Re: General Costco DVD Thread

Saw a new release of HOWARD THE DUCK with added features that tempted me to but it again for 6.99
Also saw for 9.99 seperate discs for Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph and the Amazing coat, CATS, and a new release of Xanadu (man that is a bad movie). I think the WIZ was also 9.99.

For $4.99 saw The Great Outdoors, Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

I saw them - they are thinner - by about 50%! Kills me cos I already double-dipped once on this series to save shelf space, and I just can't buy it a 3rd time (tho I love this mega-compact packaging).
Also - I can't understand why they went for a 3rd DVD release on this series instead of a Blu release...

Instant savings of $7.00 off "Sony Newer Release Assortment" (DVD & Blu-ray). 4/15 - 5/9
The picture shows Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, Julia & Julia, This Is Is, Angels & Demons, 2012, & District 9. But states additional titles are available.

Re: General Costco DVD Thread

Just got back from the Sterling, VA, Costco. They didn't have much in the way of box sets, but they have a pretty decent Blu-Ray selection. I picked up The Wizard of OZ 3-Disc Blu-Ray for $12.99 and a 2-movie set (The Robe and The Bible Fox Cinema Classics) for $9.99

They also had several Criterions for $23.99. There was a time when I would have jumped on any Criterion at that price, but after last year's B&N extravaganzas I've become accustomed to purchasing Criterions for $13-$18. Still, for anyone interested, I saw Howard's End-Blu, Bottle Rocket, Paris, Texas, For All Mankind, and The Last Emperor (single-disc)

Too lazy to look a few posts back, but "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans" is $12.99 (sticker price, not special sale).

Excellent new release price for a great movie.

Well so much for those, in typical Costco fashion, they were there for a couple of weeks and now gone.

As were at mine, but I checked yesterday and they were gone. Of course, it seems there isn't much consistency on certain titles at Costco. For instance, mine still hasn't gotten in any Criterion Blu-rays. Maybe at mine the SG-1 sets weren't selling very well so they shipped them off to another store...

The Warner Bros Popeye sets were $18.99 each for volumes 1 , 2, and 3.
Volume 1 is the bargain as it is 4 discs. The other two sets are 2 discs each.

And I got Mad Men Season 3 for free from Overstock because they canceled my order and then sent me the set and didn't charge me. How is this a bargain today?

Back to business. I saw season sets of The Mentalist, Smallville, The Terminator, and Damages for $16.99 each season.

Also I Dream of Jeannie complete series in the bottle for $69.99.

Did they have S8 of Smallville or S2 of Terminator{was Terminator a sliver or black box?}?

Sorry I didn't look close emough to determine which seasons were available. Not sure if the latest seasons were included. The Mentalist, obviously, is the latest season as only one season has been released.

They did have Terminator S2. Not sure about Smallville S8, but I would guess so.

Same here - "I Dream of Jeannie" complete series set (one with bottle) for $69.99. Then I saw same set in Frys for $120.

Loved the DVD display @ CostCo in NE San Antonio area - sitting on wooden "shelves" that angle downward as they go to the back - very easy to look over.

Just saw Xanadu (Magical Musical Edition w/ CD) for $9.99

One of my guilty pleasures and was very tempting, but I'm holding out for a Blu-ray. Especially after seeing it in HD on HBO last month.

Wow. It's one of my guilty pleasures too and introduced me to ELO and John Farrar music. I doubt I would've liked it as much without the good music. I think I have all the songs memorized. Most people didn't like it, but then most of those same people also hated Pete's Dragon and The Money Pit which are other top movies of mine. Olivia even said to an audience once in reference to Xanadu, "you mean you saw'r it?" Xanadu has a line that I quote very frequently: "it'll be done when it's done, but that's just an approximate guess". Nobody has ever recognized that line of course. Who's Michael Beck they say.

Since I have the first DVD release and I couldn't see much difference in the new one (besides the CD which I already have), I'll also wait for a BD (but wouldn't pay more than $10 even for one of my favorite movies).

This isn't a guilty pleasure for me because I don't believe in feeling guilty about my pleasure. If anyone has a problem with me liking Xanadu, that's on them; I'm fine.

This ran at my local dollar show back in 1980 and I must've gone to see it a dozen times cuz I loved ELO and there were so many cute girls; I even knew a couple of their names, like Lise Lang, who was the popcorn girl at the beach. The story was pure crap, Michael Beck's "acting" was indistinguishable from the scenery behind him, but the musical numbers were brilliant, especially the "Andrews Sisters" vs. The Tubes bit.

I've already got the DVD and soundtrack, but if this came out on a decently transferred BD for $10, I'd be on it right quick.

EDIT: Check out the Tribute to the Lesser Xanadu Characters. Looking at Lise now, I'm thinking, "Where's her butt?" What do you want from me? I was 13 then.

Re: General Costco DVD Thread

Picked up the first season of Hunter for $6.99. Seemed like a good deal. Haven't seen that show since it aired.

Also grabbed Curb Your Enthusiasm season 3 for $15.99. Been waiting for the pricedrop to $12.99 like the other HBO series (Sex, Carnivale, Oz), but I may be old and gray by the time that happens. Still waiting for a pricedrop on Deadwood.

Re: General Costco DVD Thread

I saw the Marilyn Monroe and Shirley Temple sets that they had last Christmas back in stock. These $50 sets have 16 or 17 movies each. Basically all of Shirley Temple's Fox films from when she was a child and all of Marilyn Monroe's films from Fox and UA so " Some Like It Hot" and "The Misfits" is included as well as "All About Eve" which isn't usually included in a Monroe box set. These are all previous releases. Seems to be a Costco exclusive at least for now. Slim packaging so good for storage. Cardboard sleeves so beware of scratches.

I also saw complete series sets for Soap and Sanford and Son for $19.99. There was one other complete series set but I can't remember the name.
