Re: Amazon: Blu-ray discounts and deals mega-thread

Amazon's got a 'Get 3 for the price of 2' offer going on and as usual, the filters are designed to frustrate - search 'bluray' and you find books in the search result, search '4k' and you find vinyl in the search results. And the abominable 'see more' button at the bottom only brings up a bunch of repeated listings from the list above it and so on. But I was able to filter out some for a good deal - $19.98 + tax for the 3 below:
  • Ambulance 4K
  • Dirty Dancing 4K
  • Last Night At SoHo 4K

I didn't realize that Amazon sold used stuff. I thought it was always 3rd party sellers.

Picked up Femme Fatale since it was almost 50% off and I had a $5 credit on Amazon.

Some of the other Shout Titles also qualified for the buy 2 get 1 sale, like Twins, Hackers etc.

I believe the Amazon Warehouse items are just customer returns.

Star Trek The Motion Picture Director’s Cut Complete Adventure - $48.99
Amazon Amazon

Edit: scratch that. Went back up.

Jurassic World 6-pack (Blu/DVD) was briefly $29.99, but that went back up too.

Guess they might be worth watching. 🙂

Well, now I feel stupid for paying so much for it when it came out.

Edit: Amazon just completed flipping everything over from Black Friday deals to Cyber Monday deals, and this was a Black Friday deal, so it is now dead.

Even though the price went back up right after I posted that (edited my post above), I was reminded of all the folks here and elsewhere that went nuts trying to get a copy at twice the price as if it was going OOP soon or something. Struck me as odd at the time that it would be limited in any way, but the constant (seeming) sell-outs at many online retailers undoubtedly drove people to pay more than they needed to. Something tells me it will be closer to $50 more regularly soon enough.

It did say ‘Black Friday’ deal on the listing when I noticed it drop a few minutes ago, but it definitely wasn’t $48.99 throughout the day unless it was on-and-off like some of the other deals reported here. I wasn’t watching it religiously, but it is in the ‘saved for later’ section of my cart, and it was $70-ish most times I scrolled past it.

To be fair, there were reasons why people thought that. One of the producers of the Director's Edition stated pretty definitively that it was Limited Edition that would sell-out in preorder. That's why everyone panic-bought.

So, either they made more than he thought, they sold less than he thought, they held some back for Black Friday, or they produced more. It was out of stock for a couple months on Amazon until just a week or two ago. But I think it was still pretty readily available at most retailers most of the time. So, not as limited as we'd been lead to believe.

Not too long before the Star Trek Motion Picture set came out there was the Ghostbusters set that did sell out never to come back again. That could have played into the FOMO for getting this set before it was gone. It was also advertised as a limited run that did become unavailable for a time.

Good points. I suspect that “not as limited as we thought” is becoming a common tactic these days, or at least “not as likely to sell out as we’re telling you”, especially with certain boutique labels and their efforts to convince us to shell out full price on day one for some fancy new ‘limited’ edition of a film we never knew had a rabid, massive cult following — because it probably didn’t and the label’s marketing department needed to create the perception of one to move units. The Star Trek set seems a bit more egregious coming from a major studio (or maybe not!), but I suppose if the set truly does go OOP in due time, or at least never drops below $50 again, then maybe there’s still some truth to how many they produced.

This order just arrived today, and it appears that the person that did the return defrauded Amazon by replacing the a7 III with a much older original a7 with a manufacture date of 2013. The rest of the packaging was intact and included the a7 III battery which doesn't even fit in the camera he put in there. All Amazon will do is allow me to return it, so hopefully when they inspect my return, they don't invalidate the return because I'm sending back the wrong model, and also that they don't turn around and try selling it again. What a hassle.

That stinks, I hope all of that works out for you. I'm not super into cameras but I know people who are love this stuff and hopefully you not only get a refund they find a way to not do business with that person again.

That 'person' is Amazon, themselves.

That's why I was surprised when Perry mentioned he was getting a used item, and Amazon was the seller.

Perry, if they fight you on the return, I'm sure your CC company would help you out.

Re: Amazon: Blu-ray discounts and deals mega-thread

As long as he clearly indicated what happened and is wrong on the return information I doubt he'll have any trouble. I had something similar happen with a limited edition video game collectible figure. There was a specific figure that had a LE individual release but was also released in a special collection with 4 other figures. Amazon had the collection for 1/3 the price of the individual figure so I jumped on it (especially when I could have sold the 4 I didn't need/want and get my money back making the LE free). When it arrived, the LE collectible figure had been replaced with the standard edition (worth much, much less) figure (still a decent price but I had all 5 already). Someone had purchased the set with the LE, swapped the LE out for the standard edition, and returned it to Amazon. I worried about the return but had no trouble with it and it never showed back up for sale from Amazon (I checked for a couple of months following the return).
