Lots of people complaining on social media that stores priced all these books on release day for between $20-50. That’s a great way to drive customers out of the business. And this wasn’t only for people who came to the store and were trying to pick up the books from the shelves. By many accounts it happened to people who had these books on their pull list.
Pricks. I stopped going to LCS's long before the virus - and one of the reasons was bullshit like this. And, during a time when people don't want to shop in brick & mortar stores due to the virus (and because it's a lot cheaper & more convenient to get books online anyway), they still pull shit like this?! What nimrods.

This sounds terrible but I don't have a real problem with shops pulling that stunt if they are in dire financial problems. 2020 has been pure hell on retail shops. Many are in pure survival mode these days, especially the ones in certain states with onerous lockdowns.

It's sacrificing long-term customer goodwill for the sake of addressing immediate cashflow problems.

Even if you're in dire financial straights, how many pull requests can you possibly have? I'd think the last thing you'd want is to tick off the only loyal customers left for a quick buck. But I'm not businessman, so...

It's definitely a sleazy tactic but I see it as the continuing twilight of the industry. I just wish comic book shops were in a healthier position but the last couple years have been brutal on their economics.

I completely disagree with this. And, any company that thinks like this is going to continue to alienate & lose customers. As has been said many times on this thread, fewer & fewer comic fans/collectors frequent LCS's anyway these days....given that everyone knows you can easily order the books you want online - which is typically cheaper & definitely a hell of a lot more convenient than buying the books at a brick & mortar store.

If anything, niche stores like this should look for ways to get more customers into the stores, instead of alienating/driving away the few customers they have left.

And, LCS's in my area were pulling shit like this well before the pandemic this year, which is one of the reasons I stopped going to them in the first place. I.e., this is not just happening because of the virus.

They can shove their overpriced floppies up their collective asses. Fuck them.
