Re: Marvel Relaunches In October With Marvel NOW

I liked it; I thought it was pretty cool. It sounds crazy, but if you read the story it's really nice. I also really like the Avenging Spider-Man tie-in that had Otto putting together a new Spidey-suit. I'm sure Peter will come back at some point; at this point he's dead in every Marvel comic universe, right?

Peter Parker as Spider-Man is bigger than any one writer or editor, and just like DC would never really kill off Bruce Wayne, the time away with another Batman was a really cool concept (IMO). Slott's pulled off some crazy things in this run, so I bet he's got a way to get Peter back.

I want to track down the rest of this line now, either at the beginning of the Big Time run (#648) or all the way back to #600. I've got to decided on if I want to do it in trade or monthlies, though...

Damn, some of these actually sound interesting. I haven't bought monthly books in many a year, though...

Amazing Spider-man 600 to 655 are on sale at comixology for 99c each (if you just want to read them, I'm pretty sure that's still much cheaper than buying trades at this point, plus you can get discounted itunes cards in multiple places right now)

The Spider-Man stuff sounds awful but then again, Marvel lost me years ago with their casual disregard for their characters.

Aren't you still following DC, though? They seem to have the same problem, only magnified.

Yes, but the only character that DC has really gone overboard with is Batman, probably the most "Marvel" of the DC characters. It helps that Batman has had excellent creative teams for most of the past decade, so I have been more tolerant with them. I would not compare DC's overall stories since 2000 in any way with Marvel's drastic wholesale changes every other year or so. Marvel has still turned out some good stories, but it's the wildly inconsistent tone and approach that I dislike. DC clearly has long-term plans in mind when they make a story, even if they don't hold to it. Marvel will do anything to the characters for sales in the short term. It's that type of reckless storytelling that is unsustainable and produces the dumb retcons like Mephisto/Spider-Man.

Read the Avenging Spiderman issue. Doc Ock better make some changes. Sure doesn't have the Spiderman attitude. I say Peter will be back within 6 months.

With 2 issues of Captain America, i'm done. I dont know why Marvel lets Remender write whatever crazy shit he can think of like this and Franken-Castle

Spoiler:
So issue #1 Cap is stranded in Dimension Z. first page of #2, "1 year later" Still stuck. Ok whatever. Cap is on Mars in Avengers, chasing Red Skull in Uncanny Avengers, and now stuck in Z for a year in his own title.

Yeah, but I'm sure when he comes back from some different dimension, no matter how long it's been there, only a few minutes, or seconds, will have gone by here. But yeah, that shit's stupid.

Re: Marvel Relaunches In October With Marvel NOW

Is it any good, though? I actually liked Franken Castle. And while I'm still a continuity stickler, I can appreciate a good story that isn't tied down to continuity with other titles, especially because I usually read stuff way after it was originally released anyway, and the status quo changed multiple times since then.

Speaking of which, how does Avenging SM work? Is SM no longer in the Avengers, or the FF, or do they just ignore that?

I'm not sure. It's Remender and JRjr, so it's not bad. It doesn't feel like Cap to me, but I think it's a pretty good book in the vein of Killraven or Kamandi. The problem is, my brain keeps saying "When is Cap going to punch Batroc and Flag-Smasher?" so I'm having a hard time accepting it.

For what it's worth, I plan to keep buying it for at least another issue or two to see if it clicks with me.

I dont like it personally. I am not a fan of the crazy 70's story that this is an homage to. Bru and Ultimates made me really like Cap and those are gritty stories. This just feels too sci-fi for me. Plus trapped in hell protecting a small child was already done recently in Cable.

LOL

He probably had to wait until his mother went down to the market or she'd be yelling down the basement stairs to be quiet.

What I was really hoping for was him to go nuts and smash the stuff behind him. Especially that green head.

BTW: Was that a Halo logo tatooed behind his ear?

"all the guys at the comic shop told me to wait..."

Can you imagine how awful it would be to be the guys at the comic shop.

The guy on that video is why I started picking up my comics once a month from my LCS. I couldn't handle that on a weekly basis. There's always someone in the store who acts exactly like that.

Marvel are such pussies. The entire first issue was great, until the end where I had to roll my eyes. This will be dropped as soon as he returns, if not sooner.

Yup, canceling pre-order of 5 and 6 now.

(W) Dan Slott (A) Giuseppe Camuncoli (CA) Mark Bagley 'Death Sentence' • How many have to die before the Superior Spider-Man will kill a super villain? • Spider-Man versus Massacre-- with hundreds of lives in the balance.

Um yeah. He's not going to do it now.
