Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

This cover just looks weird. The boys look ok, but Batman and Superman looks like they are about to make out. I don't think that is what the artist was going for. They should have put Superman and Batman in the same postures and faces as the boys.

I think they wanted to show off the differences in height between Superman and Batman. Though Jon's smirk is not smoothly drawn and looks off.

Collectors probably didn't want them because they were all reprints in black and white of what was originally in color. I would think they are more in line with collectors of monster / horror magazines.

I think there were some original stories in some of the mags, especially later on (if I remember correctly in the book I read about the history of the publishing company) and a lot of the reprints were heavily reworked/redrawn, so I guess that would generate some interest, but the main draw is the gonzo covers. I recall that back in the day, most collectors who collected the Warren and Marvel b&w monster mags wanted nothing to do with these, as if having one or two in your collection would somehow infect your other mags, they were so yucky and sleezy.

Hmmm, I don't remember that Zorro series by Marvel at all and that was during the period I was practically picking up every Marvel book.

I actually had several of these. Short run of 12 issues from 1990 to 1991. Most of the covers are pretty generic. That was one of the better ones. Here are a few more.

^I remember as a kid that if I ever got to see an old Looney Tunes rerun and it was with the old, original Bugs Bunny design, I felt I was watching something rare and special!

No idea why but finding those Joker comics from the 70s in nice condition is extremely difficult unless you're willing to pay a real premium. Finding them even in Fine condition can be a chore. There is an omnibus, which I own, but if you want to own a NM run of the entire series - good luck.

Dang! That's crazy! I have a few issues older than that, but never saw that one before. Fire the editor!
