In case you couldn't tell, it varies from store to store depending on how well the information is distributed and followed across the coporate information ladder. Have you tried asking about a specific location? I'd have to say at this point if you haven't got in on the more major deals, you're likely to just be SOL.

I picked it up for $5.99 last night, but I'm guessing most Targets nation-wide have caught on and are either pulling stock completely and/or correcting prices.

For you Southern CA folks: Whittier's Target had the biggest assortment of TV sets I've seen, yet none for $5.99. (Their scanner near the DVD section was turned off. Fishy.)

So, no go at Rowland Heights, La Verne, Whittier and now, I'm assuming, Chino Hills.

I get irritated when they do this....the store is open for business and they shouldnt harass people. I had this happen at gaithersburg store years ago, punk security guy followed me around the store, so first started leading him all around the store, womans apparel, footwear, etc. Then stop abruptly, then follow him around, as he "tries" to be inconspicuous........pretty sure it pisses them off. If you want to check me, check me, but dont try to think you are slick, pal. If my wife is with me, I'll say something like " look at this guy, point him out, and say I think we should call the store manager, this guy is following us around, and I dont think he works here either, they might want to know"....anyone else having security follow them or try to watch you, I am curious....

What do you think it looks like to a reasonable person if someone is placing 20-30 dvd box sets in their cart. Nobody would go into Target to purchase that many dvd's at once. If the guards weren't aware of the pricing errors, of course they should be suspicious. That's their job. When I went into Target to check the prices for myself, I didnt worry if they were watching me or not because I wasn't doing anything illegal.
I manage a drugstore and we get people all the time that load up their carts from one section of items and try to sneak them out of the store. Why would I one not be suspicious?

Your first and second posts asking about Batman tas were only about 40 minutes apart. Please be patient :) Welcome to the boards.

From reading the posts in this thread, it seems that many stores did have Batman Vol 3 at $5.99, but it may be too late now.

Check the thread (or use search) to see if the Target that is an hour away from you has been mentioned. Many of us are posting specific locations around the U.S. that have/have not had the misprice, along with the good/bad luck we've had.

And like the thread topic says - YMMV. Good luck and again, welcome :)

im located in nyc and i was gonna go to the collage point target in flushing. so the deals dead now? thanks for the welcome

fitzcain 08-11-05 04:01 PM

I havent done whole carts...I do three a time, four max. A cart would look stupid, I agree, and of course would garner attention. Not saying they shouldnt do their jobs, but spying over peoples shoulders and generally making you feel watched, is not normal behavior, especially if you are just price checking (why price check if I was gonna justwalk with it>??). I am simply shopping and doing nothing wrong, same as you...

I actually went there on Tuesday night - no deals though. Everything was in stock, which was my first clue that nothing worthwhile was $5.99. But I did scan about 20 items before really making sure....LOL.

truthseeker02 08-11-05 04:10 PM

THanks for the Minneapolis updates...I am going to head to Burnsville and St. Louis Park today although I'm sure they are all figured out by now...Good luck hunting!

Oh, and I went to the Nicollet mall location downtown...no go.

TimeandTide 08-11-05 04:24 PM

Not sure if this was addressed upthread (been trying my best to keep up), but anyone want to speculate on how many Target employees lost their jobs over this? Their losses must have been in the tens of thousands at least.

Regarding the Undercover Asset Protection dummies. This guy followed me all around. So like some of you, I tried to act normal. Going all over the place and price scan once in a while. This JERK actually ended up calling the police and I actually got arrested AFTER I have purchased the dvds. The stupid dumb fat cop said he watched me on security monitor and it looked like I was "strategically" taking and leaving dvd boxsets all over the place and that I only bought the ones I did because I realized I was being followed. Understand this, I was arrested for BURGLARY even though the cop took out everything I had with me and found NOTHING except for the stuff I bought which were shown on the receipt. I ended up spending the night in jail because I knew I was innocent and I will not pay bail money for my freedom. Any action I can take to get some compensation for this wrongful arrest??? Please help me out because I am very very pissed at the cops and the security idiots.

