Re: Severin Films - Deals and Sales Thread

At one point, my Severin order was scheduled to arrive Monday, but there have been no tracking updates in 2 days. I guess it has been caught up in the holiday shipping vortex. I impulsively ordered a poster during the Vinegar Syndrome sale, and that package also hasn't been heard from in a couple days.

Severin’s Summer Sale runs from 12:01am EST Friday 07/25 through 12:01am PST Tuesday 07/29. So far they’ve announced 4K’s (and bundles) for BASKIN and KILL LIST.

There will also be a 24-hour 50% boxed set sale on Saturday that now includes the CLONES OF BRUCE box (which has the two-film bonus disc exclusive to their site).

Here’s a couple of screencaps from their Insta showing the titles on sale for the first time, and the box set promo:

Re: Severin Films - Deals and Sales Thread

Cut/pasting this from Severin’s email regarding the new debuts this weekend, so hopefully the pics show up. If not, try the site.

KILL LIST

The award-winning 2011 breakthrough film from writer/director Ben Wheatley (A FIELD IN ENGLAND, IN THE EARTH) has been called “dark and disturbing” (Empire), “creepy and very funny” (Austin Chronicle) and “furious, shockingly violent and sensational” (Time Out London). It will now blow you away like never before in UHD for the first time ever: When an on-edge family man and unemployed contract killer (Neil Maskell of Hijack and BULL) accepts a new assignment of 3 separate targets, the list will drag him to the edge of madness and plunge him into the depths of Hell. Michael Smiley (THE LOBSTER, CENSOR) and MyAnna Buring(THE DESCENT) co-star in the mindblower that “will leave you stunned, breathless and in need of a stiff drink” (Screen Anarchy), scanned in 4K from the 35mm digital intermediate negative with over 6 hours of new & archival Special Features.

THE SHARK HUNTER

The other shark movie from legendary action director Enzo G. Castellari (GREAT WHITE, THE INGLORIOUS BASTARDS) brings him together with his STREET LAW and KEOMA star Franco Nero – along with a screenplay co-written by Tito Carpi (LAST CANNIBAL WORLD), insane underwater stunts by Ramón Bravo (ZOMBIE) and an outstanding score by Guido & Maurizio De Angelis (SLAVE OF THE CANNIBAL GOD) – for a high-speed, double-barreled, shark-punching blast: In a Mexican seaside village, a reclusive fisherman (Nero) with a haunted past battles cold-blooded treasure hunters to retrieve $100 million from an underwater grotto infested with killer sharks. Werner Pochath (COP GAME), Jorge Luke (TREASURE OF THE AMAZON), Eduardo Fajardo (DJANGO) and Enzo himself co-star in this “gritty action-adventure that roars to life with weird audacity” (Oh, The Horror!), now scanned in 4K from the only surviving film elements, plus a Bonus Soundtrack CD and Special Features that include the first-ever on-camera reunion/reminiscence with Castellari and Nero.

NIGHT OF THE SHARKS

Three-time Golden Globe nominee Treat Williams of HAIR and PRINCE OF THE CITY fame took the Italian Sharksploitation plunge in this “insane and weirdly good-natured” (Oh, The Horror!) action thriller, now officially licensed on North American disc for the first time ever: Life in a quiet Mexican fishing village is ripped to pieces when a laidback guide (Williams) and his business partner (Blaxploitation legend Antonio Fargas) become entangled with international assassins, $2 million in diamonds and a local shark named Cyclops with an insatiable hunger for foolish divers. John Steiner (CALIGULA), Janet Agren (EATEN ALIVE) and Christopher Connelly (RAIDERS OF ATLANTIS) in his final film role co-star in this “unique and fun” (DTV Connoisseur) obscurity directed by Tonino Ricci (CAVE OF THE SHARKS) from a screenplay by Tito Carpi (TENTACLES) with jaw-dropping man vs. shark stunts by Ramón Bravo (ZOMBIE) and a deliriously ‘80s synth score by Stelvio Cipriani (THE GREAT ALLIGATOR), now scanned in 4K from the original camera negative and featuring a Bonus Soundtrack CD.

But when these unorthodox procedures trigger dozens of tragedies, she’ll risk her own life to expose decades of malpractice and murder. Re: Severin Films - Deals and Sales Thread

I had to get that Baskin 4K release. Easily one of the best horror movies in recent years.

Note that if you never got the 4K release of The Changeling, they show it still available with the slipcover for 50% off. Just make sure you keep scrolling past the listing that shows on sale with a damaged slipcover (which is strangely the same price).

Much like SterlingBen, I go into the Severin sales assuming there won’t be much for me this time because I’ve already purchased vast swaths of their catalog in previous sales, most often at the 50% off rate. However, now that they’ve done 75% off in the last three or four big sales, it’s hard not to grab stuff. As I’ve mentioned previously in Severin threads, I tend to keep very little of their stuff. I do enjoy watching the kind of often unmitigated schlock they release, but once in most cases is more than enough (especially a lot of the Italian genre and/or Franco junk). Thankfully resale values up here are pretty hefty so the 75% discount is kind of a sweet spot.

I had three new (or new-ish) releases in my cart, but ultimately passed on one of them, the DR. WHO Blu-ray set with slipcase because it dawned on me that both of those are guaranteed to be 75% off in maybe a year or two. So I opted for the empty slipcase for now, and will fill it later.

I should’ve waited on the other two pricier titles, too, but I wanted the site-exclusive 2-disc set of THE PICKUP. I also (ahem) got HARD WOOD but then realized I could’ve saved a few bucks getting in one of the video stores here that was having a 15% off anniversary sale this past Saturday. Live and learn.

Everything else, though, was from the 75% category, and I think it’s reasonably safe to assume that anything currently priced higher will end up there eventually. In fact, several titles that I got in the previous 75% sales were only 50% this time around, so it’s just a matter of waiting them out if you really want to save. I also grabbed a bunch of these titles when Severin was blowing out their remaining DVD stock for $3 a pop, and some of those have provided decent returns when I’ve sold them onwards.

Hard Wood: The Adult Features of Ed Wood [3-Disc Blu-ray] × 1

The Pick-Up [2-Disc Exclusive Blu-ray] [Limited to 2,000] × 1
