The only 2-pack I bought was Lost in Translation/Broken Flowers. Last summer, I saw Lost in Translation by itself for $3.00 but they were all full screen. This 2-pack I purchased has both movies in anamorphic widescreen.
PM'ed you about King Kong.

I got the following 2-packs today:

Cinderella Man and Seabiscuit.
Lost in Translation and Broken Flowers. (I already had LiT. No points for guessing why I got BF. ).
12 Monkeys and The Thing.
The Ice Harvest and Two for the Money.

I had seen all these posts regarding the 2-packs and figured I wasn't interested. Then I find myself in the store staring at all of them, with the sale flyer on the display and walk out with a dozen of them.

I paid attention at the register and when one DVD 2 pack was scanned it rang up for $6. When the 2nd one was scanned, both prices became $5 each.

^And beyond that they all ring up at $5 each. I picked up 3 and the 3rd rang up as $5 too.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

Just stopped by a local Big Lots. Nothing new in the way of single DVDs, but they had a couple racks full of the 2 packs. Saw most of what's been reported here, including Cape Fear, at least four copies of the 2 disc Ray/The Hurricane and a bunch of variations with Lost in Translation. The only one that jumped out at me as missing was the Suess packs.

I picked up the Cape Fear pack for me, and I have a 2 disc Ray/The Hurricane for trade or sale. PM me if you're interested.

Picked up the previously reported 2-pack of King Kong vs Godzilla/King Kong Escapes at the Dayton Big Lots on 359 Miamisburg-Centerville rd. Thanks anyway, Zekeburger1979! Picked up the 2-pack of Cape Fear and so got both 2-packs for $5.00 each. Also, picked up Kevin Costner's WaterWorld Widescreen anamorphic for $3.00. They only had one copy of the Kong 2 pack so no more of that one at that store. Here is a link to it on Amazon for reference- http://www.amazon.com/King-Kong-Vs-Godzilla-Escapes/dp/B000BISBDE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1238109314&sr=1-2

A co-worker of mine bought the FTRH/D&C(High School Reunion Collection). She said that D&C is NOT anamorphic. Apparently it is letterboxed matted on a fullscreen format. FTRH is anamorphic widescreen.

Does anyone have info on this? She is going to bring the D&C disk to work so we can check it out.

Ok, my co-worker brought the FTRH/D&C 2 pack to work so we could examine them.

She said that the 2 pack was shrink wrapped back to back.

Here is what we found:

FTRH is indeed anamorphic.

The FTRH cover says "High School Reunion Collection" at the top of the front cover. It says "Collector's Edition" at the bottom of the front cover.

The back cover does not have a UPC code. The space where it would go is blank. On the back cover, the specs says 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen. This is also printed on the disc. We played it on a notebook pc and it is anamorphic widescreen.

Dazed & Confused is NOT anamorphic widescreen.

The D&C cover says "High School Reunion Collection" at the top of the front cover. It says "Widescreen" at the bottom of the front cover.

The back cover does not have a UPC code. The space where it would go is blank. On the back cover, the specs says 1.85:1 widescreen. This is also printed on the disc. We played it on a notebook pc and it is widescreen letterboxed matted on a full frame format. (There are black bars on the top, bottom, left side and right side. )

As a side note, the D&C disc is barebones, while the FTRH disc has a director's commentary and some other extras.

Yeah, the 'Flashback Edition' of Dazed and Confused is the only anamorphic Universal release. Honestly, the Criterion edition of it is pretty loaded and the best version to get if you're a fan.

The HD/SD combo disc of Dazed and Confused is also anamorphic widescreen on the standard definition side. Picked it up for $1.00 when they were 75% off at Ralphs Grocery.

I picked up

Lost in Translation/Broken Flowers
Dave Chappelle's Block Party/Half Baked (Fully Baked Edition)

I'm really looking for the pack with King Kong vs. Godzilla... I'm going to try back when I'm not on lunch break though.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

Out of the ones that I've been looking for, I found the Cape Fears. I only want the Gregory Peck version. I already own the DeNiro one. Also bought:
Carlito's Way/Carlito's Way: Rise to Power (only need the later)
Skeleton Key/Cry-Wolf
American Pie/American Pie: Band Camp (only need the later)
American Pie: Beta House/American Pie: Naked Mile
Bring It On: In it to Win It/Bring It On: All or Nothing
Peter Pan/Nanny McPhee (only need the later)
Meet the Parents/You, Me and Dupree (only need the later)
Land of the Dead/Dawn of the Dead
Assault on Precinct 13/Waste Deep
Bean/Johnny English (only need the later)

I have extras of King Kong Escapes/King Kong Vs. Godzilla. I'll trade for Blue Crush/Josie and the Pussy Cats PG13 (unedited version only) check my trade list: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/dvd-exchang...ml#post9354868

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

The thing I hate about these "buy 2 and save" deals is when I find only one set I'd buy at one Big Lots, and another single one at another. I end up buying neither, since it's the sale that would put me over the line to buy. I ended up buying nothing. Always happens...

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

I picked up several of the two-packs today:

Cape Fear/Cape Fear
The Door in the Floor/Swimming Pool
The Good Shepherd/The Interpreter
Shaun of the Dead/Slither

The films in the two middle sets are the types that I would usually just rent (as I've heard mixed things about them,) but at these prices I decided they were worth a blind buy, even if they aren't that great.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

The only thing of note at my Big Lots was Brick. I would have picked up FMA or a few others, but they were all in shitty, beat-up condition so I decided I'd pass and do what I should have been doing in the first place, namely save the money or purchase things I truly need at the moment (food, supplies, etc.).

Animal House/Blues Brothers
Mr. Bean/Johnny English
Elizabeth/Elizabeth: The Golden Age (been looking for this one myself)
12 Monkeys/The Thing
Fast Times at Ridgemont High/Dazed and Confused(High School Reunion Collection) - even though D&C is non-animorphic, for the price it's a good watch.
Mummy Returns/The Mummy
Conan/Conan the Destroyer

**Note: The Franchise Collection contains the following 9 features:

The Cat in the Hat
The Lorax
Pontofell Pock and His Magic Piano
Green Eggs and Ham
Sneetches
Zax
Grinch Night
The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat
The Hoober-Bloob Highway

The total running time for the Franchise Collection dvd is 2hrs and 56min.

The Franchise Collection/Mike Myers Cat in the Hat movie pair is by far the best deal of the 3 pairs, since it includes 9 animated features and the movie. The other 2 pairs only have 2 features (1 feature per dvd).
Actually the "Franchise Collection" is a compilation of the other 4 separate titles. Exactly the same titles but at a much better price with far less storage space needed.

At the store near me they had the 4 individual titles in 2 different 2-packs:
The Grinch Grinches The Cat In The Hat/The Lorax
The Cat in the Hat/Green Eggs and Ham

They also had The Franchise Collection/Cat in the Hat (Myers - FS)

The individual releases contain:

The Grinch Grinches The Cat In The Hat/The Hoober-Bloob Highway
Green Eggs and Ham/Sneetches/Zax/Grinch Night
The Cat in the Hat (The only single title with no extra content)
The Lorax/Pontoffel Pock & His Magic Piano
