While I don't think the name calling is necessary, I think people should be able to discuss and have their own opinions on the changes. Most people around here (including myself) will continue to use the services they offer because in the end it's worth to pay a little more per year than deal with the hassle of shopping in stores. I don't have Netflix, so I actually use their streaming service. And I still don't have to pay sales tax. So for me, it's really still worth it.

Awesome. You can also schedule delivery for 2015...I wonder if you can lock in TWO years at the current rate?

EDIT: You can't...Amazon only lets you schedule up to one year out. :(

Make the second year for your wife or other family member.

Because a lot of people dropped one service for another. I have zero interest in discs coming to my house but like the Streaming aspects (month to month, when I want to use it).

Thank you for mentioning that; shipping costs certainly are relevant to whether or not BDs can be purchased as "bargains", however one defines that term.

As for the kvetching about sales tax collection by Amazon in some states, most states that have a sales tax require residents to pay it on internet purchases, even if it isn't collected by the on-line merchant. In my state it is called a "use tax" and it is due by April 15 of the following year like the income tax (and, yes, I pay it each year). If your state has such a provision for internet purchases and you don't pay it, you are cheating on your taxes.

If you'd like to complain about no longer being able to cheat on your taxes (or crow about it if you still are able to do so) the appropriate thread to do so is here:
Amazon sales tax discussion

Isn't it more likely that the Prime customers are using it to such an extent that the price needs to go up to cover costs..? I know that I - like others - have been getting triple my money's worth, so this additional $20 is fine by me. I'd prefer it stay cheaper, but it seems worth it - even without the streaming video, which is surely also worth $100 a year, despite the flaws and changeability of content.

Exactly!

I dropped the physical disk part, because the delays were getting longer and longer. You can argue that that's exactly what they wanted to happen, but it made my bill cheaper. Now when they raise that price...

It's a 25% price increase, that's pretty significant... I realize it's only 20 bucks and I actually don't mind paying it, but I can understand why there's a minor uproar about it. And again, if you could split out streaming and keep the same price, I'm sure a lot of people would do that, but that's not what amazon wants.

Preorder for Dragonball Z season 4 on blu is down to 24.99, making it much closer to the first three season's current sales prices.

It's a bump, but it comes down to something easy: either use it or don't.
The complaining/lawsuit talk is sort of comical.

Well, not until you break it down to a per month cost. It's nothing, but folks get pissed, because they're charged right then and there as opposed to a per month basis. I pay way more than that on my Netflix and gym memberships. This $20 increase is small fries.

You still can't do it...you can only schedule as far out as a year from today. My first "gift" subscription will still be running then.

Like I said, it's still a 25% increase. At what price does it not become small fries, $40? $80? But I guess it shows that Amazon underestimated how much they could charge loyalists... :)

Like I said, not a big deal to me but I can see why it is to others (though lawsuits are obviously not justified).

I already dropped them once since they insist on using crappy services like Ontrac but decided to give them a second chance. They don't use Ontrac as much now, but the $20 hike is probably going to mean the end of prime for me.

And I broke down the math.

I'm a loyalist to a certain degree, yes. And at $8.25 (my lunch today was twice that much) per month is absolutely a great deal that folks (if they weren't so fucking knee-jerk reactionary) should see that $8.25 is nothing to complain about.

Well, some people over extend themselves with their cash and can't find a way to budget $8.25 a month, which I don't get - yet they have enough to buy stupid shit. All they would have to do is cut out HALF a Blu-ray purchase per month and they'd be able to afford PRIME at the new rate. Not even an entire Blu-ray disc!!!!!!!!!

See how it easy it is?!

/rant

P.S. As far as lunch went - I stopped buying Blu-rays (like I used to), so now I get to eat very well. No fast food, and all made with natural ingredients. It was some good eats!

I wouldn't mind the extra $ if they were improving their service somehow. For me their service has consistently gotten worse since I first started Prime years ago. For a while they were using Ontrac (AKA: We pretend that we tried to deliver the package so Amazon doesn't get mad when really we never even drove by your place), Fedex Smartpost (Seriously, for 2 day shipping) and USPS (Which is hit or miss with the 2 day shipping) for most of my packages. Plus the new "Add on Item" feature and the general terribleness with their packaging lately (If it's metal it's coming dented in a bubble mailer. If it's something that needs little protection it packaged like they are transporting Faberge Eggs). Plus I get to pay $20 more a year. Sign me up:)

I understand these are probably not everyones problems. I think Ontrac is a West Coast thing and I could just have terrible luck with packaging. And yes, I know they added some neat features like streaming and library book checkouts for kindle, but they really aren't services I need.

There was a brief time where I would get stuff delivered by ONTRAC but it all got here on time. The problem was that they never knocked on the door. It's not a problem with the service itself, because it arrived on time. The delivery person just had to fucking knock on the door.

More often than not I'm getting stuff from UPS and USPS and even when it ships via UPS 2-Day it gets handed off to the USPS for completion. Don't get stuff from FED EX all that often.

My biggest value is their streaming service, because they have shit that Netlfix doesn't.

 I've had it for years and I have ALWAYS gotten shipments in the 2 BD, and a lot of times the next BD. One day I ordered something in the morning and it was waiting for me at home that afternoon. Kinda creeped me out and I looked around to see if anyone was hiding in the bushes

I squeaked in the deadline by 3 days (April 14th renewal) so I'm at $79 this year. I order so much from Amazon (including the bars I use for my endurance training and a lot of sports stuff) that even at $100 it's worth it. Also I get to read the one prime book a month so even at $100 that's a little over $8 a book. I never use the streaming.
