know not to expect anything new there for awhile beforehand.

Hit 2 Tacoma Wa stores today. One the manager swore they got no dvd's this week. The other had pretty much all of the $3 boxes, but no Looney Toons & no complete Roots.

That makes perfect sense as far as marketing goes:

Printed ad on July 12
Buzz Club 20% coupon event on July 19
Printed ad on July 26

YMMV since folks have seen the following types of stocking behaviour at various Biglot stores...

Some stores throw everything out on the sales floor at once without paying attention to the ad date.
Some stores just fill-in the empty spaces on the wire rack with more stock in the backroom.
Some stores will not put anything out until the official ad date.

Hmmm....

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Did a run today around St. Louis.

Kingshighway: A restock of older box sets. Only thing new was a couple of copies of Nightmares & Dreamscapes.

Lemay Ferry Road: Nothing new. In fact, the shelves looked depleted.

Watson Road: Some new stuff and the first appearance of the $3 box sets. Only saw The War at Home S1 & Popeye Vol. 1. They also had a slew of New Line Cinema titles for $3.

I picked up:

Nightmares & Dreamscapes
Super Friends Vol. 2
Sugar & Spice
Jackie Chan's First Strike
A Prairie Home Companion
Mr. Nice Guy
Poison Ivy

Gonna hit the stores again Sunday.

Stopped into the Springfield, NJ Big Lots around 1PM for the third day in a row... still nothing new! How much longer do I have to wait for Looney Tunes and Hanna-Barbera, this is torture! haha.

Went into mine last night and some new stuff had appeared (Tracey Takes on S1, Tons of Flintstones S2, and Popeye v.1). Of course, someone could've swooped in and taken and the $10 box sets, etc. Talked to the lady at the counter and I asked if other stuff was in the back and should be out today. Went back at lunch and it was just Flintstones and Tracey, Popeye had all vanished. Durn tease .

Actually I'm happy to buy this stuff but it seems to give credence to WB seeming to say that animation, television, and classic films don't sell as their output of those seems to slow down and moving towards the Archive program.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Has anyone seen their Big Lots receiving new shipments of the WB TV sets? I've been to all the Big Lots in Las Vegas/Henderson multiple times in the past three weeks and never saw the BD sets of Nip/Tuck and Smallville along with not being able to find Seasons 5 and 6 of Dallas (only two I need to complete the collection up to this point).

So these 10.00 box sets are in the electronics section? I never thought to look there - I just looked at the four-sided rack they had.

I also grabbed a Jacques Costeau collection - exploring rivers or something like that...not sure if that's been reported (this was at the Cary, NC store). It was $3. --Peter

Re: Big Lots Part 4

In Derry today, No new boxsets but I found some new dvds from one of the recent drug store clearances, on the shelf with the other usual drug store clearance junk.
They were all marked $6.09 and the current discount is 20%, so I think it's 20% off of 6.09, not totally sure. They had only a few titles, pretty new ones though, I don't think they were pre-viewed:
Bedtime Stories (WS)
Twilight (2-Disc SE) w/slipcover
Quantum Of Solace (1-disc)
Marley and Me (1-disc)
I, Robot (FS)

Re: Big Lots Part 4

I swung by the Columbus, OH store on Sawmill Road on my lunch today. Good thing I am thorough. Found the $10 Looney Tunes two-movie set, some Flintstones sets, and the Roots Complete Collection set. Nothing I was interested in, but I looked behind the Roots set to see if there was anything else.....and lo and behold, there it was....1 copy of the big Looney Tunes Golden Collection 1-5 box. Someone had made a slit in the packaging and helped themselves to the pin set, but who cares. Still can't believe I found one, and still can't believe it was only $10. I saw the individual volume 5 at Best Buy just yesterday for $59.99! Insane.

I'm convinced the northeast never got the Hanna-Barbera and Looney Tunes sets. Does anyone have evidence against this?

I went to 2 stores this morning. The first one at 9am sharp. While talking to the lady at the register (they had some of the new stuff Tales Crypt, Flintstones and Superman/Reeves) I mentioned what I would really like to find is the $10 Looney Tunes 1-5 set (me) and the $10 Imax set (wife). The morning supervisor heard me say that and said "Hold on, I'll check in the back for you". When he returned he handed me the LT set sealed w/pins and said "I didn't see the Imax set but here's an NFL set if you want it". He then handed me the $10 NFL Americas Game 40 disc Superbowl set.

I've never had an employee check in the back before. Usually they say everything they have is out on the floor. Probably had to do with the fact I was literally the only person in the store.

I usually don't get this lucky. Hope I don't fall and break an ankle or something later today.

I thought that store was closing and they weren't restocking? I'm also in NJ but a bit of a distance from the Clifton big lots. I only went once and found really nothing.

Made that call Wednesday. Stopped in 3 different times yesterday and the only new set I saw out was the Tracey Ullman one. Today, I pop in during the middle of the afternoon and there's a brand new table set up that had several gaping empty spots, along with a section of $10 sets on a separate shelf just inside the entrance. Plenty of Roots, NFL sets and a couple of Kubrick sets but no IMAX or big Looney Tunes set, just one or two single Golden Collections. I hope I didn't miss out on my window to find the Looney Tunes set.

That's what I heard too but the store is giving no real evidence of it closing. Like no "store closing" or major sales signs. I really hope that store stays open, it seems a lot of people shop there not just for movies so it's odd to hear of them closing.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

These are some seriously insane bargains. I love it!

I picked up some extras of a few of the cartoon sets and plan to donate them this Christmas to local childrens hospitals and church toy drives. I am sure it will brighten up some needy or sick kids holidays to see Scooby, Popeye, Superman or Tom & Jerry. I hope other DVD Talkers consider doing the same.

I don't think there is any Big Lots store in Burbank. Was she referring to the North Hollywood store on Vineland?

As far as the Mill Creek 50 sets go, has anyone seen HISTORIC CLASSICS? That's one I would like since it has many vintage TV shows on it with original commercials.
