Gankutsuou for me. Couldn't resist. Membership paid for itself already. Depending on how regular these coupons are, I may shop here for HD DVDs versus WB.

How long does it takes for the membership to become in effect after the on-line sign-up?

Apparently, I paid $15 dollars more for the twilight zone collection than I would have if I had known about this deal a day earlier--oh well.

If a deal this great comes along again, it deserves its own thread next time! I almost missed out on this one because it was buried in this thread and only caught on because someone posted it in the Hot Deals forum.

To the people who bought an extra membership for this deal: how does that work, can you use the same name and credit card to buy it? I'm thinking about it to pick up the x-files collection (which I'm hoping won't go up in price anymore anytime soon!).

I thought of starting a separate thread for it, but figured the mods would just close it since it should be covered in this thread.

Personally, if I see a thread that is constantly near the top (other than the stickies), I read it. It usually means that there is something big posted. The B&N thread is practically never near the top, so that should have been a sign that something in this thread was worth reading... I posted this deal on 10/16, so this thread has been near the top non-stop for 8 days now...

To answer your question, yes I used the same name and address for my 2nd account...

Pretty much instantly... You just need to log out of your account, then log back in. The membership number should be there...

It is easier to think of it as taking 60% off of the current sale price... The coupon is for an ADDITIONAL 50% off for members, thus it is actually 60% off.

I so want to jump on this for the angel series set, but I'd do better to wait for DD's 20% sale. I rarely buy stuff from B&N. I think within the last year, I've bought maybe 2 things. So $25 for the membership sorta negates the discount. Although i think i'll ask my aunt and mom if they have a membership

Ack! The prices for all the sets I was going to get have gone up! Can anyone tell me how often these prices fluctuate? Once it goes up what's the likihood of it going back down before the 50% expires? I was interested in the complete set for Star Trek TNG, X-files, and Sex and the City.

About 5-10 minutes. I was getting worried initially because it says when you order the membership, it will arrive electronically in 3 days. But I wouldn't worry about it. Expect to get an email with your membership number in about 10 minutes or less.

Hey thanks, I appreciate the reply. Honestly, I don't come here often enough to keep track of what threads are popular, maybe it would be helpful if a mod changed the thread title to let people know when a good deal is going on? Anyway, I still appreciate getting in on the deal, even if I was a little late.

Prices change often both up and down. Some on this site have speculated that the prices on big box sets which almost all went from 30% to 20% off were a result of the 50% off coupon being widely used. Others have said that the prices always change even without a popular coupon. Its all speculation.
The prices are still the best you will currently find . I know I feel that if something was once cheaper, its not a bargain but these prices are still great.
Prices could go back, the discount reduced to 10% or B&N could cancel the coupon before its scheduled expiration. You just never know.

Here is a purchase idea for classic films fans:

Using the 50% off coupon, the Mega Signature collection can be had for $303.33 before taxes. That's 78 DVD of classic movies.

Seems to be working with the 40% off sale too, so if you already have a membership, there are some great deals to be had. The 6 disc Engineering an Empire is 14.38 before tax. And the Ray Harryhausen sets are both under 14.

A few other deals:

The Doctor Who 40 disc Megaset is $278 ($737 at Amazon)
The Prisoner Complete Series is $23.98

Ford at Fox is now 15% off (was 30% off 48 hrs ago). Looks like I really shot myself in the foot by not ordering this right away.

I've never seen B&N cancel a coupon early, ever. Personally, I'm not satisfied with 15% off. If it's a title coming out before the coupon expires (many of the popular box sets we've all been buying come out Nov. 6), I'd wait for release day. They tend to put titles 30% off on release day more often than not. But keep checking daily until then, just in case they drop again. I'm not optimistic, but they might...

Are there any current 10% to 25% coupons ? There are some smaller sets that don't pay for me to buy a new membership to get.

Thanks

I found one n9k8u9c $5 off a $30 purchase. Expires November 4, 2007

A bit of info not mentioned by the other guys: You can get the membership and the item you want to get 50% off of in the same purchase. Just put both in the shopping cart plus the coupon code and it gives you the member price and 50% additional discount.

Sounds like once the prices have gone up they're not likely to come back down anytime soon. So frustrating. I've been trying to get these sets over a year. I should have just made the purchase at work instead of waiting until I got home.

Well, that's frustrating. Yes I definitely feel its not a deal. The combination of the prices going up and the $25 membership fee make it doubly bad.

The X-Files collection is still $148 with a new membership. That's about $25 up from earlier in the week, but still $80 cheaper than anywhere else. Hmm, I can't decide if I should pull the trigger now, or wait and see if the price goes down next week. (But it could also go up :/)

I had the same probelem. You have to put your mastercard number in first, since that is one of the coupon requirements.
