Forgot to mention that a flier I picked up says the $8 DVD offer expires 11/1/04. Not sure how reliable that is or whether BBV will extend it...

I have no idea how they are going to be able to keep this up, even at $5 for each DVD you trade in.

The only bad part about all of this is that I no longer have anything I'm really willing to trade anymore, heh.

What Brent said... you also have the option of getting your account credited but then it's only good for that store. your better off with the value card.

I'm gonna give my 800+ collection another look to see if I can part with more I'll never watch...

Another great side benefit is that I have more room on my storage rack for new releases.

The BBV closest to me is not a GameRush, but they still accept games. They also had the deal that for every three games you trade in, you get $5 extra credit per game.

If we're talking next generation games, most of them will give you around $6-$8 at least, even old games from what I've seen. If you factor in the $5 extra, you can really get something going with that also.

I traded in Viewtiful Joe (PS2) today and they gave me $27 trade credit for it.

Yes, XBOX, PS2, GBA, GCUBE. They are valued at anywhere between $10 and $35 each, plus when you trade in 3 or more, you get an extra $5 each.

How are your experiences with trading in TV dvd's?

They wouldn't take my Beavis & Butt-head discs, neither my Insomniac DVD. I have some other titles I've been thinking about taking in, I don't think their price would be worth it though.

Here is a quick note:

If you take something in and they tell you it didn't come up when they scanned it, then politely ask them to manually see if it's in there. Some employees already know to do this, but many do not. I went to trade in Stuck On You a few weeks ago and the clerk told me I couldn't because it didn't show up in their system when they scanned it. I took it to a different BBV today, and once again it didn't show up, but this time the person understood that for some things they need to manually look them up.

No dice on my TV discs. They did have to manually look up Shallow Hal, and found it. This is trade-in deal is probably just for movies only. That's my guess.

Not true at all stores. I got a PVD of The Gathering Storm at Hollywood video sans UPC barcode. Manager types in title of film. BAM! $8.

Again. No.

Had an extra copy of Simpsons Season 2 without the box. NO UPC Code. Nothin. Took it in asked if it could be traded in. Manager typed in Simpsons. Found season 2. $15 bucks. That is pretty damn good cause I got it used somewhere without the box for about the same thing (I think it was $16 used. But I got a new one with that recent sale on the simpsons box sets).

Well they aren't suppose to do that, it's against policy. I'm sure you can get certain people to go against that rule now and then.

Are they supposed to add "tax" as well to what you trade in? I saw a couple posts showing that they did give that credit (since anything bought will be charged), but when I traded mine in, they only gave the $8 a disc (well, $9 for Chicago).

I went ahead today and made the plunge. I traded in 13 DVD's for a total of $104 credit. A few of my items wouldn't scan but she looked them up and did them manuely. I had the best of friends which was a 4 disc set that each came in it's own box and they gave me $8 for each one. Since some of thes DVD's I had gotten free I had only spent $56.24 for the 13 I now got $104 credit for.

Based on another thread here I used part of my credit to prepay for Looney Toons Gold Collection volume 2 at a $29.99 possible missprice. I also bought Aladdin for $22, which is $6 more than WalMart but I have to use my credit some how. If bought at WalMart although cheaper it would come out of my pocket.

One more stipulation - the case should be marked with the Region 1 symbol or they might reject it. The girl who took my trades couldn't take my Elite Evil Dead SCE because the region is not marked - but she said I should bring it back when the manager is there and he could probably take it. (It is a region 1, just not marked).

I saw one of those crappy "American Heroes : Marines" from the Walmart dump bin, priced at $4.99 - if you wanted, you could buy it and trade it back in for $3 extra credit.

Sorry for not reading all 15 pages but do you require an account with them to participate in this trade-in offer? Thanks in advance!

Yes. Be sure to bring either a credit card or a driver's license and a recent bill (so they can verify your address). They also require you to sign a document stating that you will be held responsible for any stolen merchandise you trade in, et cetera.

That seems to depend on the locality - they aren't doing it in this area. It really makes sense to give you the tax (which they should get to deduct), since otherwise the goverment gets to tax each item twice - when the disc you traded in is purchased, and again when you use your credit.

Think about it this way - when they did the trade in deal with the new release for $12.99, you only paid tax on the $12.99 not on the amount the DVD was reduced by the trade.

Sorry but that is a little unclear to me, do I need to bring all 3 of what you listed? I don't have a Credit Card but do have an ATM card, will that be okay?

Is there a Blockbuster in Seneca (I used to go to the Seneca Wal-Mart all the time)? Have you ever been to the BBV in Clemson? I haven't been there since my Freshman year which was two years ago. I live off campus now. Wonder if they do trade in. I could just pop by there one day when I get out of class.

Hmmm.

It has to be a credit card (with a logo).

Does your "ATM" card have a VISA/MC/other major credit card logo on it? I have a card that I got from the bank when I opened my checking account and it can be used as a credit card or to take cash out of an ATM. The bank you got your account at is sucky if they don't have credit and debit card as an option. Try a new bank.
