The only way to make Legion relevant in 2016 would be to add Batman to their roster. I am only half-joking. Forcing the Batfans to pick up Legion would be great, because the two fanbases aren't remotely similar.

Batman and the Legion of Superheroes. Think about it. Let Grant Morrison write the book.

That might be an interesting idea. He Legion was inspired by Supermam/Boy right (I'm forgetting how this has been retconned over the years). Have some members doing research and find out info on Batman. They bring him to the future to study from the best. Or send someone like Tim Drake to the future so he can have his own nonredundant place to exist.

I don't know if you're joking, but didn't they already do this, sending Tim Drake to be Batman Beyond or something like that?

Not joking, I just haven't read much DC for the last decade.

Yes. Tim Drake is the new Batman Beyond. Terry McGinnis died during The New 52: Futures End.

I like Tim Drake as much as the next immortal superhero, but he's no Bruce Wayne. Batman himself should be trapped in the 31st Century for one year. An angry Darkseid could pull it off.

Yes, that what makes it interesting, but if DC is promoting that they are revealing his name in Justice League 50 and they don't do that, then it's a bait and switch and that hurts retailers. If they promised something, they need to do it, even if it sucks.

True. That's false advertising, and if someone is pissed, I can't blame them.
I wonder how pissed the majority of fans will be. Do you like the actual reveal, or do you wish they just gave a name?

Is this book already out, or is it coming out at midnight along with Rebirth?

DC and Marvel allowed sales on all of today's books at midnight. Which is helpful on DC's end since it included Justice League #50 and Superman #52 which lead into Rebirth.

I haven't been a regular at my local comic shop in years, so I don't know if they did, but I can't see them opening at midnight to sell comics. The regulars all have their stuff put aside in boxes and pick them up at their convenience, and the walkup business for something like this is minimal, even at normal hours.

Read it. Loved it. Probably one of the best comics I have read.

Don't they always allow at, since comixology gets to release stuff at midnight always? I just figured there were few events big enough to really get comic stores to open that late.

So I'm several years behind in DC continuity, but plan to catch up in the next year or two. Read the first arc of most of the new 52 but nothing since. Still, I'm super tempted to buy these three books and see if Rebirth gets me back into staying current.

Was just at my local store. Picked up those three books, and a free poster they had for buying Rebirth. Got to the register and thought to myself, "what the heck am doing?! $13 for three books? I own every other book I want for $1 per issue or less. I can wait."

I put them back and left the store empty-handed. But now I'm holding my keys and thinking about going back.

At least get Rebirth for $2.99. It's 80 pages for 3 bucks. You don't need the other two unless you really want them. The Superman book is the 8th part of a two month storyline and Justice League #50 is the end of the 10 part Darkseid War. You'd be lost anyways.

Most of what's in those two issues have been spoiled online.

Spoiler:
Three Jokers. New 52 Superman dies.

For me, Rebirth really felt like a pre-New 52 book. Some parts hit me right in the feels.

Ok, you had me convinced that I should have at least bought Rebirth. I was absolutely going to go back to the store and buy it, but then someone on Facebook posted that the DC Films page was giving away 2500 copies. Downloading now.

Thanks for the advice. Will read it and report back later.

If you buy a physical copy and don't like it, Geoff Johns has offered to buy it back from you (shipping included) if you send it to Warner Bros.

I'm 28 pages in and I don't think there's much chance of me returning it.

Also, that reminded me that I probably preordered issue 1 at least thru DCBS.

Re: DC Comics to relaunch everything with #1s in June 2016

Well, let's not start sucking each other's dicks quite yet. Next week will be the true test when Rebirth really kicks in.

Bit worried that this will be Johns' last book in a while. I hope his new chores with DC Films doesn't keep him from overseeing Rebirth's continued story. Looking forward to Action Comics, Wonder Woman and Green Lanterns. I'm even going to give Red Hood a read because the set up looks interesting. For the start up tho, I'm going to grab a lot of the Rebirth one-shots.

Oh yeah,
Spoiler:
Possible spoilers for Alan Moore's Promethea here too, so caution...
Spoiler:
I wonder if this reveal is going to share similarities with Alan Moore's Joker analogue, the Painted Doll. In Promethea, he was a Joker-like villain, who always seemed to cheat death, but it was later revealed that he was just one of many androids, and after being destroyed, another would be reactivated in it's place, not knowing it was an artificial being.

Spoiler:

I actually liked the ending. It didn't break the mystery of the Joker, humanize him or anything like that. It also gave Batman a mission to be a detective once again and find out what's going on.

I was surprised on how well Rebirth #1 and Justice League #50 did. Rebirth 1 became our best selling book so far with over 450 copies sold. We sold out of all covers by 4pm.

On the other hand, people were extremely pissed at Marvel for what happened in Captain America. Many feel that this was done as a gimmick to steal some thunder from DC and their Rebirth. Marvel truly did steal press by doing this on the Cap book.

Yeah I have no doubt Marvel did this to steal some press from Rebirth. They love getting cheap press with shit like this.

Really? The BEST comic you've read in a while? I read it last night (thanks for the tip on the free digital copy) and I enjoyed it well enough. I'm thrilled to see Wally back and no one is better than Geoff Johns at taking years of messy continuity and untangling it and crafting an engaging and accessible story. Sure he may have had a big part in creating that mess, but credit where credit's due.

Still, as much as I enjoyed the story, it's ultimately just another in a long line of Crisis variations. I feel like I've read this story half a dozen times already. Like Valeyard said, ultimately it's the new series that spin out from this that will make or break it, but even then, I have to imagine that the new status quo will just get turned on its head again within the next 5 years.
