Well, I know my BBV in Winder Ga is doing it. I drove by there last night on the way to the grocery store and there's a 4 foot sign in the window with a giant $8 dvd trade in. Small print says for store credit. I have about 9 that I need to get rid of. I guess I can get the "Star Wars" trilogy now.

Only 2 BB's in my area are participating, and they only take 20 trade ins a day, so I traded in 20 at each store, and will go again tomorrow
. At least I've got some in my area participating!

WOW! I just got back from my local BB (Hurst, Texas - Grapevine HWY).
They will take 20 movies and 10 games per day.
They took all but one movie (A Troma Bela Lugosi DVD), including my Godzilla five-pack cheapies. My local store is participating in the limited time $8 promo, and I got $8 for each one. These were all movies that were only fetching about $4 on eBay before fees, so for me, this was a great opportunity. In fact I wasn't able to get $5 at a recent garage sale for some of these movies!
For the gamers out there, my local store is also offering (for a limited time) and ADDITIONAL $5 PER game if you bring in three or more games (major systems, only, of course). So, that's an automatic $15 bonus. Watch it though. It didn't automatically give me the bonus, so I had to ask for it, but they took care of it no problem!
Good luck fellow DVD-Talkers!

Drove by one store along Daniel Webster Highway in Merrimack, NH and it had a Trade-in sign with $5 on it. NH is tax-free so it may not be as profitable if other nearby states are including tax in the credit.

I just traded in a bunch of DVDs and received $121.xx for them all. I turned around and bought the new special editions of Goodfellas and The Shawshank Redemption, Capturing the Friedmans, and pre-ordered both sets of SCTV (yes, they were still mispriced here).
I put down Blockbuster in the "Many Blockbuster misprices" thread, so allow me to praise them for a moment.
After I had traded everything in, and had the three titles that I wanted to buy that they had in the store, we had a problem. Capturing the Friedmans had a sticker on it with a price of $14.95. I obviously saw that as a great deal, so I was very happy. When they were checking me out though, it scanned as $24.95 in their system, so it was obviously mispriced. I thought nothing of it, and was just going to pass on it, but without my even asking, the clerk checking me out (the assistant manager) took $10 off of the price of my final price, thus allowing me to get CtF for the $14.95 price. I thought that was a great service, and I sincerely thanked the clerk.
On top of that, as I was trading in some games along with my DVDs, they couldn't find the barcode to scan to give me the extra $5 per game, since I traded in three. So, to make it up to me, they gave me a $20 gift card. They virtually just gave me $5, just to make it up to me. Again, many thanks were given from me to the clerk.
On top of all of that, the people I dealt with today at least, were very kind and actually knew exactly what they were doing, understood how to look up DVDs and things in their system, and knew how to get certain things done manually as they accepted my DVDs.
So, for today, I give Blockbuster two thumbs up.

I spoke to the local manager here (Hurst, TX) and she said that the reason there are so many differences among the stores is they are required to abide by local pawn laws.
My store is required to hold all newly aquired trades for 10 days. In Fort Worth (just 10-15 minutes away) they have to submit a list of all new aquisitions to the local authorities within 24 hours of trade.

Simpsons will be more than $8 but it definitely won't be $32. My guess is that it would be $15-$20.

I walked in with 31 unwanted dvds that I couldn't even get $5 for on ebay not to mention the time saved trying to sell them, and walked out with a $250 BB Value card.
What a hassle it would have been to sell these on ebay or half.com...the emails, the packaging, the shipping, etc...
This is a great deal that I'm sure will be short lived.

I can confirm that anything you trade in must have a barcode, and they are very strict on that as well.
We also need to look at the other bright side of this. For many of us, we never buy used DVDs at BBV because they come in those horrible BBV cases, etc... Now that they are accepting trade-ins, they'll start having more and more in the original case with inserts and all that jazz. I'm sure there are some great bargains to have also, as many may take just any old DVD they have not knowing that it could mean a lot to the right people.

Went back and trading in a few more today. I've got enough now to get both a PS2 and a Nintendo DS and only gave up some DVDs and old games I will never miss.
I'm sure in years to come we will talk about that time Blockbuster put themselves out of business with these crazy trade in deals.
BTW, looked through the stuff traded in by other people and most of it was total crap they will never sell. A ton of titles were marked at $6.99 so even if they sell this junk it will have to be at a loss.
