Is anyone else having trouble getting the discs from RS to read in their computer? I've tried several (to put it mildly) times and can't get either the first or second disc to read. I was having trouble when I initially got the set, but eventually they loaded, so I know they're not completely defective. Would imagine it might be my drive, but wanted to see if it was a widespread problem. Thanks!

Plus the discs are not DVDs, btw.

They're not DVDs? What are DVD-roms, then? Crackers?

Darn you all, bought both yesterday. Used 15% and 20% coupons.
Also found two other interesting media based bargain items.
One was Stan Lee's Amazing Marvel Universe. It's a coffee table sized book recounting the origins of Marvel. It has a little speaker and an hour or so of pre-recorded speech, Stan Lee reminiscing, you can randomly access the talks by page number. It was $7.98 before discount in store, but only $5.99 online.
The other was a sports book, Dark Horses and Underdogs, only $6.98 in store. It comes with a DVD of highlights of the biggest upsets in sports history.

Oh, brianluvdvd, I just don't like putting out false information. Someone might buy this either for themselves or as a gift thinking they're regular DVDs and can be viewed in a regular DVD player. It can and will happen. I just don't want to see that happening to any of our members. Again, thank you for posting the bargain.

Perhaps we can get off the semantics of dvd's vs. cd's vs. dvd-rom's. The reality is, many of us just got the entire historical archive of Rolling Stone Magazine (whatever its faults) on 4 discs (whatever the heck they are) for under $20. Oh, and a nice coffee table book. And a free 1-year subscription to the magazine. Heck, I didn't even know this set existed until this thread was posted.
And frankly, I would think most of us on this site should be equipped with computers and the like to be able to use the archive discs, whatever their format.

... a DVD ROM-based, searchable digital archive of every issue of Rolling Stone magazine from 1967 to 2007.
The product includes the Bondi Reader, powerful MAC or PC browsing software that allows you to explore, search and view every page, and to arrange and save multiple reading lists.

Brianluvdvd - thanks again for posting this deal. The Rolling Stone archive is a great set. Never had any doubt it would come with the DVD's. Also bought "The Annotated Hobbit" which was pretty much free as it put me just over the amount needed for free shipping.

Yeah, I was excited when I paid $14.98 for the Stan Lee book when they first clearanced it. I never expected it to go so low. Guess they really over-printed it.

Went in to the Lancaster PA B&N Tuesday night -- they were out of RS (which I already had), but had 2 Playboy sets left, both unwrapped. I bought the nicest one, and it had all the goodies, and the discs played fine. But apparently they're going fast in the stores...

I also found a compendium of all the New Yorker cartoons, in a book and on 2 CD-ROMS, for $19.98.

Well, here you go - I hereby apologize for anyone who, operating on the information I provided, purchased this set assuming they would be able to page through 40 years worth of magazines on their tv. Mea culpa. I can only hope that they got one of the cheap sets, you know, the ones that people figured weren't going to come with DVDs? Er, DVD-roms?

To people who frequent DVDTalk? I doubt it. I think everyone here is savvy enough to know the difference between a HD DVD and a DVD, and a DVD and a DVD that holds only computer data.
Thanks for trying to protect us though Tom!

Thanks OP! I just got my RS set from UPS and it is Saweet! This thing is heavy. I can't wait to plop down in front of the TV tonight and watch the DVD-rom
Anyway, thanks for the deal, this is well worth the $16.xx I ended up paying for it.

Now I feel bad about that last post of mine in this thread. I got a new copy from BN.com, and everything was in the package. Must have been a freak thing in the last one.
Thanks to the OP!

I should have mine in tomorrow or the next so I will post confirmation.

There's also a book called 'Video Game Art' on clearance for $3.99, in case anyone is looking for another filler option to get free shipping. Lots of hi-res renders of the characters and environments from fairly recent games.
