I take it you tried the Merritt Blvd. store with no luck. I haven't been to the store yet to ask them.

The Merritt Blvd, Boston St, and Eastern Ave were all a no-go. In fact, the guy at the Boston St. store said that no store in MD was doing buy-backs, but might around the holidays.

Bummer. I've got about 10 I wanted to trade in.

14 traded for $112 here in Georgia. 4 They wouldn't take: Igor & The Lunatics (Troma), Hercules (Childerns Classics) which was odd b/c they took the Mulan flavor, Straight On Till Morning (Hammer) and the JOY TO THE WORLD freebie (I know long shot - and not the best karma evoking

Nuts,

Both Blockbusters in Cedar Rapids, IA did not have this offer.

In fact, they both had NO IDEA what I was talking about. You'd think they would at least know about it and say that they are not participating.

Oh well.

All the BBV here in Joliet, IL area are doing the sale.

I went today and got credit on 15 of them. I got 3 options on how I could credited...

1. Put the total on a BBV Value Card (Including Tax)
2. Put the total on a BBV Gift Card (minus the Tax...the tax goes into your store credit account)
3. Put the total on your store credit account. However...this option only lets you get credit in that store ONLY.

I chosed the Value Card as you can use that in any BBV. While I was there the BBV CSR told me some lady (who owns a small video store) came in earlier and got a credit of over $3000.

Unreal...

I don't have time to read every page of this thread, but I just don't get how BB is doing this and not losing their pants (if you guys talk about this on another page I'll try and go back to read).
I sold a bunch of games and DVDs that I doubt would have bagged even $5.00 on Ebay. Crappy Xbox titles that they'd normally buy for $1.50 came with a $5.00 bonus per title... that's not a bad deal. Especially when the few okay games I sold totalled out to $12.00 a title w/ the $5.00 bonus. I'm just confused (but very happy) why they are offering such deals.

"but I just don't get how BB is doing this and not losing their pants"

That's why they are only doing this for a few weeks and only in test markets. But if you think about it: Everyone knows what DVD A is worth. BB prices these at 9.99, when we know they are sold for 5.50 new. The catch is that not everyone knows what good prices are. That's probably how they're getting rid of these, i.e. uneducated consumer.

No one actually knows how they are doing this, or at least they haven't posted it.

It definitly comes down to people not knowing... I just sold Mars Attacks last night to BBV and I only paid $3.99 for it a few weeks ago. The guy was going to keep it for himself and said that they charge $9.99 for the used ones. Guess not everyone realizes that there are much cheaper prices out there... still I love this deal.

Got my in today with 20 DVDs. Of those 20 DVDs, one of them was the Simple Life 2 Promotional DVD that I got free at Best Buy (I figured I'd try). Of course it didn't ring through, but the cashier was like "Oh I know this will sell, this is such a good show". SHe looked up the Simple Life 2 and rang it through. So 8.00 for paying 0 is a winner for me.

In thinking about how Blockbuster could be coming out on top on this deal I think it is actually working to their benefit. You do get credit, but you have to spend it at Blockbuster. Most of the money I am sure is used to purchase New DVDs and Games that are extremely overpriced, or to purchase used DVDs that they have attained from the program anyways, or excess inventory that they are just trying to get rid of. I would need to see the numbers, but I can understand how it could work. Especially when they drop down to paying 5 or so bucks, but have consistent customers because of this promotion.

I'm keeping an eye on the my trade-ins to see how long they sit on the PPV shelves. The titles I dumped have been priced from $6.99 to $19.99. Some very bizarre pricing, because they stickered some decent stuff at $6.99, and then slapped $9.99 stickers on two Alpha titles. One Imax title that you can order new from DDD for $5.99 is stickered at $14.99.

They are going to need a lot of very stupid customers for this to be profitabe, I think.

blockbuster needs to put their security stickers (long black stickers) on the inside of their DVDs. they ruined a perfectly good Fight Club 2 disc I almost got today, but had to get a refund because the stickers ripped apart the packaging.

Not to mention they already had thousands of PRVs they can't get rid of.

Blockbuster is very compeitive with the new games. DVD's they suck..but new games its not bad.. Especially if you got some 2-3$ pawnstore dvds.

They only took two of my Troma films: Def By Temptation and The Chosen One (which actually rang up as a different film).

Anyone have suggestions on the best place to trade the rest of these shlockfests in? Back when I was single I thought they were kind of fun, but now that I have a kid it's like having a loaded gun lying around the house.

So, has anyone verified when this deal ends? I've heard anytime from next week to next month.
