The frustrating thing for me is that I really want it, but I've heard so many complaints about unplayable discs. (And I struggled with one of the discs in the final season's UHD set, even after getting a replacement, also because of scratches when the discs were stacked on these hard hubs.) Supposedly the UK/EU collection doesn't use those stupid hubs, but it's a lot more expensive.

Ugh, are they made incorrectly or something? If I bought something like that it would be for a future rewatch and I'd hate to get to disk 57 like years later only to find out it doesn't work.

The international releases have those little swinging door thingies with one disc per hub, but the American release stacks multiple discs on those tall, super-rigid center hubs instead. During packaging, these discs have a tendency to get scratched - and scratched badly. I've gone through two copies of Game of Thrones S8 on UHD BD, and both copies of disc 2 had deep gouges in 'em that screwed up playback. My first edition had a couple minutes of unplayable material; I think we got that down to 30 seconds or something on the replacement, on a different episode...or at least a different part of the same episode. I've seen a bunch of similar complaints about the complete series set. There are 33 discs (I think?), so there's a lot of room for things to go wrong.

Stacking that many discs was always a problem in the DVD era as well.

Silent Night, Deadly Night 3-5 from the Vestron Video collection is only $11.99. They are matching Best Buy.

It's super cheap for a special edition BD set with 3 movies. But, I have heard the movies aren't very good. But, I splurged. I did get it from Best Buy, but noticed that Amazon matched. Cheesy 80s horror for cheap sounds good. I hope they are not super terrible. The 1st movie IMO was super overrated. I don't think I saw the 2nd.

Also, Highlander 4K is only $12.49.

Amazon, , GRUV, and Walmart are matching Best Buy's Casablanca 4K for $16.99. Save an additional 20% at GRUV if you can get coupon to work.

Damn, so tempting. My only issue with splurging is that ALL of these are from newer 4K restorations AND the strategy of Paramount to follow up with 4K releases that will drive down the value of these PP releases. 48 Hrs (and its sequel), Days of Thunder are some examples (and DoT 4K is just $14.96)

EDIT: Thanks cinefan. Caved and got:
Ragtime
Nashville (will sell the sealed Criterion to recoup costs)
Elizabethtown
A Place in the Sun
The Sheikh
Last Train from Gun Hill (wanted the DC as I had the Imprint release of the same 6K restoration)

I picked up Ragtime and Breakdown on the previous go-round (by the way, the digital codes for both redeemed in 4K at iTunes). I went for Nashville this time, since it sold out before I snagged it in the last sale and I currently only have the DVD from 2000. I currently have Harold and Maude in my cart but am hesitating because I recall the reviews for the transfer were not great; on the other hand I do love the film and never did get the OOP Criterion disc.

To be fair, Days of Thunder came out in UHD and got the Paramount Presents Blu-ray treatment simultaneously. Both came out on the same day in May 2020.

Almost Famous also hit UHD and BD alongside one another, although the initial UHD release was a somewhat limited steelbook, and a standard release wouldn’t follow for another 7 months or something like that.

True that. ‘Fatal Attraction’ 4K was another that followed the standard release. Feel it in my gut that ‘Vanilla Sky’ and ‘Ghost’ will see the light of 4K day. Just don’t understand the decision making behind these PP and 4K lines

Conveniently made for the double-dippers.

Got Nashville which sold out before I could buy it last time.

Note that there are both repeat titles from the last sale and new to this sale titles. It is worth checking the link to the sale.

Many of them will on Itunes, but I don't think all will. I'm trying to remember from the 1st sale batch, but i think I checked them one by one to see which items had Itune 4K available and which didn't (4 of the 8 digitals had 4K, the others didn't). They aren't MA and i use VUDU for most viewing, but but if Apple gives a 4K I go that way

I've bough Almost Famous 3 times (I love it): DVD, extended DVD & blu. And as much as I like it, I'm done.

Same. I got the Blu-ray release and it looks good to me. A 4K release would have to REALLY impress me and from observation of it, I'm not sure it really can be that much better due to the film be purposely created to have that 70's look, as well as coming from a 35mm print.

It's matching Target's 20% off sale, which ends tonight. So if interested, don't delay.
