Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2
So I went to WM this morning.
They had some of new titles in the $4 display as others mentioned earlier.
I picked up the following.
The Odd Couple
Sunset Blvd.
Stalag 17
However when I went to the cashier only The Odd Couple rang up for $4.
Sunset rang up for $13.00
Stalag 17 rang up for $13.72
I was able to get Sunset Blvd. for $4 because there was another one in the display.
But Stalag was the last one there and they wouldn't give it to me for $4, so I said no to that one.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2
found a real nice find tonight. there is a tv show that was on the fox family channel a few years back called "haunted", it is a horror anthology show like twilight zone or tales from the darkside but specializing in ghost type stories, narrated by charactor actor rip torn and had some good writing and descent special effects. the show ran for 40 half hour episodes. there are 2 different compilations of the show that you can pick up at walmart, both at very good prices. there is a 16 episode version on 1 flipper disc with 8 episodes on each side that you can find in the $5 bin, but, there is another version with the full 40 episode series run that you can find in the regular dvd aisle, this one is on 2 flippers and sells for $9. if the show sounds interesting to you, you might want to pay the extra $4 and get the full series, rather than buy the sampler for $5 and then still want to buy the full series if you like the show, plus, the full series version has a cool metallic looking inkjob on the case.

Found a few copies of The Spirited Warrior Trilogy but wasnt sure if it was worth getting. Anybody seen any of these and recommend it? Was in the $5 section.

Hit four Wal-marts in the last week, the two that were recently remodeled didn't have any $4 dvds "dumps" and the other two did, one of them almost nothing but countless copies of 15 or so titles. At the "good" one I bought:
Ringu 4 disc
Sunset Blvd Centennial
Roman Holiday Centennial
Heaven Can Wait
Airplane II
Saw:
The Rainmaker (Kate Hepburn)
Lolita (Sue Lyons)
Elvis double feature with King Creole
The Heartbreak Kid with bonus CD
most of the frequently mentioned titles

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2
Looked for Ringu in two stores and nothing there.
Did notice a couple of pretty good bargains that I hadn't seen before.
1. Star Trek, the animated series for $14.95. Haven't seen it anywhere near that cheap before.
2. Deadwood seasons 1-3 for $29.99.
3. Several Shaw Brothers films for $9.99 that are usually around $20. Martial Arts mini series with 34 episodes for $34.99. Normally hard to find, let alone for this great price. I believe they are around 16 hours of tv.

I finally got fed up looking for the damned Ringu set at my local WM. Just broke down and ordered a new copy for $10 shipped from a third party seller on Amazon.
Still the cheapest I've seen it online - and it certainly beats making any more fruitless trips looking for it.

I just got back from the Torrance CA store and picked these up for $5 each
Tales From The Crypt / Vault of Horror double
Blacula / Screm, Blacula, Scream double
Halloween 4 / Hallowen 5 double Divimax edition
I almost got Happy Birthday To Me but I remember not caring for it much back in the day. Of course I'm older now and with a good transfer who knows. If it was a double I woulda snatched it for sure though!

A word of warning. I bought one of the Silent Hill/The Dark 2 movie packs for $5. It listed both of them as being Anamorphic. When I opened it, it contained the full screen version of Silent Hill. I put it in the dvd player and sure enough, it said modified to fit your screen. I'll be taking this back.

I do find it fascinating that for such a major international chain, store policies vary so much. I asked the mgr where were the Halloween sales, and he looked at me as if I was from planet mars. "well, they are mixed in with everything else. no special sale.'
And he was right. 99% of the movies are now behind locked glass cages (?), and no special 'scary movie' sale - outside all the F13 for $9 (if you call that a sale).
That was it!

In my experience, stores that are new or have had remodels in the last 2 years or so tend to have shitty DVD sections, presumably because they don't like dump bins or ratty looking cardboard display shelves.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2
once in awhile I pick up a blind buy that turns out really well, and I just got what I felt was one of the best $5 dvd bargains in awhile. this is a tv series called daybreak which has been showing up in the $5 bins. it is a noir-ish series that is somewhat of a cross between 24 and groundhog day, about a cop that is framed for the murder of a district attorney and is stuck in a time loop where he repeats the same day over and over trying to set things right. it has a beautiful widescreen transfer as well as episode commentaries. I was surprised as how good it looked with the full series run of 13 42min episodes spread over 2 discs, which is about 4 solid hours on each disc. its is very good well written television at an even better price, produced by touchstone which is a disney subsidiary. I am surprised disney let the rights to this show get out so cheap, but it is a 13 episode show that got cancelled after only 6 episodes were shown on tv. just finished watching the pilot episode, walked away feeling extremely entertained and like I really got my moneys worth, wih 12 more episodes left to watch.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2
one walmart in my area, that is in a neighborhood with a large latin population, used to have 2 dump bins, one english language, and one spanish language. they recently combined the 2 dump bins into 1 and I find it extremely annoying to have to dig through all of the spanish language films. I did however find some really cool santo double features that I would have bought if they were dubbed into english. for those who dont know, santo is somewhat of a mexican superhero who is a masked mexican wrestler who defends the world by battling against everything from vampires and zombies to aliens.

I picked up Sunset Boulevard (Centennial Collection) at the local Walmart yesterday. They still have 7 copies left, and also 8 or 9 copies of Roman Holiday. I'm still looking for The Odd Couple and Stalag 17.
