Success at the Cincinnati/Western Hills location. I traded in 11 discs and got $8 for every one. Just for kicks, I took in three R0 imports from Hong Kong, but none of them were accepted.

I'm waiting to see if they'll have a Black Friday sale of any sort, since I wouldn't mind using the credit towards a gaming console.

They would not let me do this.

Both of the locations near me were participating. I went to Lodi, NJ and traded in 10 DVDs. I received $8.00 for each one. I am going to save my credit for the 2nd wave of Monster Legacy DVDs.

Traded in 97 Dvd's...Broke them up at 3 Blockbusters...They were not cheepo titles. Most were the 3 for 25 previously viewed from Blockbuster. They took every one and I never got more than 8.00 for any of em.

Tried to get the Friday the 13th box set but all were on "hold" for other customers. Probably got in on the 30.00 misprice.

I had no idea they stopped price matching. They are insane with their prices. I know I have all this credit and I can't complain but when I asked a manager why prices are soooo high the manager said "you gotta understand we can't get prices from the studios like BesBuy so we charge more."

I said that was understandable BUT there are plenty of stores that are even smaller companies than Mega Blockbuster that probably order 1/4 as many dvds as Blockbuster and they are reasonable on new releases.

He started again with "we can't buy as much as..."

I said that to a customer, it's not on their mind if Blockbuter pays more for their inventory...bla, bla, bla. All we see is crazy high prices at Blockbuster and deals at the other chains.

He said he never thought of it that way....

ARRGH! I had seen this thread for the past month, but never ventured to read it, since I despise Blockbuster. Only read it because this deal was referenced in another thread.

I just sold a handful of DVD's on Ebay that got around $5 - $6. I guess I'll have to be happy with the cash rather than BBV credit (eeewwwww!).

For me, it is a really good deal. I buy most of my DVDs used during their 3/$25 deal anyway, so it makes sense for me to trade in stuff I don't want anymore but wouldn't take the time to sell on eBay. Since it's an $8 minimum and it's ~$8 per disc during their sales, it's a pretty simple/even equation for me.

It's not that Blockbuster isn't ALLOWED to take trade-ins per se, it's that they have to get through all the legal red tape to become licensed/approved to do so. Pawn shops and other retailers have already done this, Blockbuster is new to the game.

I would agree but from the sounds of it some of the stores I talked to said they were never going to do it.

it makes sense... the local municipality probably wants to treat them like a pawn shop since they want to trade in used goods...this is a HUGE hassle since they would have to send daily reports to the local authorities about everything they buy so that it could be checked against theft databases... if it were my video store and they wanted to treat it like a pawn shop I would probably say screw it (especially since the DVDs have no serial numbers, making them impossible to prove for certain that they are the ones that were stolen, unlike many items sold through pawn shops)

Yeah, if you net $5-$6 in cash after all of the listing fees, seller's fees, paypal fees and gas to the Post Office, etc. you are getting a better deal.

It's not a big hassle for EB Games or FYE to do it. What I'm wondering is why would Blockbuster have any more trouble than those two in getting set up.

Just got back from a second visit, and they took all 18 DVDs I had, all at the $8 level. The batch included titles on Diamond, Alpha, Delta/Laserlight and Madacy (it was one of the very first DVDs I ever bought, when I didn't know better!).

Now figure this out - one of the DVDs they took from me last evening for $8 is now on the PVD shelf with a $6.99 price. So I guess if I had "seller remorse" I could have bought it, and still had a $1 credit AND have my DVD back. Hmm .... if I did buy it back, I guess I could just turn around immediately ("no, I don't need a bag for that") and sell it back to them for $8 credit .... I wonder how long I could keep that cycle going ....

lol only problem i found is what to do with the credits earned, i bought all the Criterions they had at both stores and had them order me two more so out of $600 blockbuster credit im down to $370 :P still have to love it got rid of so many bad movies i bought over the years

Hell in UT, your hours are restricted to 6:00 p.m. when you 'take in' used product.

State to state, county to county, and definitely city to city its all different. There are reasons EB and FYE are not in every state.

But what if someone came in with say 30 DVDs and their was a police report filed of a theft of those exact 30 titles. I'd say that would be a prettty good lead to who actually stoled them.

one thing to remember is anyone that is interested in video games, their prices on video games and consoles are basically the same as everyone else (often cheaper if you use different combinations of promotions at gamerush)....i may hold out for a nintendo ds....

WRONG. Some managers will not take back any DVDs without barcodes. WRONG. Most stores will not take back the DISC, they MUST inlude the coverart. You just got lucky. The 'markdown' is if the cover is damaged a bit.

If anyone is on Long Island, I just got back from the West Babylon Blockbuster. Took all 20 of mine without a problem, now I just don't know what to buy

I called the peabody, MA store and the swampscott, MA store and neither one are participating at this time, big surprise. They said none of the others in the area are participating either.

absolutely true... also entirely possible that the aforementioned EB and FYE are not technically "in city limits" while the BlockBuster is...

I agree with that, but that doesn't make it any less of a hassle for very little return... chances are that it would be seldom that anyone would be caught this way and even if they were, it could be difficult to prosecute...

Actually, the EB and FYE are right next to each other in the mall and the BlockBuster is 2 miles away, well within city and county limits. There are probably 3 EB's, 3 FYE's and 10 BBV's in Hillsborough County, not to mention 1,000 pawn shops. It still seems odd that BBV is having a problem, especially in this city.

I was at a blockbuster in Chicago, IL at 9:30pm with my dvds ready to trade and after filling out the form, she went to enter it in her system and found out that she is not allowed to take trades after 9pm. Is this a blockbuster policy or something with local chicago laws? Anyone else experience this?

i called my local store and they said this is a corporate store deal only and there are no corporate stores in my country. argh!

I called several of them, and a couple of them said that the Twin Cities are not one of the test markets, but they might start doing it next year.
