Detective Thorn 08-09-05 11:07 PM

I stopped by Target again this evening for round 2.

I picked up:
Northern Exposure S3
The Pretender S1
Moonlighting S1/2
Third Rock From the Sun S1

Most of the $5.99 sets had been cleaned out and there were a few people around that were obviously aware of the deal. I doubt there will be anything left when the store opens tomorrow morning.

Thanks! Thumbs up for you.

People weren't really believing me to the point that a mod changed the title of my post to "YMMV, probably 1 store only." I was looking for something to validate my claim and this certainly did it.

I only wish I had checked some of these TV sets back then (Saturday afternoon). I'd be the real hero then. For now I'll accept my nomination for Vice President of the Class of 2005 Deals. Thanks again.

No dice in La Verne, CA either. Management had obviously been aware of this is their DVD section was practically completely empty.

Patman 08-09-05 11:14 PM

How much did Target take it up the shorts on this "pricing" snafu?

yeldarb367 08-09-05 11:18 PM

I've only seen a few reports of people revisiting a store that had 5.99 prices and then didn't. It seems the only method of correction they have is pulling them off the shelves.

P.S. This is me convincing myself to drive back out to Target in the morning.

wewantflair 08-09-05 11:33 PM

I'm sure I will convince myself to head back to Medford tomorrow.

Hell, I already did THAT tonight

Kocheese99 08-09-05 11:39 PM

i'm currently trying to convince myself that i don't need to drive 30 minutes out of my way before i go to work to check one target store. so far i'm not very convincing.

Cameron 08-09-05 11:40 PM

no go in tulsa at woodland hills...i might try another store tommorow...all i really wanted was batman, but i checked several for you guys with no luck...hopefully we all get lucky in the trade forum

Vellsbells 08-09-05 11:42 PM

Think I'm the first person reporting from NM, checked all three in the area and came up good at one. They seemed to have gotten the memo to pull SaTC, Friends, BoB, and OC, but other shows were available and rang up at 5.99.

I scored GG 1-3, JoA, incomplete Little House, 2 sets of Looney Toons, Dawson's S5, FF, Batman, Buffy S1. I made 2 trips to the same store and had my mom make a third purchase. So as not to look too suspicious. Unfortunately, I didn't even think to check the Sopranos, Pretender and Entourage. Ah well, maybe I'll check tomorrow if this is still going on.

Thanks again to the OP. Now I'm off to the trade forum to see if I can get The OC and Buffy s3 if anyone has those follow me to the Target Exchange thread.

(more than she does today already :) ).. i went there again after work, but nothing was there.. the managment must have snag up everything.. already.. oh well..

Is there anything left at all, or should I not even bother going back?

Miami - W Kendall, no dice

Funny thing is that after I returned the full price box sets to their shelves and went by the scanner there was an abandoned cart with several box sets. Another frustrated bargain hunter.

DoggXXL 08-10-05 12:10 AM

Went to 3 Targets after work today here is what I came back with:

1st Target:

Buffy Season One(2 copies)
OC Season One
Buffy Season Seven
Monk Season Three
Dumb and Dumber
Sex and the City Season One(2 copies)

Also bought On Golden Pond since it was marked $5.99 but rang up $9.99. Gonna go back tomorrow and return or get price marked down and cash back.

2nd Target:

Miami Vice Season One
MacGuyver Season One
MacGuyver Season Two
Ultimate Johnny Carson Collection(4 copies)
L Word Season One(2 copies)
Buffy Season One(2 copies)

3rd Target:

Didn't purchase any, they only had L Word box set.

All of these Targets were in the San Diego area. All were bought for $5.99(except for On Golden Pond). The cashiers at checkout couldn't be happier for me. They were very nice and courteous. At 2nd Target, one of the CSR's was on the phone checking out some of the box sets when I was there. But he didn't stay there long. First two targets still have some more Buffy sets, but that was about it after I left. :editking:

Scan of receipt:

Culver City, CA had Monk season 3, but that seemed to be it that rang up $5.99 on the little price scanners.

DaveCandy 08-10-05 12:14 AM

so, does anyone have any theory about why some targets have $5.99 titles and others don't?

also, i found a few (very few) $5.99 titles at one target, but not all the titles listed in this thread were $5.99. they had some friends and sex in the city, but they were regular price. i wish there was some consistency.

any ideas???

chronoice001 08-10-05 12:21 AM

Well I checked both Targets in Mobile, AL once again. This time I used an employee and thus got the same results. Sadly, nothing was $5.99. :(

cyberlian 08-10-05 12:25 AM

Anyone know if this deal is a go atthe Gainesville, GA or Cumming, GA locations???

But I walk over to the side by the toy section and I almost FALL OVER!

TWO Shopping Carts with EVERY title mentioned in this thread! They obviously pulled the product. I casually peruse these carts and select one of each... glide through a check out lane where the girl had NO idea what I bought and voila!

I am stoked. Only bad thing is NO Band of Brothers!!

is this the one by 1960 or the one by tombal parkway

Ravid 08-10-05 12:35 AM

Picked up the last copy of Band of Brothers for $5.99 at a SuperTarget in Dallas, TX. I scanned a few other sets, but they rang up as regular price. Here's the conversation I had with the checkout girl:

Girl: What is this, a DVD?
Me: Yeah, its a DVD.
Girl: This is the price?
Me: I guess so.

But thankfully she didn't seem to care. This thing is normally $90!

I scanned several box sets and Jaws at another Target and SuperTarget in Plano, but only Friends season 4 was $5.99. I could not find The O.C. or Looney Tunes at any stores I visited, and the last two stores I visited did not have BoB and had only a few copies of the Sex and the City sets.

Some of the sets I saw had new barcode stickers over the original ones, but I peeled them off and they scanned regular price. Some rang up "Item info not available."

Band of Brothers was one of those titles that I've always wanted but never bothered to look for because it was so expensive, but now I own it. I love you, MBradley

Luvmovies24 08-10-05 12:41 AM

Went to both Pasadena, CA stores, the one on Lake street had removed all of the 5.99 titles like somebody had previously mentioned and employees were on different aisles scanning some tv sets, I did manage to get Mary Poppins 2-disc and Pocahanas 2-disc for 5.99 each. They also had some "full screen" titles of SpongeBob S. the movie and Princess Diaries 2 for 5.99, but WS rang up 19.99 ea.
Monrovia store all rang up at regular price.

Each Target is different and all deals there are YMMV. This is one of the most widespread Target deals I've ever seen.

There are reasons they put things on clearance but this is just a flat out price mistake that for some reason just works some places and not at others. I really can't explain it.

Yup, I was at that Target around 5 pm, and the shelves were empty.
