Usagi Yojimbo went to IDW. I’m sure there are some others I’m forgetting.
The lost The Goon too and Eric Powell in general. Things went downhill for them when they lost Star Wars and then it became public that Brian Wood is a creep. Wood had a lot of series on the works at that time. Dark Horse is now depending on the creations of Matt Kindt and Jeff Lemire. I also feel that either due to bad marketing or something, the Strangers Things books didn't reach the level of popularity they were looking for. For years, the sale of Star Wars books allowed them to be able to pay more than other indy companies. That's not the case now, as IDW, BOOM and Image have better deals all around.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

I still think Dark Horse is my favorite publisher, thanks to the Mignolaverse, the Black Hammer books, and the solid original work from Kindt and Lemire and others. But yeah, it used to be a slam dunk best back when they had Usagi and Star Wars and Conan and the Goon too.

I don’t know, maybe Image is my favorite.

Yeah, they've been in kind of a bad place for a few years now. They lost most of their big licenses like Star Wars, Conan, and Buffy.

And there's not a lot of original/creator-owned material. Mignola seems to have, more or less, ended Hellboy, and Frank Miller hasn't done any new Sin City for two decades.

They seem to put out a lot of miniseries and Berger Books, but most of them just feel like so much background noise.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

Speaking of free comics, I learned a new (?) feature on the Comixology app. If you search for a publisher and click on them, the main page of each publisher has a free comics tab. I spot checked a few publishers and saw hundreds if not over a thousand freebies. All were marked “download” or “read” for me, but I’m guessing that they’d say “free” if I hadn’t purchased them all already.

I just noticed that the other night on the app on my phone (maybe on the Kindle as well.) If it says "download" you've already "bought" it, if you're Unlimited it says "borrow" but you can tap into the details and select Add to Cart to "own" it for free.
Also learned from scrolling through the publishers, there's a lot of publishers.

Unfortunately, Comixology seems to have changed things a bit, at least on the app. I found free titles that were marked “download”, as if I already owned them, that were not in my collection. When I clicked download it first purchased them, and then started the download. The website still shows them as free but unowned. Booger, was hoping to have an easy way to show ”unbought” freebies.

Is this for Android or iOS? Cause I can't seem to find this on iOS.

it’s iOS. Iirc, doesn’t work from the publishers list. You have to search for a publisher, click on it, then look for the free tab. Not all have it.

Through this method I found a Max Payne 3 tie-in comic Marvel put out, that seems to have since been delisted from Comixology. All 3 issues are still available for "purchase" on the app's Marvel free comics tab but there is no way to get to them on the site to add them to your library (They don't show up in searches or have store pages).

So poking around in the publisher's free sections some more might be worth it.

Some amazing books in there, and a bunch that I’ve been meaning to try. $15 for even a fraction of that is a no brainer, let alone the whole thing.

How come no one told me about the Comixology 'Recently Reduced' link? I see a few more freebies in there too.

Hmmm. I’ve checked that page a lot over the years, but don’t remember the freebies showing up there before.

Added link to wiki.

Over 250 Scooby-Doo comics are free at Comixology and other comic book apps. Kinda pain in the ass to find them all though as you have to search for Scooby-Doo, not Scooby or Scooby Doo.

I'm hoping the collections cover all the single issues available?

edited to add: nope, only team-up and select stories from the mainline series. sigh.

At least there's an "add all to cart" button and they seem to have removed the cart limit I think I remember them having before.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

Easier to find and buy them at Amazon, and then you get both kindle and Comixology versions in one purchase.

Great books by the way, particularly the team ups.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

Only found 214 titles. Somehow in the mix of things it also purchased a "set" of titles and charged me over $25. In order to return the "collection" it wanted me to do a return book my book. So off to get help via the PC to get that corrected.
