They need another tier of pricing, maybe a $2.99 one. I had a bunch of crap sitting in my store for 2 years, and when I finally made a new section of "$3 each B2G1F," I finally started to get rid of some of them.

Just called my local GameStop and was told all DVDs are Buy 2, Get 2 Free as of today (that's right, 2 and 2). Box sets included. I'm driving out there later today to check it out. Also called a local EB and was told they don't have any special promotions on DVDs right now. YMMV.

I went in to my local EB games (which apparently merged with Gamestop so they're the same company.) and the girl that helped me showed me a flyer that they were going to be posting in the window on Monday that states that they will no longer be giving cash for DVD's and that they won't be carrying them at all. She said the company has said they won't refocus on only games and will be phasing out DVD's altogether.
I picked up Yellowbeard, Constaintine(2 disc with a comic) and TAPS anniversary edition for $10.71(which she had to do manually since the computer was no longer applying it automatically).

The Gamestop, EB Games merge happened on February 2006.

Went into a Gamestop today and saw the signage being prepped for tomorrow. Seems like it'll be a Buy 2 Get 2 Free on all used dvds to get rid of their inventory. Also saw a flyer posted that said they won't be accepting trade-ins anymore starting 3/5. Looks like they'll be phasing out used dvds/hd-dvd/blu ray indefinitely. I picked up about 8 HD discs in the last two days and a few box sets. I'm going to call around tomorrow and see if any stores have any HD software left.

I might have to drive back. They had one of those large black wire bins completely full of box sets.

Hmmm...
So with the B2G2:
$5.99 will be $3 each for 4...
$9.99 will be $5 each for 4...
$19.99 will be $10 each for 4...
Interesting...
So if GS is going to stop buying dvds, who will step up and corner the used dvd market?

It's B2G1F here in Portland, but that includes box sets, so the sting isn't so bad. Unfortunately, the GS by my house didn't have anything that warranted a spending spree and since today's a holiday, I won't get to the EBG by my office until tomorrow. Hopefully they'll have a better selection.

I just got completely screwed over by the stores in my area giving me misinformation between stores. I'm somewhat less than amused. I ended up with Star Trek the original series for about 95.97. Yes, $5 more than the 'list' price for the 3 sets used b2g1.

oh and in the process of being misinformed and lied to, I DID discover that only something like 20% of stores are getting b2g2, and they are (to those mgrs' knowledge) the only stores that are going to be getting rid of dvds completely.

I checked out 8 stores (and boy am I tired) and only one had B2G2 - and that store had the worst stock and virtually no boxed sets.
6 stores were running B2G1 and one store was still running the old sale.
It was great to see the box sets finally go on sale though. Too bad you can't combine the deals between stock in multiple stores. No one store had 3 box sets I really wanted.
So basically, with this new sale compared to the old one
$5.99 = more expensive than before
$9.99 = a draw
$12.99 = slightly cheaper
$19.99 and up = way better.

Didn't feel like driving around much so I called about 9-10 Gamestops/EBs in my area. Only one EB had B2G2 free sale going on, but there was a farther Gamestop in Long Beach that was running it as well. Has anybody been able to combine deals between stock in different stores? I figured this was fine since you can do a return and rebuy if the purchase was made within 7 days. I have some stuff I picked up on the weekend and I'd like to return it at a B2G2 free location to rebuy.

Just a heads up: the 10% off used DVDs coupon in February's Game Informer magazine will not stack with the new B2G1 deal. I had two stores try it, both scanned as the first discount and as the last. The only way to honor it is for the cashier to manually adjust the prices, which neither would do for me, because it says "Cannot be combined with any other offer" (Though it stacked with the old 3 for $10, 3 for $20, etc..).

This was the absolute headache pain in the butt I went through today.
One store (running b2g1) had star trek tos (all 3 seasons). That was my intended goal, possibly with a set of TNG (which they were also overflowing with) or their newly arrived OOP transformers ssn2v1.
So, they told me of a local (ish) store running the b2g2. I went there, they only had TNG, and not 4 seasons worth. I asked if I could exchange at the other store. They said it'd be up to the manager but the register probably couldn't do it. I accepted that, after learning they could do a full return at the other store if they couldn't do the exchange.
They also offered me the Edge card, since with those 4 sets it was effectively free (apparently the B2G2 and the 10% coupon DID stack at that store).
So, I took those four to the store with TOS, where they attempted an exchange, confirmed the computer couldn't do it, then said I should buy TOS there and then return it at the b2g2 store.
I did so, and went back to the b2g2 store, where they immediately said (quite rudely, I might add--I was being very polite, honest) "NO! Manager discretion! They called right after you left!"
So I decided to return the original four sets and found I could in fact NOT return the stupid card.
I ended up keeping TOS at the un-discounted b2g1 because I didn't want to waste yet another trip.
Eventually I noticed why the transactions had somehow come out at a similar total and called back the b2g2 store to ask if they'd let me at least have my 10% coupon back since I'd returned those 4 sets.
They called the TOS store and just had them set me up, so I went back there a final time and they manually added the coupon to my existing transaction--but apparently weren't "supposed" to be able to do it.
Curiously, the employees on the peon level were much more polite, more helpful and more willing to work with me and suggest/offer solutions. The managers were both rude jackasses.
So, long story short:
--Seems stock cannot be traded between stores
--Seems the 10% at least *CAN* stack with b2g2
--Seems the 10% does NOT stack with b2g1
But as they decided to tell me AFTER I made an extra trip and a call behind my back, all of these things are primarily manager discretion...

The 10% off does stack with the buy2getX. The Buy2GetX is a manual process(i saw the guy type in 19.99 after scanning my three 19.99 sets), where as the Gamestop card takes the 10% off if you scan it.

For what it's worth, at one of the stores I visited today the girl at the register expressed delight that the B2G1 sale was coming up on the register automatically. She said something about "we don't have to do it manually anymore".

It was B2G1 at the Gamestop in Medford, NY. I got Wrestlemania XV, Wrestlemania X-8 and Wrestlemania XIX. They were all $12.99 each, so it came to $26 + tax.
I'm glad because the XV and X-8 are OOP and getting increasingly rare

Not a lot of huge bargains out there right now. Found a few sets of Trek TNG, but they're always 1, 4 and 5. For some reason those were the easiest for the crackheads to steal. Anyhow, they're still too expensive even at B2G1F compared to what you can get a new copy for come the DDD 20% sale.
Still a lot of Band of Brothers tins out there also, as well as Sopranos. One store I was at had 3 copies of 6.1 in... no, they weren't stolen, were they?????
I bought a lot of crap yesterday, mainly for resale at my store. The best find was a couple freshly-stolen sets of Saturday Night Live season 1. I also found a copy of Twin Peaks season 1, a show I always meant to watch but never did. Now I can get around to it.
