Here is the lucky DVDtalker that found the Jawbreaker WS/FS flipper...(message #773 in this thread)

I guess it's like the Sweet and Lowdown WS/FS flipper, if you look long enough, you will find it...maybe....

The collection doesn't include commentaries (if that matters to you)

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

The big lots here in St. Louis on Kingshighway has a large stack of DVDs recently put out on the sales floor (this week). They have Grand Hotel, THX and many of the Warner Gangster Films. Oh also the 2 disc Rebel without a Cause.

I went last night and they had finally gotten some of the new titles in. The first Jawbreaker I picked up was the ws/fs flipper. I then checked the remaining 25 or so copies and all of them were fullscreen. I went ahead and bought the disc, along with about 15 other titles, but it doesn't really look like something I'd be interested in. I still haven't found Big Red One or Rebel Without a Cause, so maybe I'll put it up for trade later. So there are a few out there.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

My closest store not only hasn't gotten the Warner Gangster/Space Jam batch, but we're getting close to a month since they received ANY dvd's. The 2nd closest store to me did get them, but my contact their mistakenly told me they did not, so by the time I dropped in, they were thoroughly picked over. I think I got 2 discs out of that batch total.

This show will always have a special place in my heart. Here's why.

The year was 1965, and I was in the First Grade at the time. I was living in the Detroit Area, and the first thing I would do upon getting home from school would be to turn on the TV to watch the Bozo Show. On this afternoon I turned on the TV only to discover Bozo was being pre-empted by a Presidential News Conference! All three networks, nothing else to watch! Right!

WRONG! About 15 miles away was Windsor, Ontario and they had a Television Station as well, and they DIDN'T show the President! (I was too young to realise they were a Foreign Country at the time!) Anyhow, I turn to their station and what do I see, these Charactures flying all kinds of strange aircraft and operating all these goofy gadgets as they go around rescuing people in disaster areas around the World. I was Hooked! This will go down as the first Science-Fiction Show I ever watched. When this show came out on DVD a few years ago I was more than happy to pay $100,00 to get it!

PS A year later they took this show off the air, but a friend gave me the word there was a new "Space Show" on, one that dealt with this crew that flew a "Flying Saucer with a bunch of tubes sticking out of it, and their crew had this wierd Alien with "Pointy Ears"!

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

Found a new batch of stuff yesterday at the Seekonk, Mass. store. There were a number of documentaries (?) from Topics Entertainment. All fullscreen, 2-disc with slipcovers. The titles I saw were...
Ultimate Drifting
http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Drift...494812&sr=1-39
America's Fighter Jets
http://www.amazon.com/Americas-Fight...494905&sr=1-80
Predators
http://www.amazon.com/Predators/dp/B...494728&sr=1-18
Rail America
http://www.amazon.com/Rail-America/d...3437005&sr=1-3
Sharks
http://www.amazon.com/Sharks/dp/B000...494812&sr=1-43
and a Motorcross one that I can't remember definitely which one it was.

Also, there were a number of Legend Films titles consisting of both documentaries and movies. The ones I saw were...
Lucy's Really Lost Moments
http://www.amazon.com/Lucys-Really-M...3495667&sr=1-1
The Jackie Robinson Story
http://www.amazon.com/Jackie-Robinso...3495426&sr=1-3
Elvis Thru the Years
http://www.amazon.com/Elvis-Thru-Yea...3495553&sr=1-1
The Little Shop of Horrors
http://www.amazon.com/Little-Shop-Ho...3436434&sr=1-4
and a double feature of The Killer Shrews/The Giant Gila Monster
http://www.amazon.com/Killer-Shrews-...AA0T91W5E2WCHE

There were two different versions of the Shrews/Gila Monster double feature listed on Amazon. One described as having a RESTORED version of the black and white film, the other still has the black and white version, just no mention of being restored or not. Both covers look the same, so I provided the link to the basic one for now. If I find information clarifying exactly which one is which, I'll edit this post accordingly.

All of these are $3.00. As soon as I'm done posting this, I will add the two new companies AND their respective titles to the Master List. Happy Hunting !!!

Have a look at Legend Films. And beware colorization.
Not to say it's his call, but the "Chief Content Producer" is former MST3Ker Mike Nelson.

The bar code of the one I bought last October at Big Lots was 9601980340. Here is a link to DVDempire- http://www.dvdempire.com/Exec/v4_ite...rchID=15712508
The color tranfers are very respectable for this 2-disk double feature of movies so bad they are fun.

I really had no interest in Jawbreaker until this thread, I found a flipper at FYE used, $4.99 -40%... $3.00, but it was a floater, I opened it before purchase & it was scratched to hell so I passed...

If I remember correctly, Ray Harryhausen is endorsing Legend. That's worth something in my book.....

I don't recall seeing anyone mention these so I figured I would post that I found:

The Maltese Falcon
Close Encounters of The Third Kind (CE, one disc)

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

Well, this has been disappointing - it's been about a month since any of my local Big/Lots got any new DVD shipments.

I guess I've gotten spoiled - for a while it seemed like every other week there was a new shipment with some good stuff.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

I made a new year's resolution not to keep checking Big Lots for discs, as I was buying too much stuff that I only had a "marginal" interest in. I broke it for the coupon and still check the thread for new titles.

The Maltese Falcon????

Gotta start checking at Big Lots again. Just when you get caught up with everything you want, they start getting something else. I would be all over that Close Encounters of the Third Kind if a friend hadn't gotten me the 4 disc Wal Mart Exclusive Collector's Set for Christmas the year before last.

I grabbed one. It's the 2000 snapcase release.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

Although there appears to be no new stock here in the past 3-4 weeks I stumbled across a copy of the Legend DVD of "The Little Shop of Horrors" in Color and restored B/W! It's UPC#796019794640 which is called the "old version" at Michael's Movie Mahem but appears to be identical (except for case artwork) to the "new version". It also has a commentary by Mike Nelson of MSTK. I'm opening this one as soon as I finish this post to check the quality of the restoration.

And... done!

Great quality on both picture and sound. I don't think I've ever seen this film with this high a quality of print. Considering the original budget it probably didn't look much, if any, better when new. Even the color version looks excellent. While I didn't watch the entire film in color it's the best colorization job I've ever seen. If I didn't know better I would *almost* be fooled into thinking it had originally been filmed in color.

There was a fairly long discussion thread in the DVD Talk forum about Legend's recent colorized films. Though I would generally avoid colorized films, the technology is way beyond what it was in the past and the still photos I've seen looked pretty good, plus you get a restored B/W version anyway. A guy from Legend or the company that did the colorization actually posted there. I was tempted to blind buy some of those to check it out, but never did, so this is a "must buy" for me for 3 bucks. As such, it probably won't ever show up at my BigLots like The Big Red One and the Woody Allen boxsets. I'm definitely stopping there on the way home tonight. Thanks for the info.

Update:
no luck today
