That's bull. Almost all of the 30+ titles I've traded in were originally bought PVD from the same BB. I even joked with the guy about buying Stuck On You off the PVD shelf for $7.99 and then trading it back tomorrow for the $8.

Ok, I am really upset now because I see that you are also in Chicago. I am going straight back to this guy and we will have a "discussion".

Thank you Brent and Metapants.

I think it's fair to say that we should almost never take a BBV employee at their word.

This all goes back to my rant on the chain.

I had some PVD Dvd's from them, and was worried about them not taking it, so I just removed the sticker on the front, and the tag on the back, and magic! Looks like a normal dvd.

I have traded in several PVDs - maybe they meant you can't trade one in that had already been traded in, to prevent people from buying the super-cheap ones at $4.99 and trading them back in for $8.

OTOH, like acidburn said, you can just remove the stickers and go to a different store if need be.

Yes, I traded in ten of these a few weeks ago (the ones duplicated in the season sets), so they are definitely in their system. According to my BBV receipt, South Park Vol. #1 is item #6443774, so that'll give you a start if you take yours back in.

Thanks, I'll try that! I'd like to get another $24 worth of credit

I have encountered many clerks who create policy on their own. I always ask to look at the written policy. They can never seem to back up their verbal policy with the written one - pretty pathetic.

I would just move along to the next closest store, not worth wasting your time arguing when the next employee will probably do it right.

I saw a copy of Icon vs Icon, which sometimes goes for decent money on eBay.

I couldn't believe it, but I saw that someone had traded them the Evil Dead II Tin. I didn't bother to see how much they wanted for it though.

I just traded 40 titles in -- all cheapies that I haven't watched in ages. There were a few PVD's in there, took some Goo Gone and the stickers came right off. Thanks to the OP For this deal.

I just went back to my BBV, and I need to ask you all this.

WHAT DO THEY DO WITH THE DVDS THAT PEOPLE TRADE IN TO THEM!?

At every BBV that I've been to, I will see maybe 4-5 DVDs that are in those thick plastic cases, but that's all. I see people trading in DVDs to them all of the time, it's always going on from what I can tell. Heck, I traded in a slew of em myself and they are no where to be found.

To me this is a mystery, it's like BBV is a black hole for your DVDs once you trade them in, they just vanish.

Do you guys actually ever see them out on the racks?

I've got a feeling that Blockbuster will be changing its format to emphasize PVDs - they are building up a base now, and will unleash closer to the holidays.

The manager said that Blockbuster is trying to turn itself into "pawn store"

Had a run in with an employee today.

Bought a few PVD at the 2 for 20, and bought two more at $4.99 yesterday. Went back today to take the $4.99 ones back.

The employee is like so how was this one pointing at one of the movies. I said I don't know why don't you read the back of the case.

He said hmm..you bought these yesterday. I said OK. So?

And he said just gave me this Fuck you look. Well I just gave him one right back.

He finally said We usually make you wait a few weeks before you bring it back.

Then I said Yeah sure you do. I went on to say, this is Blockbuster's program that they implemented and you can't really do anything about it. Cause if you don't take these as trades, I can go right down the road to a different blockbuster and someone will take them. I ain't got a problem with doing that.

He said "Well I'll trade it this time, but next time you will have to wait a few weeks."

I said whatever just give me the 16 dollar credit.

And then I left.

I won't be going back to that store. Asshole.

There's a rack near the front of my local BBV that has a "2 For $20" deal on previewed DVD's. Unfortunatley, they use their crappy BBV-style cases. I saw some of my old discs up there, so that's where some of them are going

Didn't someone in this thread say they have to hold them for a week or two to send lists to the police or something like that?

Was he rude to you before you said "I don't know why don't you read the back of the case."? If not, why in the world would you say such as that?

I have clerks ask me what I thought of films that I'm trading in at BBV, record stores, and all types of places and they are asking that only because they are really seriously curious.

What did the guy do that was rude before you said that?

Hold on now. You are saying that the ones that you trade in to them, they toss out the real cases and everything and put EVERYTHING including trade ins in those horrible BBV cases?

Please tell me that isn't true. Those cases are the reason why I never, never buy used DVDs at BBV (and Hollywood Video for that matter).

Sounds like you were the asshole first.

As for Brent, at my blockbuster i see some movies put on a rack for sale in their original cases, and others seem to be put in blockbuster cases and shelved with the rest of their ususal PVD's.

Oh, and traded in 4 more movies today and picked up Goodfellas and Shawshank Redemption. Still have about 32 dollars credit from all my trades... not sure what else to get.

Saw most of my trade-in dvds side by side on a rack. The ones with the cover art integrated with the cases were in the plastic enclosure cases while the dvds which you can remove the cover art were in the blockbuster cases.

Actually I left the receipt in the dvd case where I bought them yesterday. I watched him look at the receipt and then ask me how it was.

He just didn't want to take them back and give me $8 for them.

As I traded in a bunch of DVDs prior to the $8 promotion (Hey, I thought I was lucky to get $5-7 at the time,) the seven-day hold period has long since expired and the employees now joking refer to "Karl's section" in the PVDs.

As for Blockbuster not buying back their own PVDs, I know there was a policy against this in the past (a year or so ago,) but I don't know if it's in effect now that they've re-instituted the buy-back program. Since I've always insisted on getting "normal" keep cases for the PVDs I've bought from them and removed any of the remaining stickers from the covers, I haven't had any problems with the one or two I've sold back to them, as there was no real way they could tell if I was selling them back their own products or not.
