LASER - Is this what happened last time a few days before the coupons were to go live? I thought they got populated with bar-codes at the last minute.....

No, the last time many months ago when they ran the surprise coupon offer there were barcodes from the beginning. Also there were about nine different coupons, each worth a different value. This time there are only two coupons without barcodes. When B&N sends these out they will attach a coupon code worth one of the amounts printed on the coupon. You'll have to scan the coupon at a store, or enter it online to find out the value.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
Do you think these are meant to be "e-mail address specific" coupons/codes, or will each coupon have a "generic" code that anyone can use?
If these are "generic" codes for all to use, having 4 or 5 possible discounts but only 2 coupons means that B&N could easily make the non-member "surprise" 10% off and the member "surprise" 15% off, which doesn't mean much, but could lure lots of people not in the know to stores (and online) in hopes of a big discount.

Yeah that happened the last time. Looks like B&N is making sure there aren't too many recipients of 50% off coupons with the changes this time around.

So do you think the in-store codes will be one-time use, or will we just have to try them at the register to figure out which one is the 50% off?

Yes it looks that way since the coupons have no barcodes. If each coupon uses a random code I don't know how you can figure out the value unless it is scanned at the register. If you did happen to get a 50% store coupon it's supposed to be a one time use coupon. If you tried using it more than once I would assume the cashier would be able to tell if it has already been redeemed once.

^ So it seems there is no hope for a repeat of the last two sales, then. Damn, I had 4 days, 2 stores, and 23 movies I was going to get. Since they don't send me e-mail anyway (despite having requested it several times), and the likelihood of getting a 50% off coupon is almost nil, I'm sure not ambling up to a register with a "mystery" coupon to get a few percent off of MSRP.

The way it looks probably not. I'll look again later this afternoon to see if B&N may have added regular versions of the coupon at the last minute, but I would be surprised to find any. I'm sure they are aware what happened the last several times they ran this coupon promotion when the coupon values were leaked ahead of time.

These will probably be sent to anyone that signed up and receives B&N offers through their email. I expect they will start going out later tonight or tomorrow since it starts on the 25th.

This is sad news. I royally abused the coupons the first time they did this, but not nearly enough the 2nd time. I wanted redemption this time around, to make up for my laziness last time. Oh well...

I had two good runs, made the most of both sales, and was really hoping for another one. I used their coupons to be sure, but I also bought their latte and other stuff as well. This time, I won't even be setting foot inside a store.

Trust me, that's what they're hoping for. (And I'm in the same boat as you.)

I have two B&N accounts from back in the day and just got my "surprise" coupon on one of my email boxes...tested...of course it's only 15%.
*sigh*
Which drops the book I was looking at down to 40 cents cheaper than Amazon.
Way to compete, B&N.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
It looks like it BN finally caught on and generated unique codes per email. I could be wrong but that's what it seems like. Wonder if they are actually unique to the email or just look that way? I'd be interested in knowing.

How many digits are the codes? Also, check the url of the coupon (if possible), see if it's generic or specific. Maybe someone with a crappy 15% off can post one here so we can examine it (assuming you don't want to use it).

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
Could people post the number that comes after 'pid=' in the url of their coupon? It's the project id number, and I'm wondering if it's unique to the % off...It's the only thing that really makes a difference to the coupon if you change it.
Mine (15% off) is 38972.
