Does anyone here read Captain America and get it through DCBS? I'm trying to place my order, but issue #14 doesn't show up on their system.

I had the same problem. I'm going to wait a few days and email them to add it manually.

Should I leave the content up? If so, for how long...I don't want to pay for the space forever.

Anyway, any suggestions you have would be appreciated.
I always think it's a shame whenever interviews & stuff get lost forever. If nobody is willing to take over the site, I say archive that stuff somewhere, like on Blogger (which isn't going anywhere), before pulling the plug.

I'm still in the beginning (up to the third story), but I'm spacing it out because its a fun, but dense read (lots of panels, lots of words, and the pictures are so gorgeous that I can't just skim them). So thanks to whomever it was who pointed this book out (I'm too lazy to go back and look).
That was me. Glad you're enjoying it.

As for the rest of you -- now you have two people who give Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck their highest recommendation! What are you waiting for!?! Pick up your copy today!

I picked up the Scrooge book. It was a great read, and reminded me that comics meant for kids can be enjoyed by adults.

Is there a HC coming? If so, I may wait.

Gemstone has said there is a HC coming, but they haven't announced a specific time frame.

I kind of looked at it in the same vein of a Pixar or Disney movie, sure the intended audience is kids but it works on an all ages level. Are any of the other gemstone Disney books worth checking out?

I still can't get over how great the art is.

Hey, I seconded the recommendation for Scrooge in the last thread...

Anyway, I wish Gemstone did more of these big GNs instead of the smaller, thin collections they currently have. I started collecting those but stopped after around a year and a half because I didn't like the format... I'd much rather have either a traditional, thick GN or the oversized ones that Gladstone used to put out.

Sorry, fujishig -- I forget you had seconded that recommendation.

I agree with you on format. Give me a nice thick GN or an oversized, European-style album. The 64-page anthologies they put out don't work for me, both because they're too small and because they're too much of a mixed bag. Give me 64 pages of all Don Rosa or all Carl Barks and I'll probably bite. 64 pages with a single Barks story and 5 other stories by 5 other artists (none of whom is Rosa) and I'll probably pass.

Anyone buy one of DC's black-n-white reprints? I think they're called Showcase. I'm just wondering if they're worth the $10.

Also, anyone hear if DC plans to continue reprinting old Batman stories in chronological order?

If you like the Marvel B&W reprints, I have no doubt you'll like Showcase.

500+ pages not worth $10?

I sure would like to know that as well, but given the fact it's been a freakin' long time since the first one: doesn't seem too likely.

I wouldn't give up on Batman Chronicles just yet -- the first volume has only been out since March, and as recently as this summer, DC was talking about doing more volumes as well as a set of Superman Chronicles. It's possible the project is dead, but I think it's more likely that they're simply going slow.

As for Showcase, I haven't made it to the shop in a couple of weeks, but I'm definitely picking up both volumes that have been released (and the other three that they've announced, and probably every single one they produce, because I'm a sucker for massive inexpensive reprint volumes).

I hear you on the 500+ pages being worth the money, but I guess I should've asked if these were slated to be printed again in color on the cheap, like the Batman Chronicles.

Actually I've got to say reading Green Lantern in black and white really isn't as effective as one might hope, especially in the early adventures where many of his obstacles are yellow and he has to come up with a way around it. Not quite as effective when you can't tell what is and is not yellow.

I haven't even started this yet and didn't think of that. Good point.

The first volume of the Superman Chronicles is due January 4th. Based on DC's Archives survey (link ) it looks like they're considering a Justice Society Chronicles next. I prefer this format to the Archives format, but not at this rate of releases.

Showcase Presents volumes of Justice League (December) and Green Arrow (January) are coming soon. I got both of the Showcase volumes last week, and for the most part they look very good (especially the Superman). The Green Lantern stories are hurt a little by not being in color, but the narration or thought bubbles make it pretty clear when things are yellow.

Of course, I've never read much Silver Age DC, so I'm reading many of these stories for the first time. I don't want to spring for $35+ reprints of material I'm not sure about.

I'm still torn about buying 'em in hardcover. Aren't most of these in the Masterpiece series? (I think that's what they're called). But if they're doing the Chronicles, that'll be the way I go fo shizzle.

I was going to say -- it's not like Silver Age DC was known for their unwillingness to use captions. When something is yellow, they tell you that it's yellow. In fact, with GL, often when something isn't yellow, they still tell you that it's yellow (like the time GL fought the guy with the invisible yellow forcefield, or had to deal with a yellow missile that had red lightbulbs in it to make it appear orange).

The Green Lantern, Superman, and Justice League books are reprinted in both the Archives (HC/Color) and Showcase Presents (SC/B&W) formats. The only Chronicles (SC/Color) reprints so far have been Golden Age Batman and soon Golden Age Superman. I don't think you'll see either Archives or Chronicles volumes for obscure books like Metamorpho or Jonah Hex, although both books have Showcase Presents volumes to be released this week and next month, respectively.

I love the Superman Showcase book, it's a blast. Those gimmicky '50s and '60s stories are just a hell of a lot of fun, much better than a lot of today's super-serious stretched-out storylines. I'm looking forward to the JLA and Jonah Hex volumes.

Next on my list would be
* Showcase Batman (50s-60s stuff)
* Showcase Sugar & Spike (!!)
* Showcase Swamp Thing (bet they could get all the '70s stuff in one book)
* Showcase The Atom (always loved this guy's Silver Age stories)
* Showcase Hawkman
* Showcase for some of the great anthology titles like Mystery in Space, Strange Adventures, etc...

I hope they keep doing these. They're cheap and a real blast.

It's just good to see a villain cackle maniacally again. I miss those days.

Two shipments into October and I still have 9 books from September's order that haven't shipped yet.

Are the number of late books getting worse for others as well?
