They are, so I put 4K after the titles. As for the films being worthy of the treatment, well, DELICATESSEN I sort of understand. The rest will still be cheap schlock no matter the format, I had all four on Blu-ray and enjoyed them but not enough to keep them. Your mileage will vary, of course!

Re: Severin Films - Deals and Sales Thread

As someone who first saw "Hell Of The Living Dead" as part of an all-night horror marathon at his local ( southeast Kansas ) drive-in back in the early 80's, it cracks me up that it's now being featured in the top-of-the-line technological format of the time 40 years later.

And yet ridiculously fun. I can't really defend it on any level but entrancingly "what the...?!". 88 Films' UHD release is in today's mail and will be my third (!) copy of the film.

Yeah, it's hilariously awful. I have it on a DVD with ( I think ) "Rats", & for that movie that's good enough for me. It took me years to figure out what the title was, since there's so many different "Living Dead/Dead This, Dead That" titles in the world.

no matter the format change, it can only be considered a lateral move

Totally second this. This is not a title that will be better in 4K. I get that these boutiques have a bottom line and need to keep upgrading everything to 4K to keep suckers people buying, but this one is ridiculous. Plus, you can actually get the Blue Underground Blu-ray version of the double feature mentioned above (the older Anchor Bay DVD), which is apparently still in print, for twelve bucks on Amazon, with perfectly acceptable bonus features for this film specifically.

Re: Severin Films - Deals and Sales Thread

Last year, and possibly the year before if I recall, Severin’s box sales coincided with the sets likewise being on sale at Grindhouse Video, only discounted more in virtually all cases, from small amounts to fairly large. A bunch of Severin titles are mixed into their various ongoing ‘Black Friday Month’ sales but I can’t tell how they’ll stack up against Severin’s prices this time, or how either company will compare against the previous years’ pricing. I have a sneaking suspicion they’ll be up overall, perhaps with higher MSRP’s listed, which appeared to be Severin’s trick last year. Still, it may pay to comparison shop just to be safe. Also, I don’t believe Severin offers any free shipping options now.

EDIT: Just for reference, this is a pricing comparison I updated and posted back in July of this year when Severin’s last box sale covered, mainly to show their price fluctuations in relation to Grindhouse’s BF 2023 pricing on the boxes. This doesn’t represent the current box prices at Grindhouse as they’re not consistently priced. It’s mainly just a reference to see how Severin’s upcoming prices compare.

The Severin prices are, left to right:
- Summer 2023 Sale (stroked through)
- Black Friday 2023 Box Sale
- Summer 2024 Sale (red)

If their prices are in the ballpark of the ones in July, that’ll be pretty fair (except for the shipping).

Similar to the summer sale this year, there’s some decent markdowns on Severin stuff, up to 75% off in many cases. Makes stocking up on dodgy schlock a little easier :

I bought a few titles from this section . Avoided the shclocky ones and went for the Martino tv series and Closed Circuit. Oh wait, I grabbed the Bridget Lahaie film, that one might qualify.

FEMALE EXECUTIONER, I presume? I grabbed that, too, plus a bunch of the $7.50 - $8.74 titles that weren’t in the summer sale. Still had to add a $10 title (FRANKY AND HIS PALS) and one 50% item that I’ve been hovering around for a while (NIGHT OF THE DEMON) to get me just to the free shipping threshold. No doubt that last one will be $7.50 in the next summer sale, but I’m not sure there would anything left from their deeper catalog to add by then (like I ever really needed most of this stuff to begin with! ). I’d love the Russ Meyer discs, but those are a long way off for my budget.

Finally, a sale that moved the needle for me - 15 titles. Assuming the order will be delivered just before for the 2025 summer sale

Just like last year I am skipping Severin for Black Friday, hoping for another mid season sale like they had this year though. Also some better discounts on merch!

Severin BF box sets are up. Pricing is generally the same as the previous sale (prices in red a few posts back). Only Eurocrypt 2 and Andy Milligan are $7-10 higher; the rest are consistent with last time.

Am I correct in assuming you're being tongue-in-cheek here, in that it took only three weeks? As in, you actually expected it to take longer?

I always marvel if I can get my Vinegar Syndrome BF stuff before X-mas break.

Re: Severin Films - Deals and Sales Thread

Either you got in early in the queue or they had a lot less orders this year. I know I skipped Severin this year, especially after stocking up during their mid-year sale that I think had better prices than BF?

I only ordered from the deep 75% clearance section but it was about the same . They just rotated different titles into the 75% off section. And if they are going to deep discount select single titles like that on a yearly basis I can wait it out.
