My local BB (South Jersey) has a big sign in the window advertising the $8 Trade-in promo. It wasn't there yesterday.

They accepted two of my cheapie $1.00 titles Little Moon and Judd McGraw and Look At Me America. They didn't take my Moulin Rouge 2 Disc because there was no barcode and they refused one DVD that was too scratched up.

I bought a dvd set of the Billy Wilder Collection from Columbia House when it was mispriced at $29.95, I traded the titles individually and got $72 for the set.

And they should stop lying by saying $8 minimum. No one here has gotten anything over $8.
There's flyer in the store with price quotes for other titles and boxed sets. Sopranos they are giving $35 in credit and Friends season 1 $10, Dances With Wolves SE is also going for $10 credit. There are about 10 or more listed between $9 & $10 but I don't remember but a few.

It is hot if you have a bunch of cheap crappie titles, movies you picked up from Pawn Shops or Used DVD stores for little to nothing or old PPV you want to offload. Granted you are not getting cash back, how many places can you go to trade in your unwanted DVDs and get $8 back. Most used catalog DVDs don't fetch more than $5 on ebay.

OR success. The Wilsonville store does not have it advertised yet, but it is participating in the trade in deal.

Some of their prices on 'new' titles are double MSRP. American Pie for $20? HELL NO!

And its really funny they broke street date on one title last week and on its release day its nowhere to be seen and they did not get any Shawshank in today. Odd.

Thanks to the OP for pointing this out, instead of getting $35 for the titles I traded in I got $56.

So you grab a $19.95 DVD you want to buy (and of course, the BB price is $19.95) and use your $16.00 store credit - that means you have to reach in your pocket for another $4.00. Total out of pocket is $15.00 for a $19.95 DVD that you can get for less than $15.00 at many stores and at most websites.

This $8 credit is best used to unload DVDs on your shelf that you no longer want - that's it.
I quite agree. You're wasting your time and gas. Plus you're trading cash for credit; I'd rather have the opportunity to choose where I spent that money. Furthermore, if they don't take one of the discs you picked up, you're out six more dollars. Not worth it.

But not at all a bad idea to get rid of discs that are gathering dust and that you can't get much for anyplace else.

BTW, anybody seen any good secondhand DVDs coming in through this sale?

Personally, I am going to finally clean out my collection to a few favorites. I have over 300 movies and I probably won't watch 50% in the next 5 years. By that time some other format will have probably replaced DVD. I'll take $1200 credit for my movies since my average cost of the ones I would trade in are no more than $10 anyway.

I'll take $29 to do the Shrek 2 deal with 7 rentals for one.

No signs at the Mountlake Terrace BBV, but the $8 per dvd is in effect thru Oct. Traded in 5 for $40. Picked up Aladdin (21.99) and another DVD.

And I believe someone else stated that it was $500 per day, which that same person verified with his local store managers.

This may have been asked before, so bear with me...
Is the credit good at Gamerush, or is that considered a separate entity from Blockbuster? Since game prices are pretty much standard across the board, and Gamerush has some insane trade-in deals, I wouldn't mind using credit on games instead of overpriced DVDs...

Okay...Here's what their flyer says:

Get at least $8 per DVD trade*

*Store credit only. $8 minimum store credit offer available for a limited time only, on DVDs otherwise eligible for trade-in in accordance with Blockbuster's standards for type of DVD, condition of DVD and packaging, all as determined by Blockbuster in it's sole discretion from time to time. DVDs with damaged cover art may be accepted by Blockbuster in its sole discretion but may receive less than $8 store credit. Must be a member and have signed a trading agreement to trade. Trades subject to DVD Trading Terms and Conditions available at store. Amount of store credit subject to change at any time without advance notice. Participating stores only. See store for full details. Offer expiration dat 11/01/04.

I was able to trade in 19 disc for $152 in store credit, which I had them put on a "value card" (same as a gift card); your other option is to have them credit your Blockbuster account.

Most of the dvd's I traded in I had purchased at yard sales from $1 - 3 and then I also had several Previously viewed Blockbuster disc (which nobody else wants).

True, their prices suck...but this is a lot more then I would have gotten elsewhere, so I'm happy.

How is that lying? Has any store that advertised $8 minimum given the customer less than $8 in credit?

Good Luck!

They should still be able to take it. All they have to do is type in the name of the movie. I am sure Cradle to the Grave is available at BBV.

If they say no, tell them to try and type it in.

Yeah it makes no sense to me either. Pawn shops everywhere, and both EB and FYE take video game and dvd trade ins. I don't see how BlockBuster could be having a problem.
