Re: George Perez reveals he has inoperable cancer

Yeah, this is going quickly. He's not in hospice because of imminent death, but because it takes the burden off his family. Still, just over the last couple of months he's clearly declined quickly.

And yet his outlook and attitude is so positive. I'm just amazed by the guy.

I asked about JLA/Avengers at my local shop, and I’m sure I’m not going to get a copy unless I go online and pay scalper rates. I also realized that I think I never read this. Maybe someday…

I asked as well. I even would have prepaid for it. They told me they are not sure how many they will be getting. And they cannot guarantee they'll even be able to fulfill for their regular customer's pull lists.

Looks like it will be scalper prices for sure.

I mean, if you want the original issues, they're not really that valuable as far as I can tell. Certainly a lot cheaper than $30 for 4 issues. I have them somewhere.

Nope, they have been $100+ set for awhile now, and went up higher after Perez news.

Gotcha. I don't know where a good place to price them is, I've been out of the market for so long. I used to use comicspriceguide.com, and that's what I checked, which shows them listed at like $6 per issue. I checked after seeing the information about the reprint this thread. They are definitely in one of my long boxes though.

Keep in mind this new release also contains the compendium. Which had been a second book. Which if memory serves was only available with an expensive hard cover 2 pack edition with the collected hardcover for the series.

Recently ended eBay auctions for the set are all in the $125-$175 range. Who knows how long that will last. Might depend on how hard it is to get a copy of the new tpb and, sadly, the timing of when George actually passes.

I've already given up on getting a legit copy of the tpb. I just went ahead and read a scan. I probably won't ever feel the need to read it again. I still don't know why I didn't buy it when the series was new. I remember when it was released and it was during a time when I was visiting the shop every week and buying a lot.

Our local comic book store which has five stores in the area says they ae only expecting to receive 2-3 copies even though they purchase a huge volume of books for their locations. They announced that they will be auctioning off the copies they receive and donating it to the George Perez charity.

That's kind cool that he gets to see the tributes before he dies.

I hope DC sells this as a poster.

I got to believe that is in the cards with all proceeds going to cancer research or some such charity.

That would be the logical thing to do, but we are talking about DC Comics after another company merger, so logic goes out the window.
