The All-New, All Spectacular, Now That's a Comic Book Thread (Oct)

I had to start a new thread. Why? Because I just read JLA 119. Holy crap! Sure, the ending was great and it leads into Infinite Crisis and at least the next few storylines as the
Spoiler:
team disbands after Zatanna saves them from the mind of Dispero.
But the thing that caught me off guard the most? Batman's comment about
Spoiler:
Catwoman possibly being mind-altered to become a good guy.
What a totally cool idea. To make him question that. Imagine where DC can take the character with that information.

Great stuff. I can't wait to read IC.

Please tell me someone else has read this and is ready to discuss.

I actually think that mindwiping
Spoiler:
catwoman
is a waste of an idea. I could see it in the previews for the coming months catwoman guest starring Ol' Zee, but I really think they are abusing this little backdoor excuse a bit to much.

The main issue is that Crisis is finally here with JLA 119.. Considering the potential that
Spoiler:
Ol' Manhunter may be dead from the explosion on the moon.

Infact, the real great thing that came out today (which is still september) was Plastic Man. I love this book and I am sad that Kyle will be leaving and the book will be canceled in another two or so issues. The great use of comedy in a very serious DC Universe was awsome. Teen Spectre had me rolling.

Getting back to the main titles. Flash was complete filler and totally outside of Crisis relations. I miss Johns already.

Omac was great. I like what they are doing to the JLA/JLI members. Especially Booster Gold.

I'm not reading OMAC, but I did look at that last page. Very nice indeed.

As for
Spoiler:
Catwoman, I'm already looking forward to issue 50.

Recharge is great.

Read Omac first than 119.

You have to love that Batman has trust issues and yet jumps from sasha to selina on the drop of a hat.

Yeah what's up with Selina and Bats? Obviously the sexual tension and flirtation is legendary in Batlore but lately it really looks as if bats is "hittin it" with Selina.

Ah, yeah. You know Mr. Wayne's tappin' that. My question is this: when did Bruce reveal his identity? I'm reading HUSH and it seems to take place here, but I thought that had already happened.

Has Batman known Catwoman was Selina since the beginning?

Impatient for the second order already, are we?

I placed my last order on 09-01, the day it was updated. I would expect the soonest would be this weekend.

Man, how do you guys know what you want to order next month before getting the next Previews? I always wait until my monthly shipment comes from mailordercomics so I can get the catalog, and even then it takes me a few weeks to get through it (after all, the comics take priority!). I generally mark up the booklet with everything I could reasonably want. Then I go through the heavily discounted stuff and add everything that's under a buck, just to try it out, and see what's more than 50% off that stands out. When the total comes out to 400 bucks or so, I pare that down and figure out what I really want. But I barely get it done by the deadline at the end of the month...

I spend about 3 hours on Previews the day it comes out. I write down everything I'm interested in. If it's all under $150, we're good. If not, I weed out the comics I'm only iffy on.

james,

dcbs usually updates their site in the first few days of the month, sometimes it takes a bit longer though. i understand though. it's always a great 20 minutes or so scrolling through to see what they have discounted for the month.

Thanks to the recommendations of a lot of you, October is my first month of receiving books from DCBS. I can't wait. The money I saved based on what I would have spent at my locals was sick.

Yeah JLA 119 was pretty dope and I like the little twist as well. Never even looked at it that way.
Spoiler:
What I really want to know is what's the deal with Superman. Being mind controlled from beyond the grave by Max Lord?

I'm just surprised at the beginning of all this what I thought the Infinite Crisis was going to be and where it actually is now. You can say what you want about DC, but they sure aren't dragging this story out. Shit is happening and it's happening fast.

So, I read a theory about walked up on Martian Manhunter at the end of JLA 119:
Spoiler:
Superman from another Earth. I'm new to DC, so maybe this is one of the Supermen that was around before the original crisis? Or hell, maybe it was Bizarro. Who knows?

Based on the recommendations here, I picked up the Fallen Angel trade many months ago. But, there hasn't been a new trade to catch-up with the story.

In the new Previews, IDW is suppose to be starting a new FA series.

How hard is it going to be to jump into the new series with only the first trade as backstory?

Chew, I heard the new series will bring everyone up to speed. I forget exactly how, but it sounds like there are a lot of changes in Bette Noire, so I'm sure Peter David will find a way to make it understandable. Do a search at Newsarama...there was an interview there about a month ago.

At the same time, however, I do hope DC prints another trade.

I just bought the complete Fallen Angel series on eBay for cheap. Plenty of time to get caught up before the new series.

Too bad IDW has that blasted $3.99 cover price. But at least it'll be a little more mature and feature nudity.

35% off (or even 50% for the first issue) takes the sting away from that $4 cover price.
