Thanks, Quake.
As for CW2, well, I think it suffers the same thing that all crossovers suffer: It's too fast paced. I liked the story, but every page seemed to be another character or days later. I'm assuming I can fill in the gaps by reading all the other comics, but I just want a mini that's self contained.
With that said, I did enjoy it but wasn't surprised by that ending.

I just read the 1st 2 issues this morning and I was hooked. I bought the 1st issue just to see what was up but I didn't really have an interest in Checkmate so I was surprised at how much I liked it. With that said, I have no doubt that the same "ho hum" attitudes shown here(after only 2 or 3 issues) will get this book canceled soon.

I had asked a question about why Alan Scott(Green Lantern JSA) was the "White King" to Amanda Waller's "White Queen" and it all made perfect sense once I read the story. Checkmate is a direct result of all the Brother Eye, Max Lord, Batman shit that went down in the DCU over the past year or so. Metahumans and Non-Metas balancing each other in the Checkmate organization.
Oh well. I'll enjoy it while I can.

Another week, more dropped titles. This week I'll be saying goodbye to JLA Classified, Sensational Spider-Man and Squadron Supreme.
Squadron was especially disappointing. The story moves at the pace of a snail on a thorozine cocktail. JMS can do much better than this.
Sensational Spider-Man's story has been crap. I hope that JMS' lethargic writing doesn't bleed into his Amazing Spider-Man stories, or else the only spider book I'll have left will be Ultimate Spider-Man.

What really pissed me off is that they had a pretty good mature readers super-hero book going. And, this being Marvel, they couldn't stand something succeeding without it being a generic pile of shit.
Seems like a ton of people are dissatisfied with the new direction of "Squadron Supreme" and reading the news that they're going to a do an "Ultimate Power" crossover with the Ultimate Universe (gag), I'm glad I jumped off of that ship when I did.
I really, really hope "Squadron Supreme" bleeds off its sales and gets cancelled just to teach Marvel a lesson. (It's a lesson I don't think they'll learn anything from, but it'll still feel good to see them get their ass handed to them.)

Yeah, I was seriously considering bailing on it then also, but I decided to give it a chance because it was JMS. It was a bad move on Marvel's part to give us an adult-themed introduction only to yank it back to a kiddie book.

It's dismissive to call it a kiddie book. I guess if you want excessive violence and big boobs go read Image Comics from the 90s. Even some of the big concepts he laid down in Supreme Power have been done before - and much better too. The whole "evil Superman" storyline was a pathetic rip-off of Miracleman - from the "engineered hero from an alien source" to his horrific rampage that is stopped almost at the cost of the hero's lives. It's just amazing that he had over 18 (?) issues to work with and there was ZERO character development.

Wasn't the same said about the whole House of M after math with mutants getting their powers? How long has it been and the mutants still don't have their power.
Not to mention this would have to be a pretty big retconned item to just make everyone forget Peter Parker = Spiderman. Especially JJJ.

I said that, and I'll stand by it. Over in New Avengers, they've found the poor schlep that all the stolen mutant powers have gone into, so it's only a matter of time before he loses them and the mutants get them back.
Furthermore - if you look at the way the stories have gone, this is still the House of M aftermath. The reason that the government is looking closer at the regular superheroes is because the "mutant menace" is pretty much gone, and it easier to keep an eye on.
And I have to say that I'm very surprised that they pulled the Spider-Man is Peter Parker trigger. They'd have to do something rather complicated to change this and not piss off the fans.

I'm actually enjoying Squadron Supreme right now. I've been on the fence about dropping it a number of times since it's debut, but they're finally starting to come together as a team and going on missions.
Oh and anyone who likes the Punisher and isn't reading this current Barracuda storyline is really missing out. It is SO freakin' violent!

Oh, and Wolverine Origins is really stupid. Way seems to want to be Garth Ennis really bad...coincidently working with Steve Dillon...but, he's just pissing all over Wolvie.

Yah, not too happy with Origins either. Not really sure where I stand on the regular Wolvie series either.
I'm really liking the CW stuff. Much more character driven than all of the House of M stuff.
Is anyone reading the current BPRD series? Not as action packed as The Black Flame, but pretty interesting. Just finished the third issue.

I'm not saying that all the event stories we've been seeing lately are going to immediately revert to the status quo, but that given time, say, a few years, we'll see it all go back to the way it was. Take "Our Worlds At War". Everyone who died came back! they didn't even give a good explanation for Guy coming back, unless it was that whole stupid "i'm a super alien and can never die" crap.
Even Avengers Disassembled - they killed off characters no one cared about, and the big one - Hawkeye, turned up only a few months later in House of M. It's only a matter of time before he's back on his feet.
This is one thing that really irks me about mainstream comics. They have the capacity to tell good stories without having to completely alter their lives, and yet they feel it's necessary even though everything always goes back to square one, because they're more marketing tools than characters. I'm not saying I don't like the stories or the characters, but I just tire of seeing these so-called big events that always fizzle out in the end. Reading a book like The Walking Dead, which engrosses you with the characters because there's actual tension, I realize that kind of tension has been missing from mainstream DCU and Marvel comics for years.
That and DC and Marvel lately have really been strange lately with their big events. Civil War feels like such an isolated incident and yet it's being inflated to epic proportions. When I read Planet X it felt like an epic story that was deflated to fit into only one title, and it was still a better story than AD, House of M, and Civil War (so far). Superman during the Azzarello run also confused the hell out of me before i dropped it.
Another book dropped this week: Ultimate X-men. They should change the title of this book to "The X-men Movies Comic".