Numerous lawyers would take your case for free if what you say is true. You can't be arrested for simply "thinking" about shoplifting. Having you arrested on false charges (especially if there is no proof of any wrong doing) would most likely result in a sizeable court award in your favor.

Target would probably settle out of court if the evidence backs up your story. But... if your story has any holes in it (or any hint of deception on your part) no one will touch your case with a 10 ft pole!

I am surprised that the "real" cops booked you if they felt that no law had been broken.

whoa......damn that is completely over the top.......strategic whatever.....they cant bust you if you didnt take anything.......even if you were "going to", you put it down before going out, have a receipt for all your purchases......they got dick.....I would get an attorney and go for wrongful arrest, and sue him specifically not just the company, so he'll lose his job (the company will jettison mr gungho ...way before backing him)

hope you win that one. Sorry to hear you took one for the team.......

fitzcain 08-11-05 05:01 PM

y'know, the more i rethink the arrest thing......Couldnt they trump that charge up for anyone using a scanner>? and not buying items cause the price is too high? thats their purpose.......sounds like a grand slam of a court case.........get more back than a few dvd sets are worth, I am sure....

Jimmy Kustes 08-11-05 05:21 PM

PM me if this deal alive in any place in TN/KY please. Thanks. I have a feeling Target is looking at this thread.

fitzcain 08-11-05 05:29 PM

hey audisseus,
what state you in? what store was this.......

TheKobra 08-11-05 05:37 PM

For those of you who live in the Phoenix area.....its a no go!
I checked all four on Power Road in Mesa and they all scan the normal price.
SOB!!! Why does this happen to us here in the Vally of the Sun:(

Ianscloset 08-11-05 06:05 PM

I went to the Target in Oro Valley (Tucson) AZ today, I found the Jaws 30th Edition, scanned it and sure enough $5.99 so I grabbed that. I looked around for the items other people found and scanned a few of those (Friends, Sopranos, Sex and the City, The O.C.) and no such luck, all regular price. I did see a few price stickers though for newer movies (Man of the House & Ice Princess) for $5.99, but when i scanned them, they came up as $19.99. I wasnt to upset though, Ive been meaning to get the Jaws set since it came out, and I scored on the Costco deal a few weeks back for Sex and the City, but the price of $5.99 sounds so good...

Sabrett 08-11-05 06:12 PM

My fiance and I went back last night to the Brooklyn, NY Target and ended up getting One Tree Hill (Season 1)

Then we decided to go back this morning, too. When we got there, the manager had the scan thingy and a security guard was there, but they didn't get over to the other side yet, so we grabbed Looney Tunes Vol. 2.

Then we figured we'd go back and check tonight...they restocked, but everything was regular price, so the deal is dead in the Brooklyn, NY Target.

As for workers thinking anything of what we were doing, not one of them was ever watching us. Infact, the first night of the sale, the scanners weren't working and we always had to ask the workers to scan stuff...we even had someone scan Band of Brothers the first night and all they responded with was..."Interesting..." but that's as close as we came.

Okay, don't flame me, this isn't my haul but it was posted by a user on FW. I counted 115 boxed sets but I may be off.

I went to the West Colonial store in Orlando that I used to work for but quit last month. Yesterday, an undercover security jerk came to the register in lawn & garden where I was cashing out. I saw him following me in the store. He thought I was going to make a run for it. At the same time a uniformed sercurity guard came from the front also thinking I'm going to run for it. Thinking he was slick, he stopped the purchase at the register and then pulled from his pocket a security card and then called me by name. When I didn't run and was paying for 5 dvds, he had to change his story quick. He ask if I was going to buy all these dvds. I said to him, "are you that dumb? Why else would I have dvds and bath supplies in my basket paying for them at the register". He tried to stop it and I called for the manager at the store. I told him that he tried to accuse me of shop lifting by paying for the merchandise. The person at the register verified what I said and the manager told the security jerk to go wait in his office. For the trouble, the manager told the person to ring me up for the price that came up. From what I heard from some friends, that jerk was fired.
