With how lazy most GS / EB stores are, you'll probably have to pick through the bins and look for movies with the generic title line on the $5.99 sticker. The stores around here rarely update their prices. Hell, the GS north of me never bothered to update most of their prices when they went to the $5.99 / $9.99 / $12.99 system. You can still go in there and find many titles with $7.99 or $10.99 stickers on them.

From: Slightly Off Center...
Went to three local GS and at the first one, nothing, not even a single $5.99 generic!
I know I just saw a few music titles over the weekend there... Hmmm...
Went to second GS and BINGO!
Stalag 17, Pact With The Devil, Jack The Bear, Night Flier {snapper case}, Father Goose, The Devil And Daniel Johnston...
Next GS was wierd...
I saw a few titles that I just knew were not in their system and yet they were marked $5.99 so I looked closer and what this GS did was to wrongly name alot of dvds!
I brought 3 dvds to the counter and explained nicely to the ass. manager that these dvds are misnamed...
He said that when the dvds were brought in there, that's what the clerks named them as since they weren't in the system...
"Eh, so these 3 and many more like them should have generic $5.99 stickers and then be sold for $1.99, right?"
"No, that's how they are in the system so I can't change them!"
"Can I please speak to the manager?"
He comes out from the back and again I explain the situation and he says the same thing...
So I take out my cell with the camera and start taking pics of the dvds and the wrong stickers on them...
He sees me doing this and then says, "Okay, no problem, I'll just ring these 3 up as $1.99 and then go change the other titles later."
Picked up: Tomie, Pillow Talk, Creature From The Haunted Sea...

Had to resurrect this thread based on a conversation I just had with my local GS manager....
I stopped in tonight on a whim, just to see if they had anything new in their DVD section. Surprisingly, they did, including some box sets! I chatted with the manager regarding DVD trade-ins while he rang up my purchase. He told me that corporate has once again changed its mind. While they are still holding to the "no more DVD trades for cash" policy, they have decided to ditch the idea of doing away with DVDs altogether, so.... there will be new trades coming in, just not as spectacular as those "five-finger discounters" who brought in newly-released stuff to trade for cash (unless, of course, they bring those in to trade on newly-released games or some such thing).
Oh, and I picked up:
Saw III (Unrated version)
High School Musical (2-disc Remix edition)
Independence Day (SE)
for $23.38 after B2G1F and Card discounts.

The thing is that some idiotic higher up recommended that Gamestop and all its related store chains begain doing away with DVD because he believed that the format was going to die at the end of the year because of the introduction of Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. He thought that if they kept accepting DVDs, the would have a backlog of an used, dissapearing format, like they did when the N64 and PSone were discontinued and that they would be unable to sell them since customers would have move on to another format. It seems somebody else did some little research and came to the conclusion that DVDs were profitable all around and that they will continue to sell them until the new formats get more mainstream.
The manager also added that small stores will indeed stop selling DVDs, but the reasoning behind them is shelf space.

I wanted to get Sopranos S5 & 6.1 at my GS, but they had nothing for the freebie so I passed. This is the closest I have come so far to actually buying something via this deal at my GS.

Went to a Gamestop at a mall here in Michigan today and saw that their DVDs were now buy 2 get 3 free. The store used to be buy 2 get 2 free. So, I don't know if all the stores that had buy 2 get 2 have upped the deal or just this store. This is probably for smaller stores that are trying to sell out their DVD inventory completely.
Anyhoo, I picked up these for $18 plus tax w/ my discount card:
The Right Stuff (2-Disc SE)
The Libertine
Spy Kids 3-D (2-Disc SE)
Mission Impossible II (2-Disc Set)
Kicking & Screaming (Wide)
If this deal has already been posted, I apologize.

Depends, but the clerks said not as much as they used too, maybe a couple bucks a title. And now they only give store credit, no cash anymore.
They fucking caved under the pressure of walmart complaints that people lift stuff from their stores to sell at GS. As if shoddy security is their fault!

FYE gives better rates, not sure why people sell to GS/EB.
Ever since my local GS/EB stopped taking in dvd trades the Moviestops have been filled with stolen titles. They usually have Tuesday's new releases by Wednesday afternoon.

Looks like Gamestop is using the $1.99 tag for many of the unknown titles. I picked up Masters of Horror: Homecoming at that price yesterday, and they also had the Xena 10th Anniversary collection with 7 $1.99 tags on it (for some reason that's how they price some multi-disc sets).

The $1.99 tags actually list the name of the dvd or are they the "generic" labels?

the 1.99 tags only say "USED G, PG, PG-13 DVD" OR "USED R, NR DVD" and they put them on the dvds that are not in the system

I only went in there because of dvds, and I ended up buying games because of it. Even if the dvds weren't making a huge splash, I think it helped their business. If it wasn't doing so well they should have changed purchasing and selling strategies. IMO, dvds and games are the perfect media marriage.
Actually he wasn't joking. Best Buy had conversations with Gamestop top management about how the trade-in market impacted their retail stores. He said that there was an increase number of theft in the DVD departments and new that many Gamestops/Eb Games accepted stolen merchandise from BB. That was reason #1. Reason # 2 was that Gamestop top management thought that Blu-Ray and HD-DVD were going to take over the market and their chain of store will get stuck with huge bulks of unsold DVDs. So their logic was to stop accepting DVD trade-ins by the end of 2007. According to some managers, those plans have changed and they are going to accept DVD trade-ins at most of their stores beyond 2007.
